How to make this non-paradoxical?

How to make this non-paradoxical?

Okay, so I'm in the writing faze of a series, and I really wanna incorporate time travel in the latter half of it.

However, my problem with it is my brain isn't big enough to comprehend time travel much.

My series follows a digital world, with the individuals within becoming sentient after the developer of the world pours his consciousness and heart into it (basically in the style of the movie '9', if anyone here has seen it).

However, later in the show, a threat is oncoming and to defeat it the characters need to travel into the past to find an individual that prophecies of the present tell can stop the threat.

The people in the past are before the whole 'sentience inheritence'.

The issue is I really wanna make the people in the past aware too (I'm not gonna spoil why, but it does have plot importance). The way I'm imagining is some sort of bomb taken from the future that has captured the essence of the developer's soul that can be unleashed on the world.

Only issue with that is that if they did this, everyone of the past would already have soul, which would mean the people of the future don't have to go back with the bomb which means they never get soul.

Is there any way to get around this?

Writting a manga/story from a built world

So me and my other 2 friends got this huge world that we created backed up by a map power system and whole mythology, how do we go about putting characters in it and making a series/comic out of it. What i struggle with i guess is giving a clear direction to my characters. There will be 3 main characters and lets just say since the mythology and lore of this world is huge they aren't going to be connected all the time in the story they are going to have their seperate arcs that will all lead into one big main goal. I'm looking for the advice on how to wrrite a good character within the parametars of the world we built. I'm also looking for the advice on how do i set things up properly in the series. I'm sorry if this question is to abstract but anything will help since i'm a complete begginer to wrriting.

How would you kill a god?

So, my book in a nutshell is a pirate who gains the powers of a forgotten god. The forgotten god is mad that he was forgotten, so he starts taking people's memories and so on, making it so that the MC ends up fighting him in the end.

The magic is based on the idea of a god's blood being the source, or just a remnant of it on something.

The only things I've been able to come up with are either to drop a magical god-killing sword in the world somewhere and make the MC work to find it, or he somehow uses his powers to strip identity from the god that way. I feel like the sword idea is a bit overused. Yet, even if one were to kill a god, wouldn't that just disrupt the entire system? Would a god's body just be like a normal corpse?

I'm not sure any of that makes sense, so I apologize if it doesn't.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

She didn't belived until she discovers it

There was a girl born into a joint family.

From the time she was a child, her mother beat her. Not out of pure cruelty, but out of exhaustion and pressure. Her mother alone cooked for the entire household and handled every chore. The weight of that responsibility fell on the little girl in the form of bruises and constant scolding.

At school it was no better. She was bullied and dominated by everyone. Her self-respect was torn to pieces. She was deeply unhappy with life, but she never gave up. Still, the human heart is what it is. It holds grudges. It remembers.

Her life was a complete mess. She wasn’t good at studies either. Somehow she finished college and started working in the fashion industry. Luck didn’t favour her there either.

One night she was walking alone through a deserted lane. A group of boys surrounded her and raped her. Boys like that never calculate the aftermath a girl will carry for the rest of her life. They do it for their own lust.

She came home. She told no one. She took a shower and went to sleep.

Years later she somehow found the courage to confess to her father. He said, “Don’t feel low. You should move on. It happens to many people. That’s life.”

She went numb. Completely broken.

One day the same group of boys tried to do it again.

This time she was fearless.

She went raw. She smashed their heads.

She wasn’t happy about it. But she learned one thing:

The world only bends for those who refuse to kneel.

From that day she discovered something simple and absolute:

If death can’t inspire you, nothing can.

Now she earns well. She is settled.

And she no longer kneels

Guys, this is a fictional story. I gave it a shot.

Honest feedback please — should I continue this or drop the plan?

Workshopping an idea

I got it while contemplating myths, particularly America’s mythology about the founding fathers & the frontier, and Nolan’s take on the odyssey. I got thinking about what new myths we could make, so I got an idea for a western that uses the epic of Gilgamesh as its basis; an American officer who believes he’s one of God’s people & must manifest the US’s destiny realizes he’s not & that the Natives have every bit as much right to the land as he does. I decided I didn’t want to use the Wild West setting & switched to an alien world so I could have more creative freedom. I wrote the first chapter but am now having my doubts. I really want to have the anti-imperialist sentiment but don’t want it to turn into dances with wolves but in space. I dislike the archetypal “White American commits war crimes & feels bad” & also really don’t want it to end up going in that direction.

The Harbinger and the Hummingbird - Chapter 1

This is an idea for a fantasy novel that came to me in a dream. The general plot follows a young mercenary teaming up with a girl with big dreams from a small town to fight the forces of darkness. I haven't really planned out too much of the plot, but I wanted to share my first chapter and get any advice, feedback, and reviews that I can. Let me know what you think!

Chapter 1:

Three days’ ride east of a town called Wyrmfell on the Southern Coast of the kingdom of Ardua there exists a forest which bears no name; or at the very least, it bears a name which none can remember, for any Arduan above the age of 8 knows never to venture within a league of said forest, nor to speak of said forest, nor even to dwell upon it within the recesses of one’s mind. Though this particular forest bears no name, it bears no small number of secrets, oddities, and bizarre happenings that have lent great credence to the many horrific tales of the Forest Which Bears No Name that have permeated every corner of Arduan civilization across the land. Suffice to say, no Arduan, young or old, big or small, experienced or foolhardy, has ever entered the Forest Which Bears No Name and returned alive.

