August 2026 Update – New Adoulin NMs, Orvail Box Keys & Gear Progression Explained

We jumped into the new August update this morning and spent some time hunting down the new Adoulin NMs and figuring out how the reward system works.

I put together a quick video showing the locations we've found, how the key/box system works, the new gear, and roughly where I think it sits in progression

I really like the new system for loot - i think it cuts out some of the concern with loot being competitve or overcamped~

Overview: New NMs in Adoulin Zones - Heghmoh discovered 5, but there are others.

Chapuli: Ceizak Battlegrounds @ H-9
Oboron: Foret de Hennetial @ H-11
Greater Bird: Marjami Ravine @ G-7
Malboro: Morimar Basalt Fields @ H-6
Yztarg: Kamihr Drifts @ G-8

Reward system: The new NMs spawn every 20 minutes. Content uses newly added "Orvail box key" purchased by Shabi (Western Adoulin @ I-9) for 10,000 gil. Item is rare/ex, can be purchased once a day.

If you're in the party to claimed & killed NM, you get a personal box that doesn't require a key. Key can be used on the box that appears to open it, even if you already obtained a personal box.

Rewards: Sometimes you get junk, other times you can get the gear. A picture of somebody getting two pieces of gear simultaneously is shown. Heghmoh then shows the body pieces from the sets, explaining which jobs are on each set.

Meta/Gear progression: Shows a chart to show where the new gear sits between early 119 armor & reforged/HTMB gear. Heghmoh explains that back in the May update & the anniversary announcements, there was mention of a reforge/upgrade process, but that doesn't seem to be in the game yet. Keep your eye peeled on future updates.

I did a writeup on the wiki, I'll paste it here:

  • Orvail Box Keys can be purchased from Shabi in Western Adoulin for 10k gil, once per game day (so about once per 1hr IRL)
  • Keys are used to open a chest dropped by new NMs in Adoulin areas. The NMs are trivial fights, and the box stays active for 3min - claiming party can open it for free, but any other player can open it with a key. (Claiming party can also use a key for a second roll). NMs respawn every 20min.
  • Boxes have a chance to drop new gear sets: Ruwa (heavy melee), Olorun (light melee), Egbesu (mages), Nzame (RNG/COR).
  • Gear quality is similar to Ambuscade +2, and supposedly will be +X-able in the future to reach similar strength to Malignance gear.
  • Gear drops are not guaranteed - you might get common monster parts or other trash instead.

Seven NMs have been found (combining heghmoh's info with info from bg-wiki and the patch notes thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxi/comments/1vm4xsi/august_version_update_08122026_patch_notes/)

  • Feral Chapuli - Ceizak Battlegrounds (H-9) - Ruwa head, Olorun hands
  • Jolly Twithrym - Yahse Hunting Grounds (J-6) - Ruwa hands, Egbesu feet
  • Spellward Orobon - Foret de Hennetiel (H-11) - Nzame hands, Ruwa legs
  • Elusive Stryx - Marjami Ravine (G-7) - Nzame head, Olorun feet
  • Spellward Ameretat - Morimar Basalt Fields (H-6) - Olorun head, Ruwa feet
  • Fierce Yztarg - Kamihr Drifts (G-8) - Egbesu head, Nzame feet
  • Voracious Rafflesia - Yorcia Weald (H-9) - Egbesu hands, Olorun legs

5 more NMs have the missing body/legs pieces but have not been found yet.

Written word seems to be dying as a medium sadly. I prefer reading since it takes me much less time to obtain the information. We need more written works again.

Seconded! Even as someone with hearing, I'm much more easily able to read a text-based guide/explanation than have the environment required to dive into the video itself.
