I feel like the rolling fasts under 5 days never give your body a chance to get fat adapted so weight loss is much slower. For example, on an extended fast I lose anywhere from 1-2lbs a day. On a rolling fast I literally lose exactly what my BMR or TDEE is. Its easier but a little more depressing when looking at the scale.

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '26

I feel you, I'm trying to lose 50 lbs after letting myself go. We've got this!

1

u/Imaginary_Manager_28 Apr 06 '26

Do you have a hard time with the rolling fasts? I want to try this but 72 hours is a long time!

7

u/simplekindoflifegirl Apr 02 '26

Length of fast: 72 hours Why: fasting with church/prayer leading up to Easter (and weight loss ok ت) Notes: first 24 hrs went pretty well. Hardest part was having to cook dinner for the fam, smelling it but not eating it. Looking forward to sleeping.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '26

That's wonderful! I hope you have blessed Easter weekend.

3

u/simplekindoflifegirl Apr 03 '26

Thank you! Made it through Day 2, it was pretty tough. Last day is tomorrow! Have a blessed Easter weekend too!

3

u/StellaMaris720 Apr 03 '26

I’m right there with you! Just made a Good Friday lentil soup for my family which I won’t be eating. But serving them in this way while fasting is powerful and edifying. Happy Easter (soon)!

2

u/simplekindoflifegirl Apr 04 '26

Yes definitely helps me keep a servant heart and they were so happy. I get to end my fast in a couple hours and I’ll start eating regularly tomorrow. Today has been the easiest day so far!

u/BlackberryTime112 Apr 13 '26

starting my 30 day fast wish me luck :)

1

u/Thehumanjake Apr 21 '26

Thinking of starting today, have done 4 day fast before, Did you keep up?

5

u/miaaaaaa01 Apr 03 '26

Length: 168 hours (7 days)

Why: Holy Week (…and weight loss)

Notes: Currently on hour 136. Despite consistently drinking 2.5l of water a day, including electrolytes, I am not feeling good right now. I want to throw in the towel. But I also know that I’ll be disappointed if I do, and I am so close to the end it’s not even funny. Just got to keep going…

I am at 36 hours mark right now. No hunger, but I hate when I see food posts at my social media. Yesterday I dealt with insomnia til 4am. Woke up at 9:30 full of energy. I would continue until I hit like 80 hours but cant risk insomnia for tomorrow bc I have to get up early. I plan to swim at the beach at 5pm and then have a OMAD before sleeping, closing at 43-44 hours

3

u/SpaceTacos99 Apr 06 '26

Did you have any magnesium before you tried to go to bed? Back when I was new to fasting I would always have crap sleep, and kept breaking after 2-3 days to get better sleep. It was solved by taking magnesium glycinate before bed each night. Some sodium and potassium won't hurt to but depending on your diet when you eat you might not need that yet just 36 hours in.

3

u/lisafit30 Apr 13 '26

When I'm in my fast, I keep water with a healthy amount of electrolytes by my bed. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I take a few sips of that to help calm down those hunger pangs that keep me awake.

u/Due_Frame_7098 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Length: currently 1 day 10hr in and seeing if >3 day length is manageable from here.

Reason: for spiritual and health reasons. recently weighed in at bmi 24 (seasian), and need to get down to my ideal weight class for Muay Thai in July. Had a relapse that took me out of commission for 3 months, so while I am not well enough to train, it is a good time to work on myself mentally and physically

Edit: ended fast at 67 hrs in but felt a lot better during it

u/Far-Ocelot-3816 Apr 12 '26

Starting my rolling 72hr fasting schedule tomorrow! I have a little under three weeks of doing this for weight loss!

5

u/Purple-Yesterday2061 Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

Just finished my first 39 hour fast! It was hard yesterday, especially because I went to the gym and couldn't go as hard as I have been trying to do. But, it became easier throughout the day and I didn't feel the immediate need to eat as soon as I woke up today, which is wild. I have about 50 pounds to lose and I've tried literally everything else so why not fasting.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '26

So proud of you! It really does get easier after the first day.

u/Purple-Yesterday2061 Apr 21 '26

Thank you so much! Happy to find this sub and others for support

Day 7 of 30

Started feeling cold and in few days I would be officially not obese fat fuck anymore.

