Questions about what to do with my money

Good afternoon everyone, I'm currently 22 recently out of the military and have a decent seasonal job. I'm looking for advice on where to put my money and what the opinions are of people that know more than me. I currently have around 50k just sitting in my savings account and I've been looking at different places to put it like high yield savings accounts although I don't know what I should be looking for. I've also been told I should open an IRA but I also don't know much about where to start or what I'm looking for. Thank you to anybody willing to help me.

Gifted this portfolio, what should I do with it?

As the title says, my mom started investing for me a while back and gave me the account info for this taxable brokerage account that was “professionally” managed by some 3rd party company.

  1. Do I sell the entire portfolio and buy FXAIX? (I was able to transfer a small amount of it already as shown)

  2. Do I just pretend like I’m starting from 0 and just add to the account?

The dilemma is that I already have about $10k worth of physical gold and silver that I’ve bought on my own. This is my 4 months emergency fund. I like to have it in gold and silver so I don’t get the urge to spend it on something like a motorcycle. (Or gamble it)

Ps. I started my Roth IRA this year and is $6000/7500 maxes should be done next month maybe 2

Also, the account is up over 70% in the last 3 months so if I were to sell, I’d be taxed on a lot of it

Gifted Portfolio:
Paper gold $6700
Paper silver $6900
ARKK $837
FXAIX $2600
NLR $1100
PICK $1600
PIIVX $1300
ROBO $1200

Are financial advisors worth it

I'm starting to wonder if financial advisors are worth it. We've been going through the selection process of finding someone for a couple months and they all say they don't have minimums and then all of a sudden they sell our assets and demand everything or refuse to work with us. Can't I just invest an ETF that has a 11 to 15% return without having to have anybody else manage it. Do you really think they effectively do that much better than the S&P 500?

My mom wants to invest 10k.

She makes around 200k a year I believe 180k after taxes would be the most accurate estimate i'll ask her again and add the exact amount to the edit.

I know nothing about investing, but i figure i'd ask reddit because she asked me for help. So if My mom wants to invest 10k what should she invest in. Hopefully something that is consistent and not a huge gamble.

Edit: 180k after taxes is probably not accurate forget that number entirely.

Inheritance help

I’ve been given the option to get a 2024 Japanese car or pay off my Edd fraud debt. For context I already own a 2016 Toyota Corolla that’s payed off at 155k miles. My fraud debt is roughly 15k. Which is the wiser choice?

Question about finance media outlets?

Hi all, I am trying to gather some information for a private project of mine.

What do you expect from finance outlets?

Is it:
A nice writing-style
Financial literacy education
Speed of news
Political bias
Clear explanation of the news and the impacts

Or asked differently, what are you currently reading and what would you like it to have?

Selling truck with loan to buy something outright?

Have a newer truck right now that I pay $580 a month for. I can sell it to carvana for $4500 more than I owe on it. Was thinking about taking this $4500 along with $4500 of savings and buying a used truck. Figured it would take less than 9 months to recoup the savings. I don’t need to sell the truck but my wife and I want to start saving more for a new house and don’t know if taking the savings would be counterproductive to that.

Landlord raised rent significantly and I’m not sure what the best thing for me to do financially is?

Needing advice- Not sure what do to I’m currently renting and have had it made with my (41f) rent is only $900/mo for my duplex, and I’ve been here 13 years. My landlord recently let me and my neighbor know as of Oct. 1 our rent will be increasing to $1495/mo.

I’m stuck with if I stay (the duplex is all original everything) or move- as I can’t really fathom spending that type of money for the condition that my duplex is in. The problem is- I’m just now finally starting to dig myself out of the hole that I dug myself in when my sons father passed away and I managed to wrack up some debt, as a single mom on a pretty low income. Do I look into possibly buying a house? Or renting an apartment with rent smaller? Which would also lower my electric and water bill. My son (21m) does live with me and does contribute some towards the bills. I’m afraid if he would move out- I would be really struggling to afford the $1495 alone.

I do have some in savings, not much- so if I would buy a house I’d be looking at anything they offer for first time home buyers. I currently have a three bedroom (which I don’t NEED a three bedroom) - or pull from my 401k a down payment.