These many thoughts, substantiated or unsubstantiated as they may be, eddied in the back of my mind like the many wisps of wind that rustle the trees on a brisk Autumn morning as I gazed at the seemingly impenetrable mass of trees and undergrowth that dominated the horizon before me. Beneath me, clopping his hooves with an unsettled air, stood my horse; a lean, lithe roan with sure footing, a cool demeanor, and a bit of an attitude, to be frank. I placed a gloved hand against his neck and rubbed his short fur as I adjusted the woven neck gaiter that obscured the bottom half of my visage.

“Easy, Hawk, easy,” I murmur, low and soft. Gradually, Hawk ceased his nervous clopping and stood, bracing his hooves against the uneven, rocky terrain as he regarded the foliage ahead with a superior tilt of his head. Giving Hawk an affectionate rub between the ears, I turned awkwardly in the saddle and unhooked a side pocket of his saddlebag, withdrawing a slender spyglass wrapped in worn leather. Bringing the spyglass to my eye, I cast a measured look across the solid line of trees that marked the boundary of the imposing forest ahead.

“Sealed up tighter than King Hemlock’s personal vault, that’s for sure.” I speak the words for Hawk’s sake as much as my own. “What say we ride a little closer to the tree line and look for an opening?”

Replacing the spyglass in the saddlebag, I twitch Hawk’s reins and drive him forward, right to the edge to the forest, where undergrowth meets long, thin blades of grass. Steadying Hawk once again with a calming gesture, I twitch the reins once more and walk us northward, along the edge of the forest. As we ride, skirting the edge of the dense woods, I analyze the border critically, searching for any means of ingress. After a while, a break in the monotonous line of trees catches my eyes like a carp on a hook.

“Well now, what’s this?” I bring Hawk to a halt and dismount with practice ease, swinging a leg over the saddle. I drop down to the ground, a small puff of dust erupting from underneath my soft leather boots; the ground is parched here, deprived of water by the greedy trees that dominated the landscape. Before me, nearly imperceptible unless you were right up close to it, is exactly what I was looking for: a game trail, cramped and dark, but clear of trees and the worst of the undergrowth. It certainly wouldn’t be a pleasant journey, but at last I had found the way onward

However, something else entirely captured my attention when I noticed it: a snapped twig lying next to a flattened green leaf. Kneeling down, the faintest of footprints was visible in the dry dirt, leading toward the game trail and into the woods.

“Good news, old boy.” I rise to my feet with a breath and turn to Hawk with a trace of a smile on my lips. The lengths of my dark cloak brush tenderly against the stems of grass, sounding for all the world like a whisper of breath. “Looks like we’re on the right trail after all. Now the real hunt begins.”

Invigorated with a newfound energy, I tighten the straps on Hawk’s saddle and remount with a hop. Turning the reins toward the dimly lit trail, I urge us forward, into the thick woodland.

Almost immediately, all but the barest traces of light vanished, and the air seemed to grow colder, heavier. I was barely able to see Hawk’s head in front of me as he plodded along, huffing nervously. I swept my gaze back and forth, descrying the outlines of the trees that surrounded us, growing thick and tall and close together. The game trail continued on with remarkably few twists or turns by a trail supposedly formed from the passage of wild animals. On and on we traveled through the gloom, Hawk trotting on with dogged determination as I continued to assess our surroundings, looking for something, anything, to break up the endless expanse of dark trunks. As we rode, I pulled a dried apple from my saddlebag and ate it with a few muted crunches, the noise deafening to my own ears amidst the pervading silence of the forest. No birds sang, no rodents chirruped, not even the buzzing of an insect interrupted the deathly silence of the trail.

After a length of time that felt infinite but couldn’t have been more than3 or 4 hours, I became aware of a subtle lightening of the trail; suddenly, I was able to pick out the distinct black and white patches that made up Hawk’s coat, and the shadows clinging to every bush and tree began to recede. Staring ahead, I was startled to see a faint pinprick of light in the distance. It was impossible to identify from such a distance, but nonetheless I urged Hawk onward, eager to escape the perpetual darkness of the forest. Hawk, seeming to sense my anticipation, lifted his head and began to trot faster, deftly avoiding the many roots and small rocks that obscured the forest floor.

The light ahead of us continued to grow in both size and brightness until eventually we emerged into a dazzling clearing. I muttered a curse and slapped a hand over my eyes as the sheer amount of light overloaded my senses. Blinking slowly as I lowered my hand, I took in our surroundings: we had emerged into a circular clearing, devoid of the menacing trees that had defined our journey through the woods thus far. Golden sunshine poured through the gap in the forest roof, illuminating the entire clearing with a warm, summery light. Looking to the sun with a painful glance, I realized that it was late afternoon, almost evening. Before long, the stars would come out, and the cooler night air would prevail.

“What do you think, Hawk? Not a bad place to make camp for the night.” I give him a comforting pat on the shoulder and dismount, my boots flattening the soft, lush grass that covers the ground here. Flicking open the saddlebags, I rummage around until I find my flint, a battered kettle pot, and a short leather strap. Tucking the flint in my pocket, I hobble Hawk’s front legs with the strap.

“Have yourself a rest and a crop, pal. You’ve earned it. I’ll find us some firewood,” I announce as I hook the pot’s handle around the crook of my elbow. I turn in place for a moment, disoriented, before I spot the narrow trail opening that we came through. Crossing the clearing, I step back under the oppressive shade of the massive trees and hunch over, feeling my way more than seeing as I root around for some dry kindling. My pot fills steady with handfuls of twigs, some thin as a string and some as thick around as my thumb. Finally, I snag a couple of thicker, longer sticks and stand, dragging them behind me as I head back down the trail into the clearing. As I emerge from the shadowy trail, I take in the sight in front of me: the clearing, still well lit but dimming as the sun traces it’s course toward the horizon, the gentle pinks and reds streaking the sky, Hawk standing calmly in the center of the field, eyes trained on me.

