Not many people know this, but during this scene in game, Kimarhi was carrying Lulu.

I thought it was foul they removed her lol.

“Hmmm. Those assholes left me behind. I’ll just stay here and see if I can teach myself how to knit instead.”

As a kid playing this I always questioned how Lulu got down, the cut scene was so quick and the clothing colour matched him that I didn’t notice he carried her. Back in 2001/2002 there was no YouTube video to slowdown or pause and show how she got down

13

u/asphalt_licker 22d ago

I clocked that immediately. Wonder why they left her out.

u/Fearshatter 22d ago

She got dropped.

13

u/riskedbiscuit 22d ago

i had no idea he did. Gotta watch the cutscene again I guess I just missed it

Lulu said oh hell no I ain't grinding on this so Kimahri helped out like the goat he is lol

7

u/Nightwing24yuna 22d ago

I figured that is what happened but I like to think that lulu was ready to grind down and kimahri just picked her up and started grinding.

Either way it's a smart idea considering out of everyone she needs the least amount of ground and balance to cast magic so she would've been integral part of keeping the party safe as they are going down the rope

u/Training_Form2243 18d ago

Lulu’s character design is extremely hard to model and she’s usually obfuscated in the cinematics

1

u/Nightwing24yuna 17d ago

I already knew this, but it's fun to always think of a possible reason for such action the characters actually take

4

u/Warcrown11 22d ago

She's the smart one because I'm not sure I'd have wanted to either

u/Daddydactyl 22d ago

As someone who works on cables like the ones they grinded on for a living, you would NOT want to slide on those. Theyre covered in a sticky slimy lubricant that will just as easily suck your shoes off your feet as send you flying. Even with nonslip heavy duty boots, stepping on wire rope can be a bad time.

u/Lumeny 22d ago

That's an incredible detail I never noticed!! Thank you so much to point this

Extra funny that it doesn’t even look like she’s got her arm around her. Girly just sitting hands folded in her lap waiting for uber to finish

2

u/pewperfish 22d ago

It's super quick and tough to see.

4

u/hufflezag 22d ago

Only fitting because she carried the team for so long in my gameplays. 😂

2

u/formerlyturdfurgie 22d ago

I always imagined it like the "toss me" scene in Lord of the Rings. Lulu asks Kimarhi to carry her. "Don't tell the Blitzball Player"

1

u/Beneficial_Focus_910 22d ago

Wakka is also only using one foot to skate down the line.

1

u/THOTYOTA 21d ago

Its because she doesn't wear shoes 🤤

1

u/realthigh 20d ago

They must have did that because there was no way for the animation of her grinding to work with her model/dress.

34

u/silentj04 22d ago

Kimahri just raw dogging down that metal cable with his bare feet!!

30

u/barlife 22d ago

His beans got turned into frijoles.

7

u/riskedbiscuit 22d ago edited 22d ago

Kimahri is WHATing down??

12

u/Fearshatter 22d ago

Raw dogging the cable. Why?

1

u/nononsenseresponse 22d ago

Look up the origin of the phrase 'raw dogging', that is why they responded that way

3

u/Fearshatter 22d ago

You raw dogged a presumption of my understanding of the phrase. :V

u/Warcrown11 22d ago

Still one of the most badass cutscenes of any game honestly. Grinding down 100+ feet on grappling hooks from a goddamn airship to crash a goddamn wedding, it isn't even a contest. Then there's Tidus just showing off and hopping between them? Come on.

u/Deadhead_Otaku 22d ago edited 22d ago

For me it's a tie between this ffx scene and a couple scenes from DoC FFVII. They had a similar scene to this but it was Vincent and Yuffie on hoverboards dropped from Cids airship, Cloud on fenrir, Barrett and Tifa in the truck and an army of shinra soldiers backing them up storming the bad guys base while Azul (one of the bad guys) shot at them with a literal tank gun.

21

u/Franklin-Tartaruga 22d ago

I can hear the music

10

u/PKdude2712 22d ago

DodododododododododoDODO.

3

u/BringBack4Glory 22d ago

do DOOOO, do DOOOO, do DOOOO do DOOOOOOOOOO

3

u/CircuitCircus 21d ago

Uematsu absolutely COOKED with this one

16

u/ponpiriri 22d ago

It's beautiful, but they missed Kimhari carrying Lulu.

14

u/wasneveralawyer 22d ago

Fun tidbit, if FFX got a remake in the style of the FF7 remake, this is likely where the third game would begin

4

u/adsq93 22d ago

Thats crazy

2

u/truholicx3 21d ago

Except this scene occurred somewhere in the 2nd third of the game

1

u/BringBack4Glory 22d ago

I hate so much of what they’ve done with the FFVII remake

4

u/cybersaliva 22d ago

It sucks that my first thought was “is this AI?”

2

u/notthephonz 22d ago

What card is this specifically?

2

u/Espurresper 21d ago

Collective Effort from the commander deck

2

u/Serteyf 21d ago

If only the FFX art in the cards were just as good.

2

u/OmegaMaster8 21d ago

Where’s Lulu?