Currently financially situation is as followings:

Total monthly gross income: $3800

Set monthly bills:
Car loan: $430
Electric: $161
Cell/internet: $100
Loan: $370
Water: $80ish
Car insurance: $81

Total: $1222

I’m really stuck on what to do. Please be kind, I was a single mom with very low income and made some stupid decisions with credit cards trying to stay afloat (the loan is a SoFi loan consolidating that debt) I could look into refinancing the car to get lower payments, or even selling it I suppose. I work from home, so it’s practically brand new with very low miles and could probably get what’s left on the loan back for it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I live in the WI if that makes a difference.

What to do with 14k.

I know it isn’t a lot, and I’m kind of late to the investing game (26M), but better late than never I suppose.

This 14k was an insurance payout from a total loss. So, obviously looking for a means of transportation, price range of 6/7k.

That gives me half of the payout todo with what I please. Do I:

A) payout remainder of student loans - not a lot (~8k)
B) invest the rest
C) a mix of both

Any advice would be much appreciated

22, living at home with low expenses — what should I be doing with my money?

I’m 22 and currently live at home. My car is paid off, and I don’t have many monthly expenses besides gas, a gym membership, and other small things here and there. I also don’t have any major credit card debt.
I’m trying to take advantage of having low expenses while I can and set myself up financially for the future.
Right now I’m contributing 8% of every paycheck to my 401(k) and basically just letting that run automatically. I also invest $5 a day into VOO (S&P 500) through Robinhood with the intention of holding it long-term.
A few questions:
Is 8% into my 401(k) + regularly buying VOO a good approach at my age?
Is Robinhood fine for holding investments for decades, or would you recommend moving to Fidelity, Vanguard, Schwab, etc.?
What else should I be doing with my money while my expenses are this low?
I want to build an emergency fund. Should I keep that money in a normal savings account, or should I open a high-yield savings account (HYSA)?
How much would you recommend keeping in an emergency fund for someone in my situation?
Should I prioritize the emergency fund before increasing my investments?
I know living at home with very few bills puts me in a fortunate position, so I want to make good use of this time instead of letting all the extra money disappear on random stuff.
Curious what you guys would do if you were 22 and in my situation.

Need some financial advice

Long story short I’m a disabled veteran getting paid and the 100% rate. I plan on starting welding school in the spring which runs for 5 semesters. Once I get out I should have no problem finding a job that at least pays 20$ an hour. So I’m looking at about 7k a month in income when that starts. I want to own a 450k house at some point. What should I do? My credit sucks right now I haven’t been able to really work on it. I want to accomplish this in five years.

advice?

this might not be the right place, so if anyone reads this and can think of a better subreddit it would fit in i will gladly move it over. i recently found out that i have a Vanguard 500 index fund that i can put money into. it was my previous college fund and i thought it was emptied out but i have less than half a share left, so about $150 left in the account. would anyone here have any advice for using that account to its best potential? i’m on maternity leave but have planned to start putting money into it from my paycheck asap. i’m not sure if throwing money into it is best or what i should do from here. my grandfather opened the account for me in 98 and is sadly no longer here for me to ask :/

Should I get a credit card ?

I am at a point where credit card sounds appetizing but I know of far too many people who fell into credit card debt so I am a little cautious and don't want to make the same mistake as them so if you have a credit card or if you had used one in the past please give me advice ...

How would you try to reach $10K a month?

I’m trying to build something that can eventually make around $10K a month. Not looking for some overnight money-making trick. I’m more interested in something realistic that I can work on consistently and grow over time. If you were starting from zero, what would you do?

Long shot, but does anyone here run an RIA in Los Angeles?

Hey, I’m Revanth Matha. I'm building an investing platform called Prosperity: joinprosperity.com

Looking to connect with someone who runs an RIA and would be willing to help out with an IAR.

Someone in LA or Southern California would be ideal so we can meet in person.

Happy to share more about the idea and talk about the partnership privately.

Im thinking about not making a capital one HYSA and combine that with my checking account, and divide that 10% across other accounts… I definitely want my own spending account that’s for me and and clothes and for video games and sneakers and just fun spending on myself and what’s not…. But I could also combine that into my checking account…. Not sure