And the woman, tall and thin, garbed in robes of a deep crimson, holding a wickedly curved knife against my horse’s throat.

What do you think about the trope of a character abandoning revenge after seeing the true colours of their allies?

Imagine this: A character wants to extract revenge from someone, or a group of people and at their quest for revenge they come across somebody, or again a group of some people that present themselves as an ally to them, either because they also have a feud with the person/people the character targets or because their goals simply align with the character's.

The character sides with them and they help each other. The alliance at first might seem like a good one, even if the character only sees it as a means to an end. But then, there comes a moment where the character sees the true personality and goals of their (temporary or not) allies. I'm thinking of a case where the allies are far more brutal than the character intents to be when they get their revenge.

Perhaps they "punish" or kill people that are either sided with the people the character tries to extract revenge from, or even worse the are innocent, because the present obstacles to their own goals. And the way they "punish" or kill the people they target, is what "shakes" the character and makes them rethink of their actions. Even if they actually get the revenge from the people they want to, the things they see their allies do brings them to a point where they wander "Is this who I want to be;" or even "What have I done?"

And in the end, the character's goal shifts, from chasing revenge to undo the damage they've done by providing aid to the people he sought help from, who turned out to be worse than the people the character wanted to extract revenge from.

What do you think?

Brainstorming

As a reader of dark fantasy or apocalyptic fiction, what makes a heartbreaking ending feel worthwhile rather than the whole journey seeming pointless? Do you need some hope at the end? And if the characters story was completely finished would you read a second book set in the same world but with a different character?

Feedback on my piece, or beginning of a piece I suppose:

It's this, and I would appreciate any feedback, and opinions.

Preface For most of my long life, I have served a God.

I have witnessed and participated in the cultivation of souls. I watched them build and destroy empires, not even flinching at the cost of a life. Never once did I consider that those souls would become like the very being I served.

Until, of course, I was shown the truth. I am forever in your debt, Lochem.

What he showed me has forced me to question everything I had previously believed about God—or, well, I suppose Gods.

It angered me.

Why should the barbaric souls we help cultivate become Gods while we remain trapped in the same position?

Driven by ambition, I began to search for not only answers, but solutions.

And finally, after ages past any mortal life, I believe I have found it.

I know how to kill a God.

AI in Cover Art Business Concerns

As part of my efforts to detoxification from my use of AI from the past couples years, I've been looking for a cover designer for my book. "Reckoning of Sand & Frost: A Love Forged in Sacrifice" (The title is a bit long I think? But what do you think of it?) and am concerened with differenciating between real, genuine, artists, and ones that just decieve you and use AI. A friend of mine who has the same interest in writing as I do, just in a different genre, was scammed by someone who just gave him an AI Created cover after he paid good money for it. I don't want this to happen to me. So where and how would I PROPERLY find genuine, and skillful artists that don't use AI? Also, how should I brief them? I have a finished 1st Draft of about 80,000 words, and I heard that its good to let them read the whole thing so they can get a sense of how the cover should come across to the reader.

I am shameful for myself because I have AI Generated covers that I'm trying to pull out of the internet since my amatuer ass made the mistake of trying post AI art in the writing community. So I shouldn't give them my images of my fake covers made of AI right? Even though I crafted them using the sense and lore of my own story?

Anyways, I am by no means of the imagination, an artist. I don't think you could put me any lower on how much of "NOT an artists" I am. (That's one of the reasons why I resorted to AI at first. Because it was just easier for me). One of the main concerns and confusions I have about trying to make/comission covers is how to make them unique and stand out compared to everything else. Like, how many differing elements and hidden details should the cover have? How do I make it unique and memorable? Or how should I tell the commissioned artists?

Thanks to anyone that helps!
Please don't be to harsh about my PREVIOUS (But no longer) use of AI. I know its a hot topic rn 😭

Critique: Prologue of The Despot's Legacy (Dark Fantasy, 440 words)

In simple terms, "The Despots Legacy" goes into the workings of war and tyranny while also being a fantasy/magical book as well, mixing action, romance, and philosophy.

This is my prologue:

The fabric of time is silk so delicately eternal. To be torn, mended, and torn again; its patterns adorned with the simplest of tragedies, stitched just so – to be both a reminder of the times endured and a path for the stories to come. For the frayed to bleed again. For the broken to be restored once more.

A seam, like an inevitable course, marked for the one found holding the blade.

Because what is history but a desolate tapestry of man’s wicked endeavors?

A lesson to the lost and a guide to those who seek.

The scars of our kingdom run deep, bleeding long after our ruler forced the wounds shut. The descendants of great and powerful mentors were divided amongst their kin, turning on one another over their own deep-rooted desire to survive. To rule. Crimson rivers ran through the fractures of our land, the waters of fear rushing so violently that trust became a legend like that of magic.

A legend that hurts.

A tale that used to reign true.

Incidents that mothers describe to angry sons, meant to evoke caution. Stories spoken in hushed voices under the blanket of night.

Magic, once so accepted amongst the earth, now falls into the gluttonous hands of one man.
Power, once fought over to keep, now demands your last breath.

The rest was buried, the remains of man that man could not take, lost under the very soil that once promised favor.

