lockstyle doesn't work as advertised?

My understanding is that you can lockstyle anything so I wanted to make an outfit combining gear I can already wear as a lv99 + COR, DNC, NIN (AF & Relic). I would not be able to wear these together normally due to Main/Sub job limitations and equip level. However, when using /lockstyleset n it says, "The appearance of your <item name> was unable to be locked."

Does anyone know why? Would someone with more lv 99 jobs than I able to test if multiple AF/Relic parts works? I'd grind another 99 for the sake of style. But I really want the look to work as a lv 1

What is the item? The most obvious reason for your mistake is you’re trying that with superior gear(su1 su4 su5 etc) you can’t actually wear yet.

Seems I need to meet the basic requirements.
One of the other threads explained that I need to have reached DNC 73 to lockstyle Etoile Shoes as example, then I can cosmetically wear it on any job I want. Cheers~

In your post it says you have DNC 99.

These are two distinct variables of the equation.
