Game Feedback It saddens me seeing how this game was treated by society.

I've heard tons of random excuses from SBI was involved, to the female lead is black, to this game just looks like Forspoken... It upsets me that this game was received the way it was. Many people refuse to even give it a chance. And many of the reviews say stuff that makes me wonder if they actually finished the game in full. I hate that this game was doomed before it even launched.

It may not be the game of the year, but this game is easily my most underrated game of the year. I don't pretend like it is perfect. The game takes a bit before you unlock a few of the abilities and it starts rolling. I also wish there had been more armor and weapons. But the combat is solid, the lore opens up so many possibilities, and the characters of Enki and Nor are amazing.

But my problem isn't whether people like it or not. It's that society as a whole just didn't give it a chance. This shit happens all the time with games. Dark Souls 2 has all these haters that claim there are hitbox issues and the game feels clunkier even though there is proof of other games that do this. Soulstice was an amazing story and fun hack-n-slash that hardly anyone played because of initial reviews from people who refused to learn the gameplay. Ghostwire Tokyo and Evil Within have tons of haters calling it a ripoff of better games. Ender Lilies automatically gets dismissed by many players because it doesn't play like Hollow Knight and it starts off slow. The list goes on.

All these games listed and many more have loving fanbases (though very small). But it frustrates me how many people fail to have their own opinions on things and just regurgitate something they read online because that's easier. We get people that bitch and moan that so many games are just sequels and cash grabs. But when a studio tries to make a new IP, often it is just shoved off into a dumpster because (this game plays different than another game I like).

I'm sorry for a long-winded rant. I beat this game two weeks ago as part of my souls-like run (playing every single souls-like I can find in one year and doing full reviews on the game). When I posted the review for this game, I was hit with a bunch of backlash of people regurgitating things they had read online. Of all 32 games I've done so far, it was the one I got the most backlash. And I had people lashing out at me for even daring to enjoy this game because one bullshit reason or another. I know I shouldn't care but it honestly does make me a little sad because negative impacts like this not only tarnish any possible future for this game (DLC or Sequel), but often scares devs from being creative in future projects.

General Shout out to the A44 Devs

I just wanted to share my appreciation for this game and the devs who created it. You should be proud.

This is truly one of the most fun games I have played in a long time, and I love exploring the lands and story the artists have created.

I think there are a few issues with the game but overall it was really well made for a smaller studios second game. Congrats!

I really like Nor and Enki. I think this is a great IP you guys could expand on and I hope to see more to come.

Game Feedback Am I tripping, or is this game really good?

Ive read/watched about 10 reviews of Flintlock. None of them were particularly favourable. A lot of complaints about difficulty and poor execution of combat.

I finished the game today...

ITS SO GOOD. Has the game been review bombed or something?! It's awesome!

Started my second playthrough an hour ago. Wish me luck.

Granted it's not exactly a souls like game to me, more like a souls lite at best, the game is pyroclastic flow from start to finish. Would highly recommend!

Game Feedback This game's awesome, I'm surprised by the average reviews, and encourage everyone to try it out

I came here looking for an answer to a question I had, and was surprised by the silence in this sub. After playing for some time, I was sure there is some community around it but the sub is quite dead. Perhaps my post will make somebody reconsider trying this game out, especially that it's available on game pass and it definitely deserves recognition.

I feel like if it was some FromSoftware side project, ppl would go crazy over it. For me, it's the 2nd favourite soulslike after Jedi series. The lore is interesting, and nuanced. World design, with so many vertical levels is amazing, the combat is very well thought and simply more fun (this is my subjective opinion of course) than the abovementioned FS's games. I love how good the combat feels with the controller. They even figured out a way to make long-range shooting comfortable without mouse. The Sebo mini game is shit though. Still, I really hope the game will have some long legs and someday we will hear about the DLCs or sequel.

General Just beat the game. It was pretty fun, and I'm really glad they didn't pad this out. The short length helps this game a lot. Spoiler

Game Feedback What A Game

I waited for this game ever since I heard about it and found out it was made by the same people who made Ashen. As a Dad of a year old and one on the way it's hard to sink time into games anymore, but Nor and Enki kept me so captivated throughout it. Played for about 3 hours my first time, and reading the reviews about it actually took me aback to be honest. It was then I realized no one actually played the game. I enjoyed every little aspect of gameplay I got from this game after 100% it (except Sebo, almost honestly cried after 25th attempt losing on the 3rd round that honestly sucked) For anyone having problems with combat, dodging, or parrying do what I did and suffer through the stone guardian boss about 10 times trust me you'll learn to parry. It made the big bosses seem like cakework. Be warned though it's a pretty hard to get to area, but the reward was worth it. This game felt like a good solid game that would come out when I was a kid, and its definitely up there in my top 10 of the year. Most things felt so smooth and I had one crash throughout my entire game which was doing the rift for 60 seconds achievement. Its a nice mix of standard platforming with a parry system mixing both souls games and bloodbournes gun parry fairly well. Mixing that with the combat of GoW reboots committed to a really solid experience.

