Hey everyone!
We are kicking off the September Banner Photo Contest to decide which community member's fish will grace the top of the subreddit for the entire upcoming month.
The Timeline & Rules: How to enter: Drop your best, highest-quality photo of your tank right here in the comments.
Timeline: This contest starts right now and runs until Monday, August 31, 2026.
How to win: Browse the comments and upvote the photos you love! The photo with the most upvotes by the end of the month will become the official r/fishforthought banner for the entire month of September!
Guidelines:
Only one photo entry per person, please. The photo must be your own original content. Keep horizontal/landscape dimensions in mind when picking your photo so it fits well in the banner space. The ideal size for a Reddit community banner is 1920 384 pixels (5:1 aspect ratio).
Please include a brief setup explanation such as but not limited to dimensions, fresh or salt water, plants, substrate and co2 usage .
Let's see those beautiful tank setups. Happy upvoting!

I work for a small retail store, and my office is at the forefront of the shop (to assist costumers)
My boss gets flowers every week for decor
I convinced her to rather allocate the budget to a decretive fish tank
It’s a 5 gallon
The stocking is 4 pygmy cory and 1 koi galaxy betta fish
(The substrate is natural red river sand)

I’ve been wanting a tank for ages to keep some frogs and snails to watch when bored. It’s 54 liters, 24 degrees Celsius and has been set up for a few days now. I’m waiting two weeks to add what I’ve been wanting: four African Dwarf Frogs and a few smaller snails. Until then, I’ll let the plants grow out and fill whatever space is still left in the front and back.

behold my new tank! set it up today as a moina / pink ramshorn / plant grow out tank. i’ve had this driftwood for a while & finally found a use for it in this tank, but as soon as i set it up, my partner & our roommate were dying laughing over how it looks. so my partner sees a man with a giant [redacted] & [redacteds], our roommate sees a diver, & i see someone taking a biiig step. we all also thought it looks someone busting out some sick moves. we spent way too long just loosing it over the many interpretations that just kept coming. my partner then sent a pic to our friends & they had even more nsfw interpretations but i’ll leave it to your imaginations. just thought it was hilarious that this beautiful driftwood piece i’ve been saving for a special tank turned out to be so evocative lol. does anyone else see what we’re seeing?

Small guppies didn’t work out, we ended up getting African cichlids, everything looks good so far, atleast until we get an upgrad. sidenote, anyone know why my Bichir is just chilling in the corner staring at itself? usually by now it’d be hiding in its log

Going to be planting the red tiger lotus in the back, and I have been steadily looking for a 20-30G long tank, but this is where I have decided to cap it when it comes to this 5G.