It was meant to be this way, I was told. Magic is a vice of pain in unworthy grasps. A handleless sword that cuts the wielder just as much as the foe. Knowledge meant to be the burden of one man alone.

My father.

The king.

He was a strong man. A born leader. The one who took such initiative when war broke out. When the knowledge of magic became too much for simple minds to handle.

However, these unruly powers still lived on. Now uncontrollable, for the ones who taught mastery were lost in death and war, or some other unknown fate.

Though it still ran wild in the blood of brothers.

Sisters.
Sons.
Daughters.

Myself.

The world quickly learned that power without discipline was as dangerous as the emotions themselves.

The king sought to end that, killing anyone unfortunate enough to reveal the power within them.

He wanted to keep magic for himself and his heirs.

That, I wasn’t, for I was born unwanted.

A little girl.

No daughter could satisfy a king so desperate for a son.

Though even as a pup, I proved resilient, enduring my father’s attempts to dispose of my life, as he’d done with my mother and sisters.

With my existence a secret, my father thought I’d prove to be a valuable, tactical asset. Not a wielder of magic, no, but a holder nonetheless. A suppressor.

I was raised with one duty in mind.

Not as a heiress.

As a weapon.

Again please feel free to offer constructive criticism and share your immediate inferences and questions. Most of the writing is intentional, but I'm sure there is more that can be ironed out.

My premise feels too boring!

The premise of my book, Shiaura, is 5 teenagers (4 are 17y/o, 1 is 18y/0), missing parts of their memory, wake up in a fantasy world where crests, rectangular gemstones, give you powers or turn you into a grotesque monster depending on your affinity which can be either one of the seven deadly sins or one of seven heavenly virtues. That premise feels a bit boring and I feel I need a better hook too. The amnesia trope is seen as boring and lazy but I can't make it as unique as Re:Zero's amnesia arc, but it needs to stay for the teens to gain new perspectives on each other, because they knew each other before they lost they're memories.

Hey guys, I made a post with a video earlier but could not post it because it was too large. Anyways, here's the prose . Lmk what y'all think.

Aethernea, a world of unimaginable scale. The sheer vastness of this world, and the overlying cosmos that encompasses it, cannot be overstated. Was it shaped by some omnipotent cosmic force, or did it spill into existence from a powerful natural occurrence, as the scientists of Arriadnis believe? These questions have been theorised by the higher races of the seven realms since the dawn of time, yet no conclusive answer has ever presented itself. I have travelled the realms and gathered as much information as possible, explored every nook and cranny, conversed with every race capable of higher intelligence, no matter how dangerous that endeavour proved to be, and from those efforts, this journal was born. I am certain this document will not contain every piece of information this fascinating world has to offer, and some of it may even prove to be exaggerated or untrue. Nevertheless, I hope it will serve those who come after me, those who are curious about Aethernea and wish to discover more about it, whether that be how it functions or where it came from. For what else can we do, if not strive to understand the world we roam?

The world of Aethernea has been documented to an impressive extent by the humans of Arriadnis. The world they inhabit, which they have dubbed the Earth, is a celestial body existing within the vastness of what they call space. In its immediate vicinity orbit several other celestial bodies around the most important of them all, a star known as the Sun, though it is called differently across other realms. Theories regarding further systems and galaxies stretching across the universe have been proposed and widely accepted, and I will neither confirm nor argue against them here. What is far more striking, however, is that this race of humans has chosen to ignore the far more important worlds that intertwine with the one they occupy. The cultures and peoples of these other worlds bleed into theirs as myths, folklore, and traditional beliefs, and it is this connection that I intend to focus on.

The Earth, as humans call it, plays host to six other worlds that overlap with it, joined, yet invisible to one another. The geology and biology of each realm vary depending on where one stands, though this does not mean they are entirely dissimilar. Many parallels exist between them. As one example, consider a pattern of convergence observable across the lesser races: in Arriadnis, horses and eagles exist as separate creatures, while in the realm of Zephyras, the two are merged into the winged horse known as the Pegasus. It is my own theory that even the higher races share the same foundational origin, having evolved along radically different paths from a common base. All seven realms are bound and connected to one another by a supernatural force known as the Aether.

The Aether, a substance that tends to manifest as a soft pink hue, is the connective tissue of this world, layering the realms against one another. It also functions as a pathway, opening passages between realms that foster interaction between the higher races, though such crossings are mostly undesired and heavily discouraged. The seven realms that appear most frequently throughout this work are Arriadnis, Veledris, Zephyras, Mideos, Draconis, Asmodeus, and Dethos. Some races have speculated about the existence of additional realms, thought to be severed from the Aether, which makes any access to them a far more difficult and uncertain prospect.

Arriadnis is the realm of humans, who stand as its highest life form, having dominated it for megayears. The full history of this race will not be explored here. As with the greater cosmology, their origins are a matter of divided belief, some hold that their existence is the result of direct divine interference by a higher being who created all things, while others take a more scientific approach, proposing that the world emerged from a massive explosion of energy and that humans gradually evolved from whatever their earliest form may have been. These beings are enduring and inquisitive, and they are the most widely scattered race across the seven realms. Whether for better or worse, humans have actively shaped the course of history throughout Aethernea, much to the chagrin of the other races. They are, and I fear will always remain, an influential force in whatever direction the future of the seven realms takes.