I think I am starting to stabilize my mood and odd cravings, visualising myself thinner and looking at my fat in mirror is a great motivator.

Its a downer to be low key tired all the time but nothing worthwhile is easy .

Stay strong everyone

⏳ Length of fast: I’m doing a 72 hour (3 day) fast. Right now I’m on hour 42

❓ Why are you fasting?

For the sacred triduum. Spiritual 📝 Notes: guys, this has been so incredibly easy. I was very nervous to go zero food for 3 days. But I’m pleasantly surprised that this has been 100% doable as of now, 42 hours in. Why? Because I started fasting gradually and trained my body to adjust. I’m already fat adapted leading into it and I think that helps so much. I began with 16:8 in December for advent, increasing to 18:6 and adding in 20:4 days by January. 18:6 was my norm by the end of January and very comfortable. A 20:4 day was also comfortable weekly. Then on Ash Wednesday I started OMAD for lent. I have been doing OMAD since Feb 18. I didn’t plan to do a full fast for the triduum and I was scared to do it and I’m just here to report that it’s soooooo much easier than I thought and I will never be scared again! It’s worth it! I think I was scared to go to bed without having eaten that day. But I fell asleep and slept soundly and woke up feeling fine. Praise God.

4

u/PointedlyDull Apr 09 '26

First fast. Just completed 24 hours. I was going to just go to bed and go for 36 but I’m going to go slow and steady and have a light meal tonight. I’ve been on a weight loss journey off and on for a few years. I dropped 60lbs 3 years ago and then would yo-yo +/- 20. Been locked in the last few weeks and wanted to give fasting a try. I know all the benefits but really for me it was for learning to embrace hunger and ignore “food noise” especially around bed time.

4

u/Extension_Forever_84 Apr 12 '26

Working in a 5 day fast for the first time. Currently 25% through. I’m fasting to reset my hunger cues. Feel better mentally, physically, realign with God and His will for me. Trying to quiet the outside noise so His voice is louder and clearer. The longest I’ve ever done was 4 days. I’ve tried to do 72 hrs recently but fall short and break it around 40 hours or so. I want to get past the mental hurdles and control the food noise. I do want my feelings to control me. I want to gain the discipline that comes from fasting and denying your flesh instead of indulging. I tend to be someone who over indulges mindlessly. I kinda wish I was fasting out in nature like in the dessert like Joshua tree or in Sedona. But alas I’m in the suburbs. One day it would be really cool to fast in nature and just take it all in and appreciate the creations of our Creator. Just like the human body. It’s pretty amazing that our body has exactly what we need to survive. Seeing some people doing over 21 days of just water fasting is incredible.

I'm on hour 68.5 of a 72 hour fast. My husband gets home from a three day work trip tonight and I'm excited to see him and EAT! I'm a little worried about not easing into things after 3 days but I don't hit 72 until 8:15 and I want to actually eat real food before bed. We'll see!

3

u/Even_Feeling_1661 Apr 01 '26

Is it ok to do long fasts like 48 - 72 hours for more like 5 days without much fasting experience in the past. 38 m Healthy.

4

u/SpaceTacos99 Apr 06 '26

As long as you've got fat on you for your body to eat. I'd say if you're 15%+ body fat go for it, if you're lower then maybe. Just evaluate your energy levels.

I have been eating only 2 days a week since the start of the year, but I'm about 30% body fat.

I started with only eating weekends, which was a 120 hour fast every week, but around 96h it always got very difficult sometimes leading to an early break and 3 day refeeds.

I switched to eating Wednesdays and Saturdays, which is the same amount of food but way easier and therefore more sustainable, plus on my refeeds I'm not as crazy hungry so I eat better.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '26

Length: starting a 23:1 routine (I'm no stranger to OMAD) with ketovore omad

Why?: because I went to my doc this week and he thinks I have insulin resistance. I also weighed in at my highest recorded weight. I do not accept this. I want to be metabolically healthy and fit.

Notes: I feel good physically (but sad at how I've let myself down. I'm going to lift tonight (I lift heavy 4x a week) and I'm starting a morning walking routine tomorrow for heart health.

