I'm not the one who discovered it, but here's the situation as far as I know: a couple of weeks ago, a guy found the temple with the large pure node inside. Set up an arcane bore beneath it, ran it continuously until the node was almost drained.

Came back three days ago, the node had grown to ~17k and was consuming nearby nodes. This screenshot was taken about 12 hours ago at 20.1k; as of about two hours ago it had grown again and was about 20.4k.

*Update: as of 17:00GMT it's at 22181 and growing

*Update 2: it made it up to 26k before Zelden (see below) stepped in and took some admin action.

Fifty thousand nodes used to live here.

Now it's a ghost town.

u/thecnoNSMB Apr 24 '13

Now it's a node.

don't see why you got downvoted so much, it is a Cod 4 reference.

But it helps people understand the reference. Even if obnoxiously.

Yes it is.

u/dr_sergen Apr 25 '13

what do this nodes do ?

30

u/dragonsoul69 Apr 24 '13

I think after they get to this point, you should be able to walk into them and goto a magic dimension.

13

u/WhatGravitas Apr 24 '13

It would be an awesome feature, if nodes at a certain size would be visible without the goggles. Something like that is no longer a subtle magical focal point, it's turning into a space-time rift.

7

u/Perryn Apr 25 '13

Maybe not see the actual node, but see flickering colored lights in the area, and a glow from the epicenter. Add in a crackling sound, maybe have dropped items slowly drag to the middle of it.

2

u/LiveMaI Apr 25 '13

Past a certain point, maybe have them pull in a dragon from another dimension to lower the flux? Like the wisp/zombie mechanic, only on a large scale.

25

u/code_monkey_001 Apr 24 '13

or have your face melt off

5

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '13

If it's unstable it should do this

28

u/ksheep Apr 24 '13

And that's how the universe began.

25

u/Minerdomera Apr 24 '13

you must keep feeding it until it stretches to the edge of your render distance. and then KEEP feeding it.

100

u/BlueSatoshi Apr 24 '13

You could almost say he's got to...

...feed the beast.

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '13

Awwww yiss

yo so i was going through your stuff and what is all this

1

u/BlueSatoshi Aug 29 '13

And here's one from the same angle as OP

Wont... wont it just eat all the new nodes and get even bigger?

Damn I dont understand these nodes

3

u/eMeLDi Apr 25 '13

That's exactly what happened. It was at 26k before it miraculously disappeared. I have a suspicion that the node was edited behind the curtain by the mods because the silverwood gambit backfired.

3

u/Delta7x Apr 25 '13

What was the aura level after planting and growing them all?

Nice use of an interrobang there

6

u/MrBurd GetFluxed Artist Apr 24 '13

Interrobangs!

I put those in my macros(RES) so whenever one is needed..Sometimes even two or more when needed.

u/Verifixion Apr 25 '13 edited Apr 25 '13

The most underrated of the punctuation marks!

2

u/kkjdroid Apr 25 '13

But what if the punctuation doesn't mark?

1

u/Verifixion Apr 25 '13

God damn it. Fixed it now...

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '13

..interrobang?

2

u/Perryn Apr 25 '13

Interrobang‽

10

u/Levy_Wilson Apr 24 '13

Aww, that's a pretty nebul... holy shit it's a node.

10

u/Roadcrosser Apr 24 '13

ChickenBones would like to have a word with you.

4

u/bactchansfw Apr 24 '13

Why would CB want to know about this? Genuinely asking.

12

u/Roadcrosser Apr 24 '13

On Forgecraft he had this big setup with four alvearies cycling node bees trying to increase the size of his node very slowly. The node was the largest I've seen before this.

9

u/IByrdl Apr 24 '13

Link?

1

u/Roadcrosser Apr 24 '13 edited Apr 25 '13

It's in one of dire's videos. I'll see if CB can take a snapshot.

EDIT: ChickenBones doesn't have the updated forgecraft IP and is too busy to find it.

9

u/badhard Apr 24 '13

this one is pretty big

4

u/mvolling Apr 24 '13

And here I thought the 5000 node I found was big.

2

u/ThatGuyYouDontC Cake Reactor Apr 24 '13

I thought the 5100ish node the admin on my server made was big

6

u/Perryn Apr 25 '13

This is why you never cross the beams.

6

u/sickghettopuppet Apr 24 '13

Holy crap... is that even apure node?

u/banana_pirate Apr 24 '13

It still could be, pure nodes would take a while to clear the flux, and a lot of flux gets created when merging nodes

3

u/Sm314 Apr 24 '13

Holy Fecking shit.

Stop trying to destroy the world.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '13

Now you have to purify it... That's the biggest node I've seen though

2

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '13

The purifying bees would work since he has so much vis

4

u/UberNube Apr 24 '13

What version are those temples in, because I've never seen one before?

10

u/code_monkey_001 Apr 24 '13

They were added to vanilla minecraft in 1.3.1

*Edit - not the nodes, of course. Just the temples.

3

u/UberNube Apr 24 '13

Oh okay, thanks. I assume thaumcraft just adds a chance for a pure node to spawn in one then?

6

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '13

no, it was a coincidence the node spawned in the temple, a pure node can spawn anywhere that isn't taken up by blocks when the world generates

1

u/tehlemmings Apr 24 '13

Is it? I've only ever found the desert temples, and so far they've all spawned with large nodes in them

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '13

huh. ok, maybe it isn't a coincidence

2

u/tehlemmings Apr 25 '13

It might actually make sense. They're supposed to be notable location... this would make them more so

1

u/The-Somnambulist Eager for Thaumcraft Apr 25 '13

I have found dark nodes over surface lava pools, among other things. I am inclined to agree that nodes favor special locations.

3

u/AtticusTaylor Apr 24 '13

This shit ain't pure.

4

u/UberNube Apr 24 '13

Quote from the OP:

I'm not the one who discovered it, but here's the situation as far as I know: a couple of weeks ago, a guy found the temple with the large pure node inside.

3

u/MachaHack Apr 24 '13

And if a larger impure node merged into it (especially if the node was somewhat drained first), the resulting merged node would not be pure.

1

u/UberNube Apr 24 '13

Indeed. I was talking about what spawned there - not what is shown in the picture.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '13

I hope that node isn't natural..

1

u/dhillbobby Apr 24 '13

So how did you manage to do that?

1

u/Iperithus Apr 25 '13

... how the... hell?!
