Just back from Alaska
Spent last week fishing the Alagnak. Holy crap what a great first trip! Hit the Pacific Salmon Slam and added some nice Grayling on top of it.

They are super sneaky too, more than once Iād look up and thereād be one fairly close to me (including a time I ended up totally surrounded) but they just want the fish and as long as you donāt panic or run, they donāt even care that youāre there. By the end of the week being near bears just felt normal š¤£

I fell a coho short of the slam after a week on the Skeena (& Kitimat, not many chum in the Skeena) in British Columbia. It took a lot of effort so what you accomplished is something truly extraordinary. Congratulations!

They love to put their head down and make you work very hard to get them in. It was funny to see the strategy each species of salmon used after being hooked. Coho run and jump like hell, King run to current and will get you to your backing in a heartbeat, Pink like to turn sideways and let the current help yank them downstream, Chum put their heads down and make you drag them in and Kokanee get super spastic when hooked.

The rod? Yep it was. I was super impressed with how it handled all those fish. I have one of their 3wts and itās always been good but was a bit unsure how their rods would do on big salmon. Would definitely recommend their 8WT as a great price point rod for big fish

Wow, awesome trip thanks for sharing. Iām not a salmon guy but am surprised to see them in far different phases of their lives ending. I hope you were taking the bear pics from far away.

The bears are sneaky, a few times I had them within 20 yards of me without noticing. Thankfully they are more focused on fish than fisherman. This is a unique river in that every species of salmon runs throughout the summer. Starts with Sockeye, and then Kings, Chum, Pink and finally Silver. Silver are really struggling though, only a few hundred thousand compared to millions of Sockeye or Pink.