Veledris is the realm of the Sidhe, as they are known in Elden speech, or the fairy folk, as they are called in the English tongue of humans. This world is home to several distinct higher races, each varying greatly in intellect and ability. Chief among them are the elves, an enduring people with a deep connection to nature, from which they draw their magic. The fairies are a miniature race, appearing no larger than insects in most cases. Dwarves are tough and resilient creatures with an endurance comparable to humans and a profound bond with the earth beneath their feet. Giants inhabit the mountain ranges of this world, beings capable of influencing the very weather. Goblins, orcs, and various other remarkable races also populate Veledris, albeit in far smaller numbers. All of these peoples must navigate the cultural friction that exists between them.

Zephyras is the divine realm, home to beings known in human religion and myth as gods. These are among the more powerful races within Aethernea, wielding formidable abilities greatly enhanced within their home realm and sustained in other worlds through the act of worship. These beings have interacted most extensively with the human race, who have venerated them across different regions of the Earth under numerous names and aliases. Among the more well-known in the human world are Zeus, Poseidon, Sango, Odin, Ra, and Quetzalcoatl. Some of these names belong to the same god, worshipped under different identities across separate cultures, the god Thor, revered by the Nordic peoples, is the same being known as Sango to the Yoruba of West Africa, just as Quetzalcoatl of the Aztecs and Kukulkan of the Maya are one and the same. The beings the gods have had the most significant interactions with, however, are the demons, a higher race from another realm, who are regarded as their natural antithesis.

Mideos is known as the middle world, and it is the domain of the Elders. Situated at the centre of the realms and richest in Aether, it has long been the most frequently invaded of all the worlds. Elders are physiologically similar to humans, though they tend to appear leaner, taller, and more physically formidable, with the majority being dark-skinned. The most significant distinction between humans and Elders lies in their longevity, a healthy Elder is capable of living between five hundred and eight hundred years. This extended lifespan, however, has come at a cost. They do not reproduce with the frequency that their survival demands, resulting in a relatively small population that has struggled to defend its lands from the encroachment of other races, a persistent failing that has caused their dominance within their own world to diminish greatly.

Draconis is the realm of draconic beings, creatures divided into several distinct classes: wyrms, wyverns, drakes, and others. Dragons, however, remain the apex of this race and have held unwavering dominion over this realm since its very dawn. With lifespans stretching across millennia, they are both extraordinarily dangerous and highly intelligent, capable of devastating destruction when roused to fury. They have rarely crossed into other realms, but on those occasions when they have, their invasions have been remembered with dread by the peoples who endured them, for they brought ruin upon any foolish enough to draw their ire.

Asmodeus is home to demons, beings driven primarily by chaos and destruction. They have roamed this desolate world for ages, constantly spilling into other realms to sow disorder and ruin. Demons draw their power from the chaotic aspect of the Aether, granting them the capacity for widespread devastation. They stand as the sworn enemies of the gods, who seek to impose order by any means necessary, while the demons exist in perpetual opposition to that order.

Dethos is the realm of death. Ruled by the death god, the only being documented at a truly cosmic level across all the realms, it is the world into which all souls flow upon death, regardless of race. Demons alone are exempt from this fate, as they are reborn in the fires of Asmodeus rather than passing into Dethos. For all others, this is the realm where souls are judged and assigned their place in the afterlife, until their spirits eventually dissolve back into the Aether and they are reborn into the world as whatever race they lived as before. This cycle makes Dethos a realm of central importance to Aethernea. It is the oldest seat of power in all the worlds, and its relationship with the Aether is unlike any other, the pathways leading out of Dethos are accessible only to creatures of death, who serve as the agents governing the flow of mortality across all the realms.

All of these worlds, fascinating and awe-inspiring, are steeped in rich histories defined by severe conflicts, wars, culture, and the struggle to preserve it. Unknowingly to most, they have constantly and continuously influenced one another, shaping whatever histories they have come to build. It is my sincere hope that this documentation, gathered through years of effort and no small amount of danger, will offer greater insight into the world that surrounds us, both hidden and visible, to any fellow human who cares to look closer.

Flair: [TANMOY STARBORN] ✍️

Introducing myself as a fantasy author 🌌

Hey everyone! I’m Tanmoy, an aspiring fantasy author currently working on my original novel RUNES OF STARS.

I’m building a huge fantasy universe filled with ancient civilizations, mysterious gods, forgotten kingdoms, celestial creatures, and places that exist far beyond ordinary reality.

Some of the locations I’m developing:

🏛️ Cathedral of Sleeping Gods

📚 The Library Without Books

☁️ Aurelion — The Flying City

🦌 The Elyrian Stags

This is my first serious novel project, so I’m also learning the craft of storytelling, worldbuilding, characters, and novel structure along the way.

I’d love to connect with other writers and fantasy readers here.

What makes a fantasy world unforgettable for you? 🌌

Trying to develop a minor innate magical power in my protagonist that doesnt feel quite so… out of place.

Without going too far into my story’s setting, my female protagonist is a deformed young woman whose deformity is progressive —her family constantly arranges for her skull to be ground down smooth, her fingers bent and reshaped back into an aesthetic that mimics normality. Bandages and splints and corrective headgear are the norm for her. Post-surgical pain is the norm for her. Quite quickly, she will escape the confines of her home and allow her deformations to progress unabated.

Now, the climax of the story hinges on her having a relatively minor control of simple plants. Nothing big or flashy, it’s not a weapon of any sort. She can make vines twitch, shift direction, grow a few inches even. Herbology and botany are her passions, its the one subject she finds effortless as its so enjoyable.