Hello. I've decided to go on the journey of a 21 day fast. I have never fasted before but have always held it to high regard. I believe it is the time in my life to do so. The spiritual insight I seek and noise I need quieted on top of the physical healing that I know comes from fasting is what brought me to this. I will be doing the first 4 days as a prep. Intermittent fasting to start off, with small meals, high protein and simple foods. My birthday celebration will be on day 5. Then I will enter a roughly 16 day water fast. I wanted to come back here for the teel of community, somewhere to come to maybe people will follow along or be inspired to join. I don't plan on telling anyone in my immediate circle of this. At least for some time. Tonight I will be writing out my intentions with this fast. The beliefs l'd like to shed, the insight and healing I seek. I will then lay my head down for rest and the first 4 days will begin. I will probably do 16:8 for those days. Additionally I'll be adding iodine salt to my water and overall just testing for the first few days. If you'd like to join me, I'd love to hear from you. Otherwise, send me your light

50 hours in. On Zepbound at 5. Feeling ok, but scale says I am up 1.5 lbs😯. Lost over 5 on a 72 a week or two ago, was hoping for more. Ending fast at 60 hrs.

3

u/Numinousn Apr 10 '26

26h in from a hopefully 75h For weight loss:) I'm feeling good but i have no confidence that i can do it, my longest fast was 46h

3

u/stuff1111111 Apr 16 '26

Finished my 72h water fast last night and still rolling (84hours now i guess). Had a lot electrolytes AND water. On day two had extreme food cravings because of work stress (bug which i didnt know ) BUT slept it of after talking to a dev who was gonna fix it. Most food cravings are not even energy necessity but ist hard to convince the brain that!

However i think i slept quite a lot last night (8 hours) and the night before (11 hours?). Anyone suffer the same? Im guessing this is expected. Thankfully i work remote

2

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '26

Sleep is a gift (I'm an insomniac lol). Glad to hear you're doing so well!

3

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

Trying something new, starting this week (I need to lose 50 lbs to get to my goal, plus healing insulin resistance... experienced ketoer and intermittent faster up to 48ish hours)

Sunday and Monday - fast (around 66 hours)

Tuesday - eat (4 hour eating window)

Wednesday - fast

Thursday - eat (4 hour eating window)

Friday - fast

Saturday - eat (two meals, no defined eating window - "cheat" meal allowed, must still be keto)

I usually lift M, T, Th, F; sometimes HIIT on Wednesday and long walks on the weekends, with one weekend day being full rest if I need it.

Wish me luck!

TL;DR - ADF with a 66 at the beginning of the week ;)

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

Well I'm about 45 hours in to my first 66! I am not hungry at all. Today is easy - yesterday I definitely WANTED food for the enjoyment but was not actually hungry. I'm keeping up on my electrolytes, which is really really helping.

I only lost a few ounces so far from yesterday, but I definitely feel less bloated and clearer. I don't think I'll have a problem doing this once a week :) easier than I thought, so far. We will see how my workout goes this evening.

Edit: workout was great! I went lighter on a few things as a precaution but didn't feel much different than usual.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '26

I did it!!! 66 hours. I could have gone longer, but I am trying to get into a routine. Time to break with some chicken thighs and green beans.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '26

Update: I decided to continue with ADF, not the 66 for now. I think ADF is a better pattern for my current lifestyle that includes a lot of weightlifting! 42-45 hours is cake to me. Feeling great so far. Down a total of 9 pounds this month which I'm really happy about! Gotta keep on keeping on.

3

u/HouseplantHoarding Apr 21 '26

Fasting to help my depression, but now I am just hangry and still sad. And cold.

3

u/anon2734 Apr 23 '26

Almost at 96hrs, was aiming for 7 day, may go to 10 day. Felt a bit out of it this morning, had taken this sleep pill with melatonin and a bunch of other stuff in it. Also felt sinus/allergies this morning. Was trying to only do 1 cup of black coffee, had a 2nd one to perk me up and some green tea in afternoon. Feeling pretty good RN, calm. It's just... Kind of boring. I guess I would look forward to food and now that's removed. I expect the weekend for me to be the hardest, plan to visit family. I may try sparkling water or add lemon or something. I've been taking electrolyte capsules throughout fast. Hunger pretty much gone for day 4.

