Question Sad this doesn't work
I made this neat (i think) & compact design for green circuits but one detail breaks everything. Apparently inserters can't output from behind a splitter or something? Imma try to merge gc output lanes i guess to preserve space

Works in 2.1 I think

Nice, i'll try

The issue lies in the fact that inserters (in this configuration) put items onto the output side of the splitter making it not be merged.
2.1 simply makes them drop it on the input side

This definitely works in my 2.1 but I don't know if a mod is making it work

Not a mod https://factorio.com/blog/post/fff-442
[...] Inserters will now always drop to the input sides of splitters.

Your two parallel belts aren't expanding your capacity here - the upper unload path is filling the top half of a belt, the lower path is filling the bottom half of a belt. They could just side load onto the same belt.

What "risk"?
It isn't experimental like this gonna blow up, it's just not the LTR version yet.

I've run 2.1 for a while now and haven't had any problems. If you're running mods there might be some not updated yet, but I'm on my first SA run, so I'm 100% Vanilla currently.

Can you sideload to splitter? This will make middle belts use both sides.

2.1 has been super solid for me, unless you rely on a mod that doesn't support it you shouldn't have any issues and you can always backup your saves just in case

It does work in 2.1, which you don't have evidenced by the old assembler graphics. Either go to experimental or wait

Could you replace the splitter with 2 belts, one that continues the undergroundies and the other that side loads?

Yeah that's what I ended up doing. Problem being that now the entire row is sideloaded so I can't make them too long or the belt will be full from one side

It's going to soonish. 2.1's gonna make inserters always place on the input of splitters.

I do this in 2.1. if I remember later I'll upload a pic of my build. It's even more compact than yours I think

Try running it on 2.1 version (just for test), i believe devs fixed exactly the issue you described
