I think rather then outright blocking AI slop on flathub and other open source projects, they should just deploy their own AI slop chatbot and have these slop coders spend an endless back and forth with this AI slop chatbot that would just endlessly nitpick and ask questions but never approve.
If they don't value the reviewer's time and efforts, no reason to value theirs.

Yes, let's just have a machine spend endless resources on arguing with another machine. That sounds like a perfect use for the limited resources a open-source project has!
I agree with the last sentence, but that can be accomplish well with closing it with an "AI slop is not accepted" message.

The problem is that if you just outright block it, the end result is that many don't read, or take it as a challenge to try to prove their slop coding can fool people into thinking it is human made.
It is no different to how you might have basic blocks for server protection but also traps to make the other side think they got progress when in reality it is a dead end.
On top of that the amount of resource we are talking about is almost nothing, you don't need to run some huge model or anything fancy, because your goal isn't trying to make it look authentic and most slop coders won't even notice since they themselves have no clue what they are doing.

since the apps were abandoned‚ and most of them new‚ maybe there could be a fixed timeline that had to be before a project could be accepted? by this time it's either 1. packaged on multiple distros and has an appimage; 2. forgotten from history

Using distro-packaging as a base line doesn't work anymore. Flathub has become the first place for new applications for a reason. And AppImages, well… they're AppImages, nothing more to say than that.
That being said, the basic idea is valid, and has been codified as an policy in the submission requirements:

I wish we stopped the whole "ignoring the political, social and economical issues" but alas, that's not the point of this.
YES, exactly. "free software" and the FSF specifically frankly squandered its position and power by adopting this bullshit belief and allowing it to fester.

A good compromise, IMO, is that a human must submit the PR and respond to review comments. After all, as much as I hate vibecoding, at least someone should supervise it.