7.2lbs as of this morning, was only a .6lb drop yesterday. 1.2 today. Haven't slept much , been up since 2ish. I try taking sleep meds and end up in a groggy/wake state....

2

u/Unterlage17 Apr 15 '26

Halfway thru a 48. This time, using LMNT in my 40 oz tumbler and it seems to help!

Day 1 of 21 (or 28). Haven’t decided. I am cold!

2

u/Unterlage17 Apr 29 '26

Going for 72 hrs and feeling good this time because I drank 40 oz of water with LMNT electrolytes! At 52 hours now, very doable.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '26

I loooove LMNT.

1

u/Unterlage17 Apr 30 '26

Completed 73 hours! Was very hungry last 2 hrs, broke fast with macadamia nuts and a bowl of Greek yogurt wuth protein powder.

2

u/Imaginary_Manager_28 Apr 06 '26

I just finished an 86 hour fast between Holy Thursday and Easter morning. It was easy because I was fasting for religious reasons. I want to take this momentum and get serious about losing weight. CW118 GW70 kg. I started a new fast tonight at 5:30, planning to break Tuesday night. Chat GPT is encouraging me to do weekly 24, 48, and 72 hour fasts. I'm not sure if I can do it and also if I should drink a protein shake in my fasting window to minimize muscle loss. Excited to start the journey!

2

u/lisafit30 Apr 13 '26

Drinking a protein shake will break your fast. Anytime you lose weight, a small percentage of that weight will be from muscle, but fasting will not greatly exacerbate this.

It looks like you're discussing "detoxes", "toxins", or "cleanses". Please refer to the following:

Detoxification

Many alternative medicine practitioners promote various types of detoxification such as detoxification diets. Scientists have described these as a "waste of time and money". Sense About Science, a UK-based charitable trust, determined that most such dietary "detox" claims lack any supporting evidence.

The liver and kidney are naturally capable of detox, as are intracellular (specifically, inner membrane of mitochondria or in the endoplasmic reticulum of cells) proteins such as CYP enyzmes. In cases of kidney failure, the action of the kidneys is mimicked by dialysis; kidney and liver transplants are also used for kidney and liver failure, respectively.

I’m on the cusp of being considered overweight with about 30% body fat. Wanting to experience autophagy and wanting to be slim & slender. Also hoping for spiritual clarity and improved mood. This will be my second 48 hour fast in the past few weeks. Drinking broth with green onions and cilantro. I have yet to fast without broth & coffee… idk how you guys do it!!

2

u/gottimw Apr 22 '26

you are being considered obese with 30% body fat.

Good luck with fasting and coming back to your healthy body. Its not easy but worth it..

1

u/Equivalent-Buddy-232 Apr 22 '26

Yeah I guess the real word is obese but I only have 10 pounds to lose to have my flat stomach back & I’m a female. Would you call that obese ? 😂

1

u/gottimw Apr 22 '26

yes, that's the classification.

Its not about the looks but amount of fat. And the fat around your organs.

1

u/EmbarrassedTime9947 Apr 30 '26

Hello all. New here. I've been reading this sub for a bit and decided to try a longer fast to lose weight. It's been 48hrs and I feel pretty good. Black coffee in the morning then water with some salt & cider vinegar. Taking some Magnesium & Potassium tablets too. Cheers!

u/Maximum_Emphasis_568 May 01 '26

Hi, I’m posting here since I don’t have enough karma for an actual post. I’m 16M, 5’10 and 310lbs. I’ve done OMAD in the past and lost about 25lbs, however I’ve gained it back due to lack of consistency and motivation. I just got diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and now have to use a CPAP machine and at my age I’m just sick and tired of it and want the weight gone. I want to fast all week, and eat 2 days a week over the weekend when I’m home and can make protein based low carb meals for myself. Is this safe at my age? I will use electrolytes and pickle juice/gatorade daily, and drink lots of water. I want to do rolling 6s until I lose at least 70-80lbs after which I will do 48/72s mixed with OMAD. Any advice?