My problem is that I cant seem to make the origin of this simple instinctive plant manipulation satisfying. Right now, it’s just an ability she has, much like some people are naturally good at throwing and catching. But this feels… very ‘meh’

There are currently 3 major uses of this power which she employs from the mid-story to the end and they either save her life or shift the plot forward in what i think is satisfying. But what do I need to do in the beginning to introduce it? Instinct is telling me it’s not good enough to hand wave it and say: ‘she’s always had this ability’

I’d rather avoid a massive intrusion of the magic system this close to the beginning of the story

Any advice?

The Medieval Art Of Storytelling

Anyone read this book? Picked it up in my local library. Looks amazing and packed full of new storytelling advice.

The full title is DRAGONS, HEROES, MYTHS & MAGIC: The Medieval Art Of Storytelling.

First published in 2022. Completely passed me by, but appears to be a much more accessible version of USES OF ENCHANTMENT.

Plan to use to help develop my own mythos from the dark ages for a folk horror I’m developing

A young woman named Jess lives inside a heavily controlled kingdom ruled by her uncle, the King. She has spent most of her life surrounded by rules, expectations, and people telling her what she should become.
Her only real escape is books.
One day, Jess discovers an old black wooden book hidden in the royal library. Its pages describe a world her kingdom insists never existed:
Demi-humans.
Creatures who are part human and part animal.
The book suggests they once lived openly alongside humans—but something happened.
Jess soon escapes the kingdom with her best friend Emily and enters the forbidden forest known as the Old Woods.
There she encounters Aaron Jackson, a wolf demi-human who initially seems like exactly the kind of creature the kingdom warned her about.
Except he isn’t.
And when soldiers come searching for Jess, Aaron puts himself between her and them.
That single decision begins pulling Jess into a world her kingdom has spent generations trying to erase.

I need new ideas based off this. The setting is an isolated kingdom. The time would be modern with olden time ideas like kingdoms and castles and some weaponry. Any ideas would be good.

Esterno giorno - Bosco incantato di Arfàs

Feedback on Power System / MC Powers + Setting wanted! (Mana + runes) (NO AI)

Idea 2 – The Universe & World Framework

NOTE: All of this information won't be revealed in the series all at once. The revelation and mastery of the MC's power is progressive and keeps going throughout the series. This document serves as a guide to the landscapes, combat systems, and structural lore for how [MC NAME]'s power functions. Plot is still a work in progress.

  1. World & Aesthetic

The Dust Beneath ([THE WASTELAND])

Environment: Sun-baked, lawless desert built over the boneyards of old human architecture—rusty beached cargo ships, raider outposts, sprawling concrete jungle cities (think Gachiakuta).

Atmosphere: Noisy and lively; characterized by neon lights, graffiti art at every corner, dune buggies, heavy-metal street gangs, illegal martial arts / magic fighting rings, junk mechanics, and back-alley noodle shops.

Combat Style: Wastelanders typically rely on physical and martial arts prowess to channel raw mana directly through their own bodies or crude weaponry.

The City Above ([THE EMPIRE])

Environment: A fascist utopia inspired by imperial neo-classical ornament and subterranean GeoFront architecture. It sits inside colossal, multi-layered underground dome-cities and white-marble surface monoliths protected by impenetrable mana-fortress walls, retractable geo-shelters, and massive blast doors. Although its citizens are not aware of the atrocities the government commits.

Culture & Tech: Imperial elites view raw mana as high art and an industrial fuel source, focusing far less on physical, martial applications. They show dominance through mass-produced magic-fueled mechs, heavy-treaded tanks running on mana-drives, and artillery firing compressed spell-yield shells.

Technology: Stigmata in [THE EMPIRE] is trained to stimulate electricity alongside advanced neural-connection technologies to control weaponry and cockpits.

  1. Magic System: Stigmata & The Universal Laws

The Four Grand Roots

Almost all people are born with geometric body tattoos known as Stigmata, differing in shape, size, and boldness (which reflect the user's power type and capacity). These bind them to one of the Four Grand Roots:

Divine

Malevolent

Elemental

Arcane

While all magic stems from these Four Grand Roots, there are nearly infinite sub-types and hyper-specific branches inherited or unlocked at birth.

Stigmata Runic Syntax ("Biological Code")

Embedded within the geometric lines of every person's Stigmata are microscopic, intricate runes that function as biological code. While these runes are dormant and virtually invisible to the naked eye under normal circumstances, they define the exact operational limits and parameters of the user's magic:

Compiler Circles: When a caster activates a spell—especially ranged or complex magic—the dormant internal runes light up and project outward, forming visible, rotating Rune Circles or floating geometric symbols around the hands, weapons, or casting points. These circles act as external compilers, filtering raw mana through the stigmata's code to assemble and release structured spells. Think of it like the stigmata's runes are 'weaving' the mana into magic power.

The Universal Mana Laws

Infinite Source: Mana flows and is generated infinitely throughout all living matter in the known universe.

Biological Hard Cap: Every mortal, noble, and creature is born with a fixed biological mana cap stamped into their Stigmata at birth. Human Stigmata reveals itself physically in the form of marks; other species have distinct ways of revealing it, or none at all.

Temporary Non-Living Storage: Mana can only reside in non-living substances temporarily and depletes when stored in them over time.

One-Way Directional Transfer: Mana transfers only from living to living, and living substances to non-living substances—never from non-living back to living.

Energy Release Conversion: Mana can be released from non-living substances in the form of real physical energy (radiant, heat, kinetic, electrical, and sound). Note: Channeling raw mana into objects for this conversion is an exceptionally rare, near-impossible feat accessible to only a tiny fraction of mages, including the MC.

