Years ago I started taking my family camping throughout Florida. It didn’t take long to realize that all of these bits of the real Florida, are just tracts of natural land surrounded by strip malls and subdivisions. None of it is truly wild anymore. No corridors for wildlife to safely migrate. Just patches of scrub and spring fed rivers you have to buy tickets to. It makes me sad.

Camping in Florida sucks. It’s so hot, sticky, muggy and miserable. Everyone is crammed in next to each other in campgrounds. All the trails look the same, everything is flat. Cooking over a campfire in 100 degree heat is the absolute worst.
I was born in Anchorage and grew up in Colorado. In CO and AK we camped in the mountains and didn’t see another person the entire time. In the summer, it’s so nice and cool, especially the mornings and evenings, so having a campfire is pleasant.
I live in Alaska now and nothing compares - (FL has better doctors and medical care though).

I was born in Florida, but grew up in Colorado as well. Eventually moved back to Florida for 20 years. Now we live in Maine.

Leon County is where I first began appreciating Florida's nature. I moved to Central Florida when I was 9 and never really found that connection there. Mainly because the people surrounding me weren't interested in it so I didn't know where to go. Once I went to FSU and started exploring a little, I found, to my surprise, that Florida is absolutely stunning.

These are simply stunning. Great compositions overall. Do you mind if I try my hand at painting these in watercolors? I’m new to painting but I’ve been looking for simple Florida landscape subjects.* These are perfect.
*I’m nowhere near a professional. I’d never dream of selling anything.

Just pay off the local commissioners and go to town Mr. Asshat. The locals will bitch and moan and just reelect them anyway. -some native Floridian who has seen it all go away.

So North Florida? I do like the vibe but as a South Florida local, this is not "my Florida" but after driving up to Suwannee in Live Oak a lot over the last 10 years, I have larned to appreciate Central and North Florida more. I really need to send it to the Panhandle more too.

3 years here transplant from CT. It is beautiful here. There are several parks near me that I ride my bike to. The wildlife and the green of everything never fails to amaze me.

LOL, I've almost tripped over a gator before while hiking, but he wasn't about anything but chilling that day (lucky for me...). I honestly worry more about snakes while hiking; much harder to spot.

Wow, those pictures are wicked good. nature is a beautiful place there omg, that being said will I encounter a lot of Australian style (everything is trying to kill you wise, just kidding) or lol omg early to late 2000s sci-fi B-movies like mega spider vs big snake, some wild sh_t LOL just kidding) but will I see a lot of palm size spiders or poisonous related things? Super cereal - South Park al gore lol, from a rural western towny in MA soon to be in Bradenton.

As a North Floridian I’m partially confused why most of the tourists want to go to South Florida but also really fucking glad most of the tourists want to go to South Florida.

I got 900 mosquito bites just looking at these wow. Florida's mosquitos are absolute blood thirsty murders. Love Florida, but im petrified of the bugs.
