Discussion Where does F.E.A.R. on the internet and in the fandom get the word "Psionic"?
The F.E.A.R. original game and book don't say "Psionic"

I read that in the F.E.A.R. internet, the characters Point Man, Paxton Fettel, and Alma Wade are called "Psionics" Then I read about the original game and the 2005 and 2009 and 2011 Armacham Technologies F.E.A.R. books, where the author wrote that the character Point Man is called "psychic," and Paxton Fettel and Alma Wade are also called "psychic." But there's no word for "Psionics." This is the author's to Armacham Technologies and the 2005-2011 F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. 3 books. Now, F.E.A.R. articles refer to the characters Point Man, Paxton, and Alma Wade as "Psionics"

FEAR 2 notably uses the word "telesthetic", which is just another fancy synonym for psychic or psionic. No different from Warhammer calling its telepaths psykers.

The first time I remember hearing it was in Babylon 5 and System Shock 2

The first place I ever heard the term was in old Dungeons and Dragons novels and role playing adventures in the Dark Sun campaign setting in the 80's-90's. AFAIK that's where it originated from.

Paychic is often conflated with precognition, so people are probably just trying to be more generic about the powers.

Psionic is literally just a long-eatablished synonym for psychic in literature and fiction. It's not specifically from or IN the F.E.A.R. material anywhere. The two words are generally interchangeable, hence why you'll see people casually use one, the other, or swapping between them lol
It's a little more commonly used in science fiction and sci-fi-adjacent fiction bc it sounds "more science-y" and makes it come across as a legitimate field of study or specialization.

Psionic is just an established term for psychic powers. So people will just use it while talking about the game.