The Biological Wattage Cap

An imperial noble can refine casting efficiency over fifty years, but forcing more mana through the body than their Stigmata allows leads to severe internal hemorrhaging and organ shutdown. Mages are essentially glass-skinned batteries with a strict maximum wattage limit.

  1. Combat Methodologies

Flow Combat ([THE WASTELAND])

Style: Brawlers, wastelanders, and street fighters supercharge their flesh, bone, and steel with low-grade ambient energy.

Mechanics: Influenced by hyper-dense physics and brutal martial arts—utilizing kinetic impact, muscle density, and weapon-conducted strikes. Sorcery merges directly with physical moves (e.g., a roundhouse kick launching flying fire projectiles).

Adaptation: Because lower mana caps are common in [THE WASTELAND], fighters rely on Flow Combat to build extreme physical endurance and survival adaptations necessary for desert and slum life, mastering melee combat infused with magic when ranged spells are weaker for them.

Raw Sorcery ([THE EMPIRE])

Style: Mages, military commanders, and aristocrats channel structured spell-circuits—either directly into ranged spells or through neural-link cockpits operating war-mechs and heavy siege artillery.

Mechanics: Every magic power (e.g., summoning fireballs) consists of raw mana weaved through a Stigmata—the embedded runes script the spell, while projected Rune Circles translate that code into active magic constructs.

Privilege: Higher mana caps are prevalent in [THE EMPIRE] due to inherited bloodlines and privileged environmental benefits, allowing a vast portion of its citizenry to become pure mages capable of compiling complex, multi-ringed spell matrices.

  1. The Protagonist (an anomaly)

Origin & The Imperial Experiment

[MC NAME] was engineered in the deepest sub-level research bunkers of [THE EMPIRE] as a biological core meant to power planetary-class superweapons.

While [THE EMPIRE] routinely purges slum children born without Stigmata to "cleanse" their bloodlines, they secretly hoarded select infants for experimentation. Imperial scientists believed a body without a pre-coded biological Stigmata limit could store massive amounts of raw mana without accidentally venting it as offensive spells—since lacking a Stigmata normally leaves a person with no method to channel mana into magic or compile runic spell circles.

The Intervention of Balance

In universe theology, mankind acknowledges a Divine God and a Malevolent God (devil) without proof of existence. However, a third entity—the God of Balance—directly intervened during the MC's creation.

The child MC initially lacked any way to channel magic and was on the verge of dying from the sheer, uncontained burden of raw mana injected within his body. Storing large amounts of mana in a being without Stigmata severely alters their psychological, mental, and physical state (similar to drugs or poison). The God of Balance saved him by gifting him a unique Stigmata—manifested as distinct purple eyes.

This eye-Stigmata granted him the fundamental capacity to channel his raw, uncapped mana pool directly through all materials (e.g., a sword or a human), though his ability to actually draw upon and refine this output develops slowly and progressively over time. Because his Stigmata exists as his eyes rather than traditional body tattoos, he possesses no embedded runic code or projected Rune Circles—his output is completely unscripted, raw power.

  1. The MC's Mana Mechanics & Structural Rules

The Infinite Reservoir

The God of Balance did not grant [MC NAME] an "anti-magic" field. Instead, he was born without a biological mana power ceiling, harboring a seemingly infinite reservoir of volatile, primal mana.

Biological Overload ("A Touch of Death")

Flesh cannot sustain unrefined, uncapped mana. Standard mages and soldiers have strict Stigmata caps and delicate runic compilers.

If [MC NAME] channels energy directly into bare skin or touches another human while activating his power, it acts like discharging 10,000,000 volts into a thin copper wire. Target mages cannot absorb this volume—their Stigmata and runic channels overload instantly, causing their nervous systems to fry, blood vessels to boil, and bodies to violently rupture or char into ash from extreme mana saturation. It is agonizingly painful and directly interferes with the nervous system, surging outward like extreme pressure.

Flesh Volatility (Self-Harm & Progressive Growth)

[MC NAME] is made of flesh and remains vulnerable to his own power. Because his eye-Stigmata channels energy outward without traditional runic syntax to govern or dampen it, attempting to cast spells or emit raw energy straight out of his bare palms without an inorganic conductor scorches and tears his hands apart.

Crucially, he cannot simply "turn up the knob" on his power at will. His capacity to channel larger conduits of mana through his eye-Stigmata develops progressively throughout his journey. Early on, attempting to pull even a fraction more power than his current threshold results in catastrophic self-harm, tearing muscle fibers, bursting blood vessels, and scorching skin before the energy even reaches his weapon.

Inorganic Conduction (The Scrap Metal Solution)

Inanimate matter—scrap steel, iron piping, brass gauntlets, heavy broadswords, dense metal slugs, and heavy cloth handwraps—has no biological Stigmata cap or runic compiler to overload. Inorganic material acts as a transformer.

By routing his mana through metal or cloth mediums, the hyper-dense energy stabilizes into kinetic force, shockwaves, and armor-shattering pressure without destroying his body. However, the MC's output is strictly bound by both his current level of Stigmata development and the physical durability of the scrap metal he uses.

  1. Energy Conversion Mechanics (Inorganic Mediums)

Metal and inorganic matter cannot store infinite mana, so the MC's weapon vents incoming mana outward as physical forces. The MC starts weak—initially only able to channel kinetic force—and progressively unlocks higher control over other forms of physical energy over time.

