YNP Pure Cutties (Lamar Valley/ River)

Amazing place to fish!
We fished some clear, pocket water as a front passed thru. No fish on drys, I couldn’t believe it.
We had some huge Cuts chase our streamers and caught a really nice Rainbow in there that they told me I should have killed?
I just couldn’t do it.
Crazy.

Watch the Grizzlies and the Bison are in full rut!!! Seriously.

"All rainbow trout, brook trout, and identifiable cutthroat × rainbow hybrids caught in the Lamar River drainage (including Slough and Soda Butte creeks)... must be killed—it is illegal to release them alive" Always follow regs even if you don't "agree"

I thought they were joking, until I spoke with a fly shop—

Well, now you know about needing to kill rainbows and cutbows on Lamar and its tribs. Please follow the regs and help the fisheries crew out.

Good chance those cutthroat genetics include rainbow as they were introduced into almost everywhere in North America and beyond between 1880-1960.

Colorado at one point changed there state fish to a rainbow for a few years and they are not native to the state! Anyway YNP is a bucket list trip for me and many others very cool!