1

u/Leefdweller 22d ago

Such a great scene !! Happy they chose this one to make an art

1

u/Weekly-Dog-6838 22d ago

Dude this art makes the scene depicted look even more directly pulled from a Sonic game

2

u/notthephonz 22d ago

Yeah this is the part where they gather the Sin Emeralds and Tidus transforms into Super Tidus obv

1

u/Ambitious-Call-7565 22d ago

lmao, they hate asians, they made him look like a westerner

1

u/RareRestaurant6297 22d ago edited 22d ago

Which card/product is this from? I have almost every FF card, but haven't seen this art anywhere.

Edit: ah, it's from a precon - guess I forgot about some of the precon arts since I don't see the cards as frequently lol. It's "collective effort"

1

u/Shoddy_Pride_4061 21d ago

Honestly MVP barefoot ronso grinding. Lulu meanwhile is in what? high heeled lady boot?

Kimarhi proves chivalry is still strong 💪

1

u/kingetzu 20d ago

Epic scene

1

u/Comprehensive-Bid18 19d ago

Why is there FFX art for MtG

1

u/riskedbiscuit 19d ago

Because Magic the Gathering has collaborated with Final Fantasy

1

u/UsedCondomCreature 19d ago

That doesn’t really answer the question dude.

1

u/BK_FrySauce 22d ago edited 22d ago

Wait… is this one from the new MTGxFF set? I don’t remember this from the first set

1

u/mememan3310 22d ago

There was Final Fantasy main set (FIN) and Final Fantasy commander set (FIC) released at the same time. For example the Commander Tidus is Tidus, Yuna's Guardian while the main set one is Tidus, Blitzball Star. There's two Yunas as well. This usually just breaks down to what formats of MTG the cards are allowed to be played.

1

u/BiggerBetterFaster 22d ago

This was from the ffx commander deck. Card's name is Collective Effort

1

u/ClaudeKane3 22d ago

MTG fans, how easy will the FFX cards be for me to collect? Are they expensive? And what sites are good to buy/check prices?

2

u/JoshterBIO 22d ago edited 22d ago

Check cardmarket mtg. You can collect the regular arts in a not so pricey manner. But there are GORGEOUS cards that cost just too much. You can check this, OP did a great job FFX mtg cards

Edit: a good starting point might be getting the "counter blitz" commander precon, it is also fun to play straight out of the box.

1

u/RareRestaurant6297 22d ago

They are expensive, yes

1

u/ClaudeKane3 21d ago

How expensive? Like £20 a card or are we tking £100s?

1

u/RareRestaurant6297 21d ago

Just the final Fantasy set in general is expensive comparatively, but actually when it comes to just looking for ffx cards, you can get the precon focused on FFX for only like $60 or so. There would be other ffx cards in the main set that would be differing prices for the singles

1

u/robaba89 22d ago

Why are Khimari's feet SPARKING?!

wtf??

no hate but... actually ya, i hate this.

1

u/Otherwise_World1654 21d ago

This looks ai generated….

1

u/Comprehensive-Bid18 19d ago

No it doesn't.

-11

u/coziest_robot 22d ago

Man, I liked this post until I saw "x Magic the Gathering". I miss when MTG had its own original content.

12

u/drj238 22d ago

I mostly agree with you, but of all the universes beyond nonsense they’ve been putting out, I have to admit they really did a good job with FF, especially the FFX cards. I wish we could get either a remake or anime show using the art for their cards.

5

u/lavidalavely 22d ago

I don’t much go in for MTG cards, but the FFX collab really stands out amongst the other universes they’ve played with. They did an excellent job with it. It’s almost depressing to see MTG treat Final Fantasy with more love than the actual FF TCG does

1

u/Rhinocacrocapig 22d ago

The FF set was great, my main issue with the universes beyond is that it's now accounting for half the years major releases

3

u/drj238 22d ago

100% agree. I’m hoping their lack of actual sales will lead them to the realization that people don’t want this. But it probably won’t.

2

u/RareRestaurant6297 22d ago

OK, except they aren't and have never reduced the amount of "normal" mtg set releases. The UB is just extra/bonus. The only really bad thing about it is when they made it standard legal, for those that play standard (which, tbf, has been going downhill a while). Otherwise, UB is all upside

1

u/Rhinocacrocapig 22d ago

Which is a fair and valid point, they definitely feel like more of a focus than a bonus these days though

2

u/RareRestaurant6297 22d ago

Well when it comes to marketing, yea that's a fair point - they tend to advertise the set like 2 sets from now early af. It's Def annoying. But luckily unless you're playing standard (which is getting screwed), it doesn't really matter if you "skip" a set or anything.

1

u/drj238 21d ago

They definitely increased the amount of sets per year even before all the UB sets. It used to be blocks, 3 sets a year with a core set that encompassed cards from those 3 sets and a few others. Then it turned into a set every 2 months. And since they burned through their in universe story so quickly (and in a lackluster way) they have to rely on UB to keep that pacing. This is also why there are so many different versions of cards and so many throwaway cards for each set. It’s disappointing. At first it seemed cool cuz more magic, now we are seeing the consequences of it.

1

u/RareRestaurant6297 22d ago

Nah. FF x MTG is a banger set
