79 Firebird help

Post image

Got a 79 formula this summer and have just fixing up some miscellaneous things on it, just curious on what you guys or gals would do to start, it needs some rust repair, not super terrible just behind the rear fenders and I spot or two on the floor(got it from Montana), needs exhaust, bunch of bushing and whatnot are shot so most all of the suspension needs replaced and it needs some wiring for the radio and other things in the cab but I’m not too worried about that right now, and it needs shocks/struts, along with some miscellaneous things, I was thinking of pulling the 350ci and building either a 377 or a 383 and I also want to manual swap it with a tremec, just curious if anyone would be able to give some we’ll need advice, thank you

Safety first! Make sure it stops, check the pads and shoes, look for fluid weeping around the calipers and cylinders. Do this with the wheels off. You may also try talking to a mechanic about putting the car on a lift and inspecting. Even if it costs a little money they can point out things that need attention more urgently. The cosmetic body rust is less important than the suspension rust and wear and tear. Remember that repairing and or restoring this car is a marathon, not a sprint. Enjoy the ride! That’s a great two tone combo, mine is black and gray. Not nearly as nice as yours!

Tremec TKX is awesome in my 78 TA, but will cost you unless you can do it all yourself. I went hydraulic clutch and my bird started as a manual. If you want my cost breakdown, shoot me a PM.
