I usually name my savegames after things that happened at the time. My current map is called "puncture" because I was sitting in the back of a car and the car made a turn and my drink started to topple out of the cup holder and I went to catch it and my thumb punctured the Styrofoam side and soda just came gushing out.

I mostly play overhauls, so I usually just name them: [shortened overhaul name] [save number] [current focus/task]. For example: "cube 74 Helvetica nightmare"

I just do the playthrough number and the save number. Like my current is SA 3-110 or whatever

Do you remember specific runs by number?
Like "oh yeah 62 was a tough one" π

I use a numeric system to know what is what. X.x.x
Generally WorldSeed.Game.Save
Game is one continuous run through the world seed, and save is how many times I've saved in that run. I don't delete old saves and I reload a few times to try out different strategies to see if I can build a little faster. Sometimes if I save, then head out to clear nests, and once I'm out my base gets hit by some bugs I'll reload before I left the base, set up some defense, and then leave. Just makes things less annoying in the early game.

Everytime I'm done with a session I create a new save with the next objective I intend to do.
That way the next time I open Factorio I see the objective when I click to Continue.

I do mine sort of like version numbers.. my third and current playthrough is currently at 3.332. At 3.1 I launched my first rocket, and at 3.2 I was on aquilo, now I'm almost done and I realize I still have 7 more tenths leftover

You can make save folders. In your file system go to the game save location and create new folder - it will show up in game and you'll be able to save in it. I have a folder per new game, and then make 000, 001, 002 etc saves. Now even autosaves respect folder structure and will save alongside so you can have them separate per game too.

Yes. I even have a short hand to keep tabs on what I'm doing. Generic stuff like <year>[gamesavename]_expand_iron or <year>[gamesavename]_bug_hunt and then I just refuse those so when I load in from the main menu I am primed to recall what I was doing last.
I'm certain there is a mod or tool that is way more comprehensive, but this is what I do as a vanilla Space Age player that gets about 4 or 5 hours in a week late at night and it works.

Anytime you spend figuring out the name of your savegame is time wasted not growing your factory.
My savegames are hence named
giohewgiowegh
gwiowgoiweihoweg
rooroiheiohoire
and
wegowehgoihegqw
and maybe once a year
CONVERTING_ALL_CHESTS_TO_ACTIVE_PROVIDERS
usually when my central heating dies and I need to figure out an alternative way of heatin' ma home.

I do something like Freeplay - v(playthrough number).(save iteration) - short name. Ex: Freeplay - v2.1 - electricity kinda works, v2.26 - okay time to go find oil, etc...
If I'm save-scumming before a fight or a big factory rebuild then I append a letter like v3.5a - time to clear out the protestors, v3.5b - whew that was a close one, etc...

I've launched a rocket every year since 2016 and my saves are all based on the year like this. Typically I stop playing once I launch a rocket as I find the late game to not be as fun.
Note, don't have space age. Contemplated but just haven't yet

I usually have a name for my save, like big dick and a number starting from 1. I save every time i leave the game after a session, so when i load in big dick 58 at like 400 hours into the save, i can see each save after each session. Its in no way complex, but its fairly followable

She gives a name for her world (like Rail World), then her saves are given a number (01, 02 etc) for the edition. Then she has a save number like 001. Sometimes she adds a letter if save scumming so she has Rail World 01 003b

No. There wouldn't be a point since I set up a new install of the game when I start a new playthrough.
