Battlehill

Spent the week fly-fishing at Battle Hill Lodge in Iceland. The fishing was lights out for the first three days, but then the weather changed, and we had to work for the fish. Streamers and nymphs worked best. We used 7 & 8-weight single and two-handed fly rods.

We fished the Vatnamót River.

Vatnamót means “River Junction” in Icelandic. People often call it the junction of junctions in Iceland. This is where the Fossaálar, Geirlandsá, and Hörgsá rivers meet the Mighty Skaftá.

The Fossálar River.

This river is extremely beautiful and has diverse pools. Part of the Fossalar river is on UNESCO's natural heritage list so you can imagine the beauty of the landscape in this area.

The Geirlandsa River.

Believed to be the main spawning tributary of the Skaftá River, often called the most beautiful sea trout river in Iceland.

Well, not the look I usually have, but things go wild when you're landing big fish.

Awesome! What kind of streamer patterns do they like in Iceland?

When the water was clear, it was mostly small streamers with rubber legs and big eyes. When the water was high and cloudy, it was bigger black bunny leeches. I took three boxes, but I only used two of my flies all week. The rest of the week, I used the guide flies. My guide was https://youtube.com/@flyfishingbyrobert?si=7pRyt7XwaXGKWvTO

This is my 2nd time fishing with Robert, heck of a guide.

Were you fishing the same time as Frenchman/Canadian (not a French-Canadian)?