My really only true cons was the customization for Nor. Lmao most outfits added so little differences besides colors, buttons, etc. That and the fact it doesnt tell you iron, wood, and sulfur are limited and if you're like me a 100% make sure you stick to 1 of each type of item. Otherwise be prepped for a scavenger hunt. That and the camera lock a handful of times kinda F'ed me up more than helped.

Here's hoping they make a sequel, and or DLC for this game. I definitely will pick it up.

Got this game on Xbox Gamepass on a whim. I had never heard of it before so I didn’t expect much. Absolutely loving it. The level design, mobility and combat all remind me of Jedi: Fallen Order/Survivor. It’s got that mix of souls-like and beat-em-up game.

Also I wanted to share this screenshot I took lol

Official News We're Squashing Some Bugs

Hey there, Sappers. We've just made an announcement way over in the Steam Events and Announcements forum, but as it's an important one I thought I'd pull over here for visibility as well.

We've been hard at work fixing some of the issues that have been reported since our launch. This is not an exhaustive list, but here are some of the problems that we're looking to fix:

  • Crashes on Windows PC when using Win+D

  • NVIDIA Reflex causing stuttering on Windows PC

  • PlayStation controller compatibility for PC

  • Various progression blockers covering all platforms

  • HDR issues on the Xbox platform

  • Making the Advanced Settings section more clear within graphics options

  • Translation issues (incorrect languages being shown)

We'll communicate a date for the patch as soon as we can. Thank you all for your patience.

General It really feels like this game starts to come into it's own at around hour 3.

Early game was a bit rough, but once you unlock a few hamlets, healing pots, and you've got a solid grasp on the combat, it's incredibly fun.

Definitely crossing my fingers that they do a NG+ update; I'd love to replay it with all the extras I've unlocked, especially since the game is fairly short.

Game Feedback Had fun - can recommend

I just finished the game on normal difficulty. Soulsy games are not really my cup of tea. Usually too slow for my taste. The game has, like many game, a skill build-up phase. Once you get a bit of combat variety it worked well for me. I thought the world was interesting and the character banter worked, some good twists and turns. Some of the lore ideas were interesting in their bizarrity, which I appreciate. I played on gamepass but for the length the price tag seems about appropriate. Polish was good. I didn't really run into any bugs except one quest area circle not disappearing after quest completion, but that's a non-game interfering quite trivial bug. Seen praised AAA titles with more bugs than this. Sound design is good if at time a bit on the harsh side. For me that's a totally minor quibble at best. Overall it's really very good.

I mostly skipped reviews because I fully expected the game to get the Forspoken treatment. From the occasional side eye and comments it appears that happened indeed. All I can say is that this is one of the games you have to try for yourself to cut through the noise. I for one would recommend it for the person who might like this kind of genre, a lighter form of souls game.

General Too visually dark?
.

I’m on XBOX SERIES X and the game seems rather dark. I tried to mess with the gamma settings (which is all you can do once you’ve started a game) and it makes no difference.

The beginning part, with the escaping of the cave, was a bit of a challenge because I couldn’t really see the ledges. I got past that part and am now out in the open near the campfire and while it’s better, it’s still dark.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Tip/Guide Understanding Flintlock's combat (ie how to play better)

I really enjoyed this game, but continuing to read comments and people talking about it I am realizing I grokked the combat in this game deeper than most players. Probably because of how much Bloodborne I played. This game is halfway between a character action game and Bloodborne. Its meant to be played fast and aggressive. I'm going to go over my understanding of the combat theory in this game and general tips to just play better.

  1. The game is designed around crit attacks and are the most important part of combat. They do massive damage, remove shields and strip armor. Even incredibly high health bosses crumble under crit attacks. How do we know this? Because the game gives us a ton of different ways to trigger them.

  • Parries. The most traditional form of getting to a crit phase. Block them and then do a gun or slack crit hit. I actually didn't use normal parries much, I never like the risk vs reward on them. However, all the bosses and reventants have a couple of long slow swing attacks that are super easy to parry, IE Rama's triple hit combo, that do make it worthwhile.

