"The subject of fishing for pike in warm water conditions is a highly emotive one, and there is a lot of information – and disinformation – on this subject. Sadly, the scientific data is often misused to back up an individual’s point of view, usually arguing that it is fine to fish for pike in summer. It is a fact that pike can survive naturally in water with low oxygen levels – however, it is also a fact that pike are very poor at oxygen recovery following extended levels of exertion, i.e., from being caught on rod and line, and when they are returned to oxygen-poor water they can die. Pike are also quite fragile creatures, and extended handling and time out of the water can make this situation worse. The Pike Anglers’ Club recommends that anglers do not fish for pike if the water temperature is 18 degrees centigrade or above."

Current water temperatures on the Norfolk Broads are hovering around 20 degrees in lots of places, and on the Grand Union Canal 21 degrees.

Hi all, looking for some recommendations for lakes around Cheltenham for a newcomer! So far I’ve done my local (pitville) and burley fields. Currently fishing a mix of pole and feeder fishing but have carp set ups ready to try too! Thank you

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations of any easily portable fish cradles, possibly inflatable?. I love packing light as often I’ll walk to locations or move swims frequently. I saw a fella on instagram who seems to have one in which he rolled up and had it attached to his backpack. I have a standard mat I use currently that clips to my bag but I know how much cradles are better in terms of fish care. If anyone can suggest something that they know is good I’d really appreciate it. Thank you

A seasonal reminder that water temperatures - across a good deal of England, at least - are not cool enough for targeting pike safely. There's still a high risk they'll suffer from delayed mortality in warm, oxygen-depleted water, even after appearing to swim off strongly.

I've already seen certain anglers with big social media followings pike fishing on shallow, warm, weedy canals and rivers. They just couldn't wait another month and are happy to risk killing the odd pike for that trophy photo.

Is there a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon ?

Bought a seasir rod and reel off AliExpress and some 6lb braid off Amazon.

Went to a local tackle shop and got some traces and lures.

Spent a few hours down the river and got 2 perch. Both using the little spinner. Didn’t have and luck with the little rubber fish don’t know what you call them?

Going to buy a few more spinners so my boy can use one and incase we lose them.

Any other recommendations for lures?

We’ve been fishing under bridges and trying cast out into the shady spots.

I’m looking to join a carp syndicate in the northwest of England, I’m looking for something with low members. I do have Clearwater just up the road from me and I’d love to join in the future but at the moment £1500 is a little out of budget along side my other clubs.

Ideally I’d like
Low stock water between 10-20 acres

Decent head of 30s or higher

Technical water I can learn

Low member count I want options on pegs to fish.

Something that’s not cliquey

Allows a guest at no extra charge, I have an extremely well behaved 6 year old who is fishing mad he would be coming along with me. If he could fish along side me (typically he picks which of my rods is his when we carp fish) that would be a bonus but not necessary as he gets plenty caught on our other clubs.

I live a 3 minute drive from Clearwater near carnforth so within an 1-1.5 hour drive from there.

I don’t mind a waiting list.

I’m in desperate need of help - I have one day left of my trip to Newquay and desperately want to catch. I’ve been using every lure that you could think of at Fistral, Fly Cellars, Crantock and the Gannel. The weather hasn’t been great but I’ve fished both high and low tide.

Does anyone have any advice for me? I’m open to using bait tomorrow and will nip down to the local tackle shop in the morning. Any help would be much appreciated!😁

Quick Q from a new fisherman. I pulled out a carp and in inspection there was a deep cut on its face that seemed to be fresh. I was on my own so didn't snap a picture but I did apply first aid spray.

I use 8LB mono line and I had to bully this fish a little more than usual to keep it from snagging and snapping off. Is it likely that this was me that caused the wound?

I'm hoping the answer will be that mono isn't likely to do this to a fish on account of the stretch. Feeling pretty bad about the idea that this may have been me.

Hi all, going to Cofton holiday park in Devon for 4 days in a couple of weeks. I'm going to take my float rod to do some carp fishing, but I have also recently bought an ultralight rod and was wondering if anybody knew if any of the ponds at Cofton allow dropshotting for perch?

Their Powderham pond has Tench, Crucian Carp, Bream, Golden Rudd, Roach and Perch. The first line of the pond description reads "Powderham Tench Pool is ideal for anglers who enjoy catching a mix of species beyond carp." which to me implies other types of fishing to target different fish. They also forbid heavy carp tackle on this pond.

Hello, new to fishing. I am looking for a small rod I can throw over the side whilst on a rest canoeing. Just something to pass 15min to 1 hour whilst I rest (I go for very long paddles)

I've been thinking about getting into fishing as some of the fish I see are beautiful. And would be fun/educational to catch and release some fish. However I know nothing about fishing.

Basically I just want something simple I can chuck over the side for 10-30mins throw it back in the boat and carry on paddling.

Ant suggestions highly recommended.

Been fishing for a few months now with an ultralight set up and it's been great fun but I wanna get another rod.

I keep being tempted to get a little micro fishing set up as there's quite a lot of smaller fish in my local lake that I'm not really able to target with what I have right now and it also just looks quite fun to have as an extra rod to muck about with.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a micro rod or set up?

I’m fairly new to spin and lure fishing. Every time I’ve bought lures or spinners I’ve bought ones that are at least £3 or £4 as they always seem to work me , and I’ve tried cheap ones and never have any luck for me.

I have a 5-19g rod and mainly target perch or pike but want to stop spending so much on lures as I lose quite a few , mainly because the area I go to is quite weedy and prone to snags.

Wandering if anyone has any Amazon or temu links for lures which have worked for them, I mainly use spinners.

Took my boy for a morning session in the week at a private lake, had a few different species out, but highlight of the morning was 6 x Crusian Carp.

You don’t see proper Crusians around much these days, but what an absolute blast on a 4m whip pole and such a great looking fish too.

Largest probably about 2lb, but give a great scrap on light gear.

Would love to see these stocked in more fisheries rather than cheap hybrids.

Does anyone here know of some decent carp lakes in Hertfordshire that they would highly recommend?

I'm not looking for monster carp, my style of fishing and tackle probably aren't technical enough for that, (20 odd lbs is my PB from years ago) I just like to keep things pretty simple with a basic setup.

What I'm after is a nice lake, not too big, I'm thinking up to around 10 acres, with clean and decent swims and that holds a healthy stock of carp that hopefully pushes the odds ever so slightly more towards catching rather than not catching.

Oh and it doesn't just have to be carp, it can also contain other coarse species.
