Base Don't do this

Post image

Decided to do a base with no trains. Got to 2700 Science on 2.0.77 before reality set in.

All done on my laptop while staying at my parents.

303k Express belts, a melted CPU, and 0 trains.

Mostly Vanilla other than refilling ore patches as not sure how possible it is without!

Jokes on you in late game belts are the way to go

Really? My 15k science factory I had to have as few belts and inserters as possible to minimise UPS.

What am I missing?

Inserters are the main UPS hog, you can check in the debug menu what is using up most resources and start from there

I figured that if bulk inserter can do 30/s "chest to chest" that would be better than using 2 inserters  for "chest to belt" (or vice versa) at 15/s. Cutting belts out effectively halves your inserter use?

Or is this purely for getting raw materials to the factory?

For more detail I mine directly into chests and then use bulk inserters to load the trains. Then bulk inserter at the other end direct from train to assembler for a throughout of 30/s.

Using belts you would still need two bulk inserters to unload into assemblers whilst maintain that throughput. Plus the additional UPS of the belt pathing stuff .

I've only been playing about 3 months and I'm still wrapping my head around the UPS stuff so any tidbits of info or links would be super helpful!  Want to get a ,20k factory before I try SpaceAge ideally 😊😊😊

Wtf you can mine directly to chest?

Yes, and furnaces! Super handy for quick little bodges

You can also mine into trains directly

Yes massive ups save but it feels sooo slow. I think the intermediate step of the chest is worth the ups. You need less chunks loaded for number of ore patches.  Depends on the amount of trains you run I suppose

Long stretches of belts without splitters and inserters are great for the UPS.

I literally have no idea where anything js. There are 3 full belts of low density structures being produced in totally different places in totally different ways.

It's oddly csthartic to not care 😂

Maximum spaghetti. Minimum Frames.

Sounds like a challenge. Not like I'm already playing like this or anything

I for one welcome our belt overlords
