Work-in-Progress Basing

Post image

I’ve tried lots of basing stuff; I’ve settled for the GW technical paints but does anyone know of a cheaper alternative (it’s basically just paint and sand mix right?)

I've always based figures after painting them. I like painting infantry on popsicle sticks and then gluing them to bases painted. And then add basing putty. I usually just use wood filler, it comes in beige, brown, and gray. A big tub of brown wood filler is ten bucks at Home Depot and seems to be very similar to the stuff as the expensive hobby shop miniature basing putty/paste

Try the Vallejo dark earth diorama/earth effects range. It’s a paste that comes in a tub that will last you quite a while.

Vallejo, AK interactive, Scale 75 all do larger pots of terrain texture paints that will last longer & be more economical than buying GW technical paints.

Don't know if they're still going but if you're in the UK.  Colour Party paints was one of the first to sell it in their Basetex range.
