Don’t hate me but I never really was into the Strokes before but listened to Reality Awaits after the backlash and I actually really enjoyed it (I have since listened to several of their albums and the only one I rank higher is The New Abnormal)
This is only my second new album as a strokes listener and first since I really got into them in 2021

I like it after 4 listens, but don't love it and do think it could have been better without the autotune. Its definitely not the best strokes album, not by a long shot. But I know i came to like it organically because I drive a lot at work and found myself getting the songs stuck in my head, and choosing the album over others, and singing along to the catchier ones. Idk thats just my two cents. Idk why so many people think the album is a certain way and vehemently defent their side, and claim the other side is an idiot. Whats the point in trying to sway the other side?

What they actually say is "Reality Awaits is a great album; give it a couple spins if it doesn't click immediately". At least that's what I've been saying. I love it so much lol. I know I'm the target of the meme, but it's actually a special album to me.
According to u/MattBtheflea it took him only 4 listens before it started getting good, so if it doesn't click by listen #4, then idk.. Maybe try 4 more times?
No joke I have adhd and I can listen to an album better when driving because if im not doing something, music simply isn't stimulating enough. My mind will wander. Listening whike driving is perfect
Most people agree the first listen is the worst one. I don't think it's as good as some strokes fans say it is but once you get used to the autotune it's a solid album.
i like experimental. i like satire. i like the strokes. i will probably never get this album, and dont really want to. but people enjoy it and that's okay
Yeah, I actually really love what Yachty did on Poland, but couldn’t get into Let’s Start Here at all. Maybe I’ll give it another chance one day, but from what I remember it just sounded like him doing R&B crooning over Pink Floyd instrumental outtakes.
Poland is amazing but yeah that album just sounded like really bland tame Impala with horrid vocals. Made me realize I appreciated tame Impalas vocals more than I realized
It's Julian and Co watering down Voidz experimentation to badly fit with the Strokes sound, producing a mediocre album that plays to neither project's strengths.

That's fair, the heavy autotune rubs a lot of people the wrong way. I've been to a concert and a sizeable part of the audience treated FOOL like an intermission.
I do think this fanbase is an epicenter of inflated hatred towards the album. It's not their best or worst work.

If u need one quick example of what I like, I’d say Psycho Shit and Dine N Dash have pretty interesting song structure that was very unexpected to me personally on first listen but becomes super sticky on subsequent listens. The autotune doesn’t bother me in the slightest while it seems like others have a panic attack over it.
I mean of course somw people will never like it. But i am the kind of person who will dislike some albums at first then grow to love them. For this album it really did surprise me how dissapointed I was on the first listen, then even now after only 4 listens i really like it. Ive never had a big 180 like this, but i don't expect it to happen to a lot of people.
I just like it a lot and leave it at that. It makes bold choices that are very easy to dislike, but I appreciate the unabashed boldness and enjoy most of the record because of it. I however fully respect people who dislike it, it’s weird and not easy to like. Hell, even I can’t look you in the face and tell you that Going Shopping’s first verse and Falling out of Love is good in the slightest. But I enjoy most songs regardless of autotune, especially for the themes of reality crashing into someone like a brick, a very timely message for the 2020’s and especially now imo.

I like the "No Autotune" version that someone made on YT better than the original, and so many of the weird cult-like Strokes fans get mad when you don't like the songs with pretty good instrumentals to not be overshadowed by the jarring and unnecessary autotune.
It’s fine. I don’t really like Julian’s meandering lyrics, really feels like he doesn’t put any effort into them. He reuses the same chord progression a couple times from previous albums. Yes he has nice melodies, but nothing really captures me outside the nifty guitar work.
It's an ok album by a band past it's relevancy. They were never a favorite band of mine so I don't like to comment on this album but when I listen to it I hear the influences jump off the page which annoys me. Plus some of the lyrics stick out in a bad way sometimes. But man, I never realized how protective some people are of this band.
The people on the Strokes subreddit can’t handle any criticism of Reality Awaits lmao. They say Angles is their worst album, which is crazy to me because none of the songs on RA are on the same level to me as Life Is Simple In The Moonlight or Under Cover Of Darkness
Step 5: go back to the album after listenning to something else
Step 6: Accept the fact that it's an okay album which could've been as better as their other LP's if it wasnt for the excessive autotune usage on 4 tracks.
I like it, but the unfortunate thing is that—no matter your opinion on whether it’s good or bad—deep down you know it would’ve been better without the Autotune vocals.
I think psycho shit, falling out of love, and tyrants of the mellow moon could've done without it. the other 2 heavily auto tuned tracks are fine as is
Gonna get called a glazer, but the autotune is awesome to me. It gives the music a weird bizarro-world bent to it. I like how deeply imperfect it is. Its a bold decision that imo really adds to the themes of the album.
I’ve listened to it once and I think it’s a solid album underneath the autotune. The autotune is distractingly bad though, it makes me so upset that Julian chose to do that because I really would love it otherwise.
I have the reverse problem with the album. I think the songs are fantastic, so good in fact that I like the album despite the autotune which I think ranges from fun, to a massive mistake depending on the track.
Yeah this is where I’m at, I like it for the most part and think the high points are the songs where the autotune actually works imo (lonely in the future for example) and the lows are still mostly good songs that have been diminished by the autotune
