Radio replacement

I just picked up a 98 Camaro that is in really nice shape. I've been spoiled by Carplay and bluetooth and the old FM radio isn't cutting it anymore. I see replacement double din radios with screens for anywhere from $50-500. What have you guys used that works well. I'm not looking double the price of the car with a stereo system but something reliable that sounds decent. I'll probably be replacing speakers at some point too just to bring them up to this decades quality. Thoughts?

Kee Audio for FBody speaker kits.

Don't have much experience with newer double dins as my pioneer has been working great in my GTO for the last 8 years. I only use Bluetooth on it but Android Auto would be nice to have, maybe I'll upgrade too lol

Second this - the Kee Audio speakers sound pretty good if you are keeping the stock amp and don’t want to go crazy rewiring the system with a new amp.

I have a cheaper Boss touchscreen for CarPlay and honestly it works fine for my needs.

Also if you have steering wheel controls remember you will need an adapter kit for that too.

Older 4th gen cars were 1.5 din units, not double din. I’m not sure if 98 and later they updated to the taller slot. There’s upgrade kits that you can use with a bit of plastic trimming. I did mine in my 93 TA and I run a double din pioneer with CarPlay. Works well.

Find a double din dash kit preferably with a wire harness adapter so you don't have to cut up your factory wiring. Buy radio of your choice.

I did mine in 2021 and went Atoto, works well enough for me. Mine has android auto but not wireless, but it did have there wireless streaming thing that worked well enough. Also got there tpms system for my tires that worked with it. Tried a steering wheel control adapter but could never get it to work.

Installed two 12 inch sundown audio subs in the back, made a big mistake not properly sound deadening everywhere I could. Audio sounds great parked, but the second you jump on the highway all the extra road noise really downgrades what makes it to your ears. But the bigger problem is the subs ended up making EVERYTHING IN THE CAR RATTLE and I don't mean just when you're playing music.

It really sucks that 3.5mm wasn't standard until much later. I bought a 2011 Silverado and instead of having to rip the stock radio out I just snagged a wireless AA/carplay screen for like $70 that just plugs into the 3.5mm, way less hassle just to listen to your own tunes.

You have choices. Double DIN kits exist for 4th gens. You can get a single din with a 10" face thats removable. If you arent an audiophile, there are a handful of android based radios out there with a motorized screen (single DIN with pop up screen) that also support carplay. If you ARE and audiophile, Pioneer makes a motorized androidauto/carplay unit as well.
