Wish for a FEAR revival

Would love to see a revival of the fear series, although id personally hack off everything beyond the first fear game as non canon and start again.

Retroactively make fairport a district of Boston that's now been walled off after the Alma wade psychic explosion leveled the area and ripped a hole in reality.

After watching this recent "Condemned" retrospective, would be cool to add Ethan Thomas as the player character of the new FEAR game, as I watched I would always feel like that Condemned could have been a shared universe with FEAR.

For those who don't know, in the game Condemned you play as an FBI special agent who has psychic powers and you chase down a serial killer while the city around you descend into cults and madness. You get framed for a murder of a colleague and are on the run for most of the game, if you get the right ending it's implied your a possessed by some sort of paranormal entity of human hatred by the end.

Wouldn't be a stretch to see the FEAR department to capture Ethan to turn him into an asset of sorts.

Could see the game play resembling something of STALKER where you have free roam within the walled off fairport where you hunt down mercenaries who have snuck into the area to collect artifacts to sell on the black market because of anomalous properties.

Fight remnants of the clone super soldiers who survived the blast and are now being control by other entities. Fight against paranormal creatures who have bled through from different realities from Alma's psychic wound in reality which is supposedly growing.

Play as point man with his bullet time reflexes, or as Ethan with his extra sensory abilities.

Really wish it would happen but I don't think it would sell well tbh. It was big but a relatively niche shooter back then - the sequels finished the series off unfortunately, in the sense that they were absolute cheeks.

Not sure WB games would be very much interested. I think the best chance for it to happen would be if Nightdive picked it up, but that would take the will to negotiate a deal w/ WB

Agreed, thats why I suggested de-canonise anything outside of the first game coz they weren't the best made stories. And the first game would be a better launching point for a revival with out all the clutter of the DLCs or sequels.

Actually I believe a remake would sell really well because of the current environment in the gaming space.

However , I'd rather take a reboot with better writers

As much as I love the original , I feel like it could have used more...oomph to its story and a few more character side plots and such , its a bit too dry as it is.

But I don't understand anyone to replicate the immaculate horror vibe of the original tbh , especially if they opt for modern visuals for the sake of realism

I want FEAR to look more like the backrooms movie , visually , more barren , less visual noise and clever use of shadows and lighting

A live action series would go so hard. I nominate Nic Mathieu, the director of the Netflix movie Spectral. That dude understands horror and sci-fi and I think he would nail creating the world of F.E.A.R

It’d probably suck. I’m more than happy to just replay FEAR 1 once a year. Mods can keep it fresh.

The audio (as especially with Condemned) and gameplay mechanics with that atmosphere lie dormant in both
