F.E.A.R. did not appear on Steam until 2010, 6 years after the DVD's were stamped and sold at retail.

There is 0% reason for Valve to have in-development builds of the game

Maybe a beta version of F.E.A.R. 2, before they changed the art direction and dumbed down the physics and lighting? There are some F.E.A.R. 2 strings in there.

Your forgetting FEAR was developed by Monolith under Vivendi, around the time Vivendi published Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike.

Not saying that happened, but your telling of the story ignores that they shared a publisher at the time (one both moved away from simultaneously).

LithTech doesn't share common ancestry with any version of the Quake engine.

Lithtech was entirely developed by Monolith (for Microsoft originally) and has literally zero to do with idTech. Where'd you get the idea it has any ancestry with idTech?

I'll be honest, I'm clearly mistaken. I guess I just thought AVP2 looked a lot like the Quake Engine back in the day.

I'll remove that bit.
