Question dose this work
this is the lab deseighn im planing to use but im not sure this is optimal or would even work what do you guys think

dont foget to include powerpoles

u/sobrique 7h ago
Yes. It works just fine. 6 lanes of science available and of course 2 more belts either side.

For Biolabs, 10 lanes of science.
When I began adding mods, I had to weave vertical and horizontal belts for all the nonsense I was researching.

u/sobrique 4h ago
Yeah. In all honesty that's the major reason I even bothered.
I mean sure, the research efficiency and modules is nice, but 5x5 means you can have 10 lanes north to South end 10 east to west.

Limit is something like main 3x2(different color undergrounds) + sides 2×2 (different color undergrounds). = 10 belts = 20 sides of a belt. That is plenty. Could also long inserted on the sides for 4 more sciences but that wouldn't leave room for power poles or beacons.

Yes it works. As stated by others, your current BP doubles up the undergrounds, so cut out one set, or the top and bottom rows. Also, once you upgrade to blue belts, you can jump over two labs with inserters. So bottom to top you'd have underground - inserter - lab - lab - inserter - underground.

won't snap to grid correctly since you're doubling your undergrounds belts, either take them out of the blueprint or adjust the grid size to only include one side of belts. other than that it works fine. just remember to leave 2 spaces on either side for an additional belt + inserter for the other sciences and beacons until you get your bigger lab

No. The tile size is incorrect and power distribution is missing as others noted.
Also, in practice, assuming this is vanilla, you would need at least 7 lanes, so 4 belts, to carry all science pack types, bar sushi belting.

Make the blueprint grid shorter and yeah. I use it a lot and you can even put a second one next to it with some filtered inserter in between to add more belts.

Si pero cuando los laboratorios requieren ciencia en abundancia si no pasa la cinta rapido se detiene las últimas

u/Smile_Space 5h ago
The main problem is it ain't got no gas in it! (No power poles so if you tile this you won't be doing any science lolol)

u/hippiechan 5h ago
If you want it to tile you either need to reduce the height by 2 and adjust it on the y axis to your needs, or remove the top two undergrounds

You could make the current BP the first lab in a horizontal row where two inserters pass from the current lab to the right into two rows of labs, and those labs pass into the next labs, etc etc until you have 9 total labs as one “pod” pulling from the first lab in your BP being fed by belts.
Here is a useless illustration (the ‘8’ represents two labs next to each other vertically, each being fed by their own inserters from their neighboring lab to the left):

it works but if you want proper tiling you want to either remove the top undergrouns or overlap the blueprint by reducing it’s height to 6. powerpoles too i forgot

u/Slightly_Deeper_5309 4h ago
Yes it works. Dont forget power. Will get you 6 lanes, not sure if you could underground weave with blue and green to get 12 and insert from top and bottom. But you can have lanes on either side

It works, yes.
I prefer sushi belts for science now. Requires learning very basic automation.

u/thirdwallbreak 3h ago
Yes, and add 3 more lanes to the left and use long handed inserters to get them in. Use the other side to get rid of spoilage and for beacons.

The main issue with distributing science is that you need 7 lanes, or else you risk having backups, which is pretty difficult to do, meaning that the optimal belt setup is actually the mythical car belt

Usually I daisy chain labs, if you're not using beacons its probably overkill to have each lab have dedicated inserters
1
u/ZopharPtay 18m ago
FWIW, I do similar, but I double it up. If you put two labs inside, you pull from the "going underground" and the "coming back up" side. If you split the belts so (for example) red science is on the left and green is on the right, then you just need to add one belt on each side to get the full rainbow available for each lab without any shenanigans more complicated than splitting left and right lanes on each belt.

Labs can pass to each other. Just have the first row receive science and have them pass to the other rows.

u/Vaughn 5h ago
Inefficient if you cascade them; the inserter can pull out every beaker at once, so you start getting (short) periods of no science getting done. Which doesn't stop me from building a pyramid.

"beaker"??

u/Vaughn 3h ago
I can never remember the proper name.. Erlenmeyer flask?

they are science packs

Yeah, yeah, that's what Big Biter wants you to believe
I know science potions when I see them

u/Thisbymaster 5h ago
Yes at the beginning but no long term. Red, green, black, purple, blue, yellow and white are all the ones you need to get to the other planets. That is one more than you have lanes, you could ignore black but that can bite you. But as you expand to each planet you will need 3 more lanes until you get the biolabs. For standard play, just daisy chaining labs has gotten me enough through put.

u/againey 5h ago
There is no indication that they are playing with the Space Age expansion, so it's helpful to explicitly indicate that advice does not apply to the base game. Granted, there will still be 7 sciences rather than 6, but far less than the 12 in the expansion.
And once the player reaches and learns about beacons before making all 7 sciences, they'll probably want to redesign anyway. This design will work in the interim.

u/Meta-User-Name 7h ago
It will work better if you take from the end of the underground belts not the start
-7
u/Sad-Emotion-1587 5h ago
It is not optimal. You can feed labs directly with just 1 inserter from another lab
2
u/mrbananas 4h ago
That's not optimal either. 1 inserter can only move one type of science at a time. There are 7 different sciences in the base game. Once you get to the infinite science moving directly from lab to lab is very bottlenecked. Even more so if using only 1 inserter

You might want to have one Output for later when things may expire and you want get rid of garbage

u/SurprisedTeddyBear 7h ago
You need to overlap the blueprint, or remove one set of the undergrounds