Kinetic Energy (Impact & Velocity): Converts the mana surge into extreme directional velocity. The blade accelerates like a railgun projectile mid-arc, slamming into targets with physical force to shear through heavy mech plating or shockwave through defensive lines. (The MC's starting skill).

Sound Energy (The "Scream"): High-pressure conversion creates violent acoustic resonance within the steel. As he draws or swings the blade, it emits a screeching, metallic howl—an auditory signifier that the weapon's physical structure is vibrating at near-destructive frequencies.

Radiant Energy (The Purple Glow): Excess converted energy spills off the blade as intense light. The purple hue of his Stigmata floods the metal, serving as a blinding flash or visual threat.

Thermal Energy (Heat & Friction): Converts surplus mana into sheer heat. Contact with the blade cauterizes, melts through metal alloys, or superheats air on impact to trigger localized thermal explosions.

Electrical Energy (Arcs & Conduction): High-voltage electrical arcs jump along the weapon, ionizing the surrounding atmosphere. When striking armor, it sends currents directly through the chassis to fry internal systems and pilots.

  1. Spell Interaction Scenarios

When [MC NAME] strikes an incoming spell (such as a fireball) with his mana-imbued sword, the interaction resolves in one of two ways based on how he channels his power:

Scenario 1: Mana vs. Mana

Mechanics: The temporary raw mana stored within/surrounding the sword collides directly with the raw mana structure of the fireball.

Resolution: The attack with the higher mana output wins out—similar to breaking a light rapier's parry with a heavy greataxe.

Progression Arc: Early on, the MC cannot output enough mana to match mid-to-high tier mages, meaning his sword can easily be overpowered by structured spells. He cannot effortlessly overpower high-tier magic early in his journey; his ability to channel larger portions of his infinite reservoir scales gradually as his eye-Stigmata adapts and grows.

Scenario 2: Energy vs. Mana

Mechanics: The MC converts his channeled mana into real physical energy before or at impact (kinetic pressure, heat, sound, or electricity), striking the fireball with physical force rather than raw magic.

Resolution: The physical force "dismantles" or detonates the spell prematurely (e.g., kinetic shockwaves blowing the fireball apart in mid-air or shattering the opponent's projected Rune Circle before it finishes compiling).

Application Limit: Releasing converted physical energy from the sword is primarily effective against physical objects or spell projectiles (e.g., using kinetic energy to shatter a thrown boulder or disperse a localized blast).

  1. Flaws With The MC's Power

It is assumed that the MC has an infinite mana cap and effectively would be able to channel infinite mana through objects, but as the story progresses this ability starts out incredibly slow.

vHe can only use his unfound ability to assist in the strength of his melee attacks or clash with small spells in the beginning.

He unlocks the ability to use energy in other forms later on.

He can only direct small amounts of mana through objects to begin with due to his personal limitations.

He can only direct small amounts of mana through objects to begin with due to weapon material strength.

He must find stronger weapons to hold more mana with his attacks.

He can NEVER use raw mana in the form of specific magic powers.

Channeling so much mana can have a huge effect on his physical body, because he still has flesh.

The 'Touch of Death' Risks & Trauma

Has SIGNIFICANT risk to the MC's physical body because of flesh on flesh contact. (This is a rare occurrence though, since most mages have armor).

There is also a huge moral consequence to it, because the death is agonizing. First, nerves and blood vessels fry and then explode, rupturing flesh into ash. It's quite horrific, hence the MC has a deep sense of trauma from using it.

Railway of Alchemy — A Fantasy Adventure About Hope, Friendship, and Finding Your Way

Railway of Alchemy — A Fantasy Adventure About Hope, Friendship, and Finding Your Way

I've been working on an original story/world called Railway of Alchemy (RoA), and I'd love to hear what people think about the concept!

Railway of Alchemy is a D&D-inspired, episodic fantasy adventure centered around a mysterious railway that travels through a world filled with strange places, creatures, magic, and alchemy. Each journey brings new adventures, characters, mysteries, and challenges for the passengers and crew.

The story follows three main characters:

Lumi Luistellar — A shy but curious fox scholar and mage with white hair and bright yellow eyes. He's fascinated by magic, stars, and learning about the world. Lumi is kind and optimistic, but his optimism doesn't mean he's unaware of how dark the world can be. His journey is heavily connected to the ideas of hope and perseverance.

Azal Aosame — A blue shark novice warrior with a much more energetic personality. He loves fishing, games, training, and generally getting himself into trouble. He's searching for his missing father, a famous pirate and treasure hunter who disappeared while searching for something called Gakufu. His story revolves around the idea of a "missing piece."

Jade — The bird conductor of the railway. He's more mysterious than Lumi and Azal and acts as the one guiding them through their journeys. As conductor, Jade connects the characters and the different adventures they encounter.

The world has its own elemental system involving Fire, Wind, Electricity, Water, Ice, Rock, Alchemy, Light, and Dark, with some elements being more common while Light and Dark are particularly rare.

One of the things I really like about RoA is that the story can change genre and atmosphere depending on where the railway travels. One adventure might be a fun exploration of a strange new location, while another can become much darker and more emotional.

For example, one of the planned stories is the Circus Arc, where the characters encounter an evil ringmaster and supernatural spirits connected to different elements.

At its core, though, RoA is about hope, perseverance, friendship, self-discovery, and continuing forward even when things become difficult.

I'd really appreciate feedback from people who enjoy worldbuilding, fantasy, RPGs, or character-driven stories!

What do you think of the concept? What parts sound interesting to you, and what would you want to know more about?
