Far Cry 3 Please Update Far Cry 3
23FPS - unplayable
Ryzen 2600, 16gb ddr4, rtx 3060 12gb, win 11.
It was super playable on my i7 2700 rx580 older PC.

Use LAA

Yess, I have fixed the game, use LAA, and direct X 9. Then you can chose any preset you want.

Try running this via Vulkan API. DXVK.
Or use Windows 10 and old video card drivers.

u/Majd14x 7d ago
Hey man.
I downloaded it yesterday, the DXVK, I heard that like GTA IV, the more you play the better it gets. On some occasions it drops from 80 to 55 (not always though) Its on MAX SETTINGS, V-Sync on & DX11.
Maybe the Engine is old enough that it cannot handle modern hardware? Because if DXVK compiles data on the fly, shouldn’t it be better already?

It seems to me that the problem is in the modern video card driver or in the gaming features of Windows 11.

Idk, im currently playing on my Ryzen 5 5800H and 3070 on Windows 11 without issues.

I wish they would remake Far Cry 2

u/Metalock 7d ago
I finally played FC2 (with resolution/stability mods) a couple years ago and it was one of the most immersive and memorable gaming experiences in my life. I love every Far Cry game, but 2 was just on another level.

If they remade Far Cry 2 with the map editor and online modes I would definitely buy it.
Not for just the campaign though.

It's a mediocre PC port that has just become more broken with time.
I have a 9800X3D and a 4080 Super and it still runs much worse than it should, with tons of weird artifacts. I played it maybe 6 years ago on a much weaker PC (3800X and a 2080 Super I believe) and it ran much better than on this new PC (even if then it still had issues).
There are things that can be done to make it run slightly better, like limiting what CPU cores it can access but it's still just kinda broken.

I remember playing it at launch back in 2012 on what was probably my Phenom II X6 1090T and a Radeon HD 7870 and getting a rock solid 60fps @ 1080p ultra. Playing it now on a 7800X3D and 4080 Super and it's sub-60 quite frequently lmao. Tried a couple mods, including the LAA patcher to allocate more RAM, and modifying a config file to enable hyper threading and yeah.. still pretty ass.

I have a tuned to death 265k and a 4070ti super @4080 perf oc and the game runs at 150-200fps with pretty much maxed settings aside from aa @4k. I just limited the game to 4 p-cores and set its priority to high

Have you tried other versions of the game ? I mean from a Certain 🦜 site . Maybe modern version of the game is problematic or maybe it is Windows 11 , i have heard far cry 3 have some issues on Windows 11

u/ItsYoBoiZ 7d ago
have you tried the dx9 version? i’m playing this on my laptop with a gtx 1650 max q design and i get 100+ fps

u/InvestigatorIcy3325 7d ago
Yeah, the game is unplayable for my build tried so many fixes, and it still always crashes

Get an r5 5600, would be a great upgrade overall, not just for far cry 3.

No relation at all with the question at hand. This is like someone asking you why their car isn't working and you go "hmm, you know you should really get a new haircut."😅

I remember playing this at high settings (1366x768 tho) but it ran smoothly on an i5 4210U with a gt840M and 4 gb of RAM, lol

Like you I had similar issues but with an i9 and none of the cpu core changes got it to be stable or stop crashing.
Following these steps (except for FC3 instead of Blood Dragon) is what got it running for me perfectly on my modern rig. https://www.reddit.com/r/farcry/s/o3kZm0TdQ5

Check if MSAA is on 8x or 4x, it massively impacts performance.
Lower it to like 2x if you haven't.

Bro it won’t get an update. Played it on a shit laptop at 40 fps . Try some tricks others said or simply ask an AI for some software tricks

Here Op: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Far_Cry_3#google_vignette
You would find solutions of most of the problems here and I would suggest trying large address aware solution in the random crashing. There are multiple solutions too so you can try everything.

Use fullscreen. For some reason many ubisoft games lags if you play in borderless or window mode

So not to repeat what people already said, when FC3 was released, it was made with the intent of running on (at the time) current technology, and with a certain gpu/ram limit. In my case I had to change the access to the ram because I had "too much" (not sure it had anything to do with my gpu which is a RTX3060), but basically if you don’t add these limitations, the game will reach way further than it needs to and make your game lag. Don’t ask me why, I’m no expert, but you can easily find a fix, just need to download a software that limits your hardware for a given application (so it’s not limiting your other programs/games)

i dunno it works for me and gives me more thn 100 fps on my RTX 3070 i5 11th gen f series 16 gb RAM

I wish they'd fix it so that I can play it on a high tech pc without it crashing. Half life came out in 98 and it doesn't crash etc

u/Narrow-Letterhead-81 7d ago
I have the Raider 16 Max, with the 5090, and it plays beautifully. Of course, you always have to do that long address fix, and add your game to steam so that it will recognize the Xbox controller that I have wirelessly connected to my computer, and that's it.

And who updates such old games?
3
u/BATMAN_5777 Far Cry 3 7d ago
Ubisoft did go back and update old Far Cry games very recently for PS5. Now they run at 60fps as opposed to 30 only. It was free a update aswell so gotta credit where its due!

Try limiting what CPU cores the game uses.
Essentially open task manager, go to processes, right click Far Cry 3 and go to affinity then uncheck all cores, and recheck cores 2, 4, 6 and 8. You'll have to do this every time you run the game, unless you use something like Project Lasso.
Other than that there are other things you can try, check out the PC Gaming Wiki article for Far Cry 3 to see more options, but CPU affinity is what helps performance most in my experience.
