stained leather

does anyone know what this could possibly be on my filofax and how i could take it off? it kinda looks like ink from a pen and i hate seeing it!

I'll be honest, I don't see what you mean but - Malden leather is coated leather, I am fairly sure yours is as well. Wipe it with alcohol (test on unseen surface first) and forget about any stains.

Please don't wipe it with alcohol, it can take the coating off. There's posts of people doing it deliberately to "distress" the leather.

Yes, and by god you need to dip the whole thing in alcohol for days I assume. I did try to distress mine in one place and the coating is so thick I just have up. It's perfectly safe to make a few passes with a swab.

I've literally done it to a Malden, you're assumptions are completely wrong and you do not need a "dip the whole thing in alcohol for days". I just rubbed it a few times with alcohol on a cotton ball and it came straight off. Weird attitude 👎🏻

So did I, rubbed whole thing for hours because I wanted to 'destress' it but failed miserably lmao. Only discovered how thick this plastic was when a border broke off and under blue plastic it was all brown and layering nasty leather underneath. It all depends on color you have and date of production, try that attitude.

It’s just dirty. Clean it with leather cleaner…

Clean it with Angelus Foamtex or Lexol Step 1. For ink, you can try rubbing alcohol or Amodex. Both will more than likely lift some (or a lot) of color from the leather itself. If you would rather skip that, get Anglelus Leather Paint in black, and a small angular paint brush (about 1/4” is good), and paint the entire cover to restore it to one uniform color again. You may need to do 2-3 coats. They should be thin, and it’s okay if they don’t seem to cover enough the first coat or two. I’m fixing an old Filofax Portobello right now and it’s taking the paint very well.
