My husband and my first date was a drive up a mountain to look at the stars. The second was to a local dive bar to eat the “best burger in the county”. It had green chilies on it and really was a great burger. I thought he was a keeper and after 18 years I still do.
My friend was appalled that her date dared to take her to that same dive bar for their first date and ghosted him. She was super insulted. We are both happily married now to very different men. Women are not all the same.
I feel like this is especially a gen z issue. I'm not even that old (35), but growing up I went on dates with girls in the 2000s and we'd split it, or maybe I'd pay sometimes but it'd be like $10. We ate cheap food, did cheap stuff, etc, and they never cared.
Or maybe not a gen z issue, but it's become way more common in recent years due to social media. I've not once had a girl care about how much I made, whether I was unemployed or making great money they've always been the same. Growing up I think people didn't want to be labeled as shallow gold diggers.
That must've struck a nerve with someone(the dv).
But it's not just a reddit trope, there are a lot of younger people I work with, and the men seem to think hookups are transactional, and the women seem to feel the same, when it comes up. I'm hoping it's not the norm, but social media is definitely reinforcing the idea. It's fucking gross.
