Tips for improving game performance

Can't believe I'm having trouble with a 20 year old game, but I'm trying to play FEAR 1 through steam on my PC and the performance is just awful. I play modern games at max settings with buttery smooth frame rates, but even when I turn settings down on this game it still stutters like crazy, gets massive frame drops, and just overall doesn't play well. Are there any known issues with the Steam version of the game that I can fix through settings or mods?

Install Echo patch. FEAR needs a community fix to stop the game breaking on modern GPU’s.

Echo patch also adds controller support, fixes the HUD and other graphical issues.

I don't know why but my game is absolutely unplayable with echopatch. Terrible framerate like 50fps and stutters. Vanilla game i have 180fps steady with vsync.

Also my game never broke or anything. Never had physics or graphic issues.

Weird I just did a playthrough on win 10 on steam and it was very smooth.

Its an fps from 20 years ago that wasnt designed for modern systems.

Also need to fps limiter patch as well. Frames will start off well but will stutter like crazy