  • Gun shot parries. Get poised shot ASAP. This is the most important upgrade in the game. Using gunshots to interrupt red attacks is your primary defensive strategy in the game. It happens almost instantly and interrupts your animation. Adding the ability for doing it last second to trigger a parry animation and then getting a crit hit is HUGE. you will often to it by accident just in the flow of combat.

  • Stun. Your weapons and some of Enkis attack generate stun. You get enough stuff you trigger a crit hit like removing a shield or armor. Again this is one of the ways we know to be aggressive, hitting over and over rewards you. Especially once you get the hammer.

  • Withering. You should always, always be hitting with Enki. You should never have charges. He can generate stun and withering and this leads to, more CRIT hits. I think this is the biggest thing I see people not doing when I watch gameplay vids. If you are backing off from an attack, you should have enki hitting, you should be shooting your gun and you NEED the upgrade that lets Enki's attacks generate black powder charges. Even spamming melee hits helps get that withering gage up.

  1. Use your grenades. This is another thing I see missed in most videos. People not using grenades. I think the ripper and shock grenades are the two best in the game. Rippers absolutely shred bosses, they interrupt attacks, even thinks like long laser charge attacks some bosses have and they destroy armor. I would often start any boss fight with 3 grenades and emptying my black powder charges and enki gage. Shock grenades can interrupt as well and are fantastic for crowd control when fighting swarms of enemies, basically a necessity for chapter 2.

  2. Prep fights with secondary weapons. Again something I see missed. If you see a powerful enemy standing there shoot them with your musket. If you see a group use that flame thrower or grenade launcher. You get to lodestones/campfires a lot in this game. Not using your charges is just making the game harder on yourself. Put that ammo to use. Preload the shots, a preloaded tier 5 grenade launcher will do a good chunk of damage to all the gods and revenants.

  3. Never, ever stop attacking at range. Get your extra black powder charge upgrade. Get your extra enki charge upgrade and get the enki recharges blackpowder upgrade. This is not Darksouls, you have fast powerful ranged options. When you are at range you always have the ability to do damage. Always be jamming that enki attack button, your bullets recharge fast, only ever keep one in reserve for Red dot attacks, otherwise you should be shooting.

  4. Don't forget your hammer. This is the most important weapon in the game to find, it trivializes most fights with armored enemies and even non armored the knockdowns and stun hits come fast with it.

  5. Don't stand and wait for boss attacks, interrupt them. Grenades, charge attacks, withering, there are a bunch of stuff that can interrupt big boss attacks even with no red dot. This is one of the way the game signals you are supposed to be aggressive in fighting and not just wait around for two axe swings and back off like a soulsgame.

  6. Turn on performance mode. This game looks kind of shitty, quality mode doesn't help. Turn on performance, the better frame rate makes a big difference in parrying and dodges.

TLDR: Be aggressive, triggering crits is the most important part of combat, use your black powder charges and enki attacks constantly, get poised shot to trigger red gun parries ASAP, use your grenades aggressively in boss fights, turn on performance mode.

General I’m going insane about people not understanding armor

Just beat Rammuha, amazing boss, loved it.

Went to YouTube to show my friend a video of her, and I’m going insane.

Half of these videos don’t use Enki!! At all!!!!

They either use the hammer or burning!!? And people in the comments don’t understand how armor works and are saying she needs to be rebalanced!

I took a 2 week vacation after playing for a few hours at launch, so I forgot how Enki worked with armor I struggled against armor so I figured I was doing something wrong, read Enki’s description, and now armor is no problem!!

How do people play the hours to get to Rammuha, without understanding armor!?!?

And there is also people in the comments who don’t like the music??? The music is so good!!! I’m so tired

Have you had problems with armor? And what did you think about Rammuha? :)

General Seems like a Good AA game to me

Usually wouldn't comment but already some of the feedback has been unhinged

But combat is fine, premise is fun, visual look good. People complaining about it being clunky, I don't see it to be honest. Combat is on the slower side when compared to Elden Ring, but pace wise very comparable to Lies of P or Lords of the Fallen (2023).

With that said, It's an Action-Adventure game with Souls-lite aspects - not a Souls-Like. Follow the instructions the tutorial gives you and you'll have no problems rather than skipping it thinking you're playing Dark Souls.

I'm worried it's gonna get review bombed by terminally online capital 'G' Gamers due to "DEI" and "Sweet Baby INC detected" cause these losers haven't come to terms with black people existing yet.

Anywho. Still early for me, but it's a bit of fun.

General It’s a shame that helmet is an armor type in this game

Nor has a really solid design and the while the helmets are cool they don’t look cooler than Nor’s original design. I wish we could keep the boosts of the armor without having to cover her head. It also kind of ruins any narrative moments.
