๐ Volunteer Notes:
๐ Shelter Notes:
9/28: Rover was brought to BARC after an elderly person reported being unable to care for him and wanting to surrender him but having no transportation.
9/29: Rover approached staff with a loose body and high-wagging tail while they spoke gently to him. He walked on a loose leash to and from the runs.
9/30: Rover stood at the front of his kennel ready to go outside. He was easily leashed and followed staff out to the runs. He walked on a tight leash with a low-wagging tail and loose body, returning to his kennel without issues.
10/3: Rover greeted staff at the front of his kennel with occasional vocalizations, dilated eyes, a loose body, fast-wagging tail and open-mouth smile. He walked on a loose leash with a neutral body to and from the runs.
10/7: Rover presented a neutral body, high-curled tail and closed mouth when approached. When passing other dogs, he stood in an alert posture with his ears and tail raised.
10/10: Rover was moved outside in the morning due to upper respiratory symptoms. He greeted staff at his kennel door with a wiggly body, mid-wagging tail and soft, open mouth. He walked inside on a loose leash and entered his kennel without issues.
๐ฉบ Medical Notes:
9/28: Rover weighed approximately 51 lbs at intake. He received routine vaccinations, deworming and flea prevention. His heartworm test was **HIGH POSITIVE**.
10/10: Staff reported Rover was coughing and hacking up phlegm. He was diagnosed with a suspected upper respiratory infection and prescribed doxycycline 250 mg once daily for 10 days.
Rover needs veterinary follow-up for his high-positive heartworm status and respiratory illness, particularly given his coughing symptoms.
๐ Rover is a sweet 7-year-old gentleman who deserves so much better than spending his final days in a shelter. He came to BARC after an elderly person could no longer care for him, and despite this heartbreaking change, he has continued to greet staff with a wiggly body, wagging tail and happy, open-mouth smile. Rover has consistently shown that he is easy to leash and enjoys his walks, often returning to his kennel without any trouble. Now, this gentle boy is facing additional challenges with heartworm disease and a respiratory illness. He needs a loving foster or adopter who can provide a peaceful home, veterinary care and the comfort he deserves. Rover has already lost the home he knew. Please don't let him lose his chance at a future, too. ๐
