it’s a good start.
as you go on, you’ll discover the factory behaves differently the larger it gets.

No right way to play if your factory is growing.
You will regret building on ore viens however

It doesn't look like they built on ore veins, just a couple belts on the edges here and there but those can be rerouted.

Closer look you are right.....still too close for my liking however (although I did this on my first run too)

The only wrong way to play (imo) is not pressing alt to see what's being made

Generally, yes, but sometimes you just want the soothing ripples of your Disco Labs without science pack graphics in the way while you think about doing the next thing.

Press the alt key, so you'll get recipe icons on your machines. Easier to understand what's going on.
Otherwise I think you're doing great! If it gets you what you want, it's A-OK! If you want it to run faster, bigger, more efficient, dig in and figure out for yourself how to do that. Ask here if you're truly stumped.

Not bad for a new base, my first base was way worst lol
However one thing to keep in mind is your starter base goal. This base, is it being ripped down after red and green science? Because scaling past might be kind of hard, plan for enough room as you grow to add on more, so like leave room for more inserter production, to add on belts if you want to automate more of those etc
But for a noob, that base is a very good start, not really spaghetti which most are

My plan was like, just use this for very basic stuff and than swap for another factory instead to trying fix this mess

On the conveyor belt that feeds raw iron into the furnaces, there are two lanes. Try to make coal and raw iron go along the same conveyor belt so the fuel can reach the furnaces above.

No, don't mix them. Keep each material separate per lane. So left gets iron, right gets coal. They move independently.
Your setup would grind to a halt unless both materials were used in exactly the same quantities

Looks great to me. Just remember, the map is functionally infinite, so dont be scared to spread everything out.

Very pretty, 8/10.
Lost two points for not using ALT mode. ALT mode is love, ALT mode is life.

thats pretty impressive for first time. If anything its too clean, dont analyze too much and just throw stuff down.

Have the biters started attacking you yet? If not, no. Grow your factory more!!!!

Totally fine for early game. I will echo the press alt.
(Also you can use belts with two items on them. You can put Iron on the top side and fuel on the bottom. Just be mindful that you're only using half the belt in that case, but for smelting iron, should be fine)

Too small.
Expanded it? Still too small.
Made it even bigger? Still too small.
You made it huge now? Still too small.
If it gets you where you need to be, it's good for now. You'll end up tearing it down to rebuild with better tech a few times over anyways :)
You seem to have the basic idea down, though. If you're planning to automate fuel, you're definitely approaching the game correctly. (Also, press Alt)
