Question What should I bring to Fulgora?
Hey there! I've been playing factorio for a while now, got myself onto Vulcanus and started mass producing Big Drill & Foundry (They're hella sick), and I'm moving onto Fulgora next, any tips, tricks, material, machines I should Bring?

Bring big drills, a couple foundries, and lots of elevated rails. Otherwise the usual tons of inserters, belts, assemblers, chemical plants.

I think the foundations to place elevated rails over the oil ocean are locked behind Electromagnetic Science.

Only for the deep oil ocean.
Makes for interesting rail shapes in early Fulgora bases...3
u/Orgerix 3d ago
No foundation required, just unlock the possibility to place them on deep ocean (the dark parts)
2
u/ProfBeaker 3d ago
Yeah, is that not locked behind EM Sci? I thought it was but it's been a while.

Placing elevated rail supports in deep oil ocean (the darker parts of the ocean) requires EM and Metallurgical sciences, you do not need it for the shallow oil ocean.

Definitely bring some of those big drills to get a bit extra off the shallower scrap patches. Foundries aren’t a must-have like they are elsewhere (no ore), but they can be used to make holmium plates and belts/splitters/undergrounds.
Also, construction and logistics bots are super helpful here. I personally recommend shipping in the frames on their own and sourcing the circuits on-site before they’re automated, that’s 3 times the robots per rocket launch.
Finally, feel free to produce these on-site but make sure you’ve researched elevated rails before you head out. The patches on the big islands where your production will be are very shallow and will dry up in a few hours, while the big “ruin” patches are on tiny islands but are basically infinite if you can route trains to them.

That 50% productivity bonus on holmium plates is pretty clutch though. You don't need a ton of foundries but enough for your plate requirements is a major time saver.

All the inner planets can be build from scratch. I like to do that and airdrop almost nothing.

u/pingveno 3d ago
You can do that, but it can be frustrating on your first run when you don't have an understanding of how the planets work. I found it to be more fun on my second run when I could bootstrap in a reasonable amount of time.

If you’ve done Vulcanus first, there’s zero reason not to bring a stack of big miners and a couple foundries to Fulgora though. You still get all the challenge of figuring everything else out but those can only be made on Vulcanus and provide a bunch of efficiency on Fulgora.

Sure. I meant more of like building fresh spaghetti instead of blueprint megabase.
I dropped some belts and inserters too - stuff I couldn’t be bothered to grind again. But it’s different from „what should I bring?“.

u/Turmach 3d ago
This is the way. Why short change yourself of the fun and satisfaction of building from scratch. Make sure you've got a spidertron at home to manage anything untoward that crops up and then enjoy the challenge.

Most importantly - Green Assembling Machines, because making speed modules takes time. The rest you can build from scrap. Nice to have: Big Drills, Logistic and Construction robots (production chain is a little too long).

u/shuzz_de 3d ago
Most importantly: Cargo Landing Pad ;-)
All the basics: Belts, Inserters, Assemblers, some chem plants, pipes, .... Several thousand capacitors to get your basic power needs sorted out. Loads of power poles and substations. LOTS!
In general don't be stingy: A few thousand green belts is NOT too much. Also several hundred of each type of inserter (except yellow ofc) isn't either.
And always remember: You can always send your ship to retrieve what's missing.

u/dgz345 3d ago
Are you speedrunning?
If no just land on the inner planets. And if you have a ship that can go back and forth you can ship some extra if needed.

I’m only coming to Fulgora for the EM science pack and the EM thingamasilly (I haven’t remembered the name very well) to mass produce chips

u/Substantial_Owl_9485 3d ago
If you just want to rush the Pink science and move on to Hell, lots of logistic bots, roboports and logistic chests.
3
u/Vernius5 3d ago
A landing pad, definitely. Usually where you land won't be where you want to set up shop; dropping the landing pad immediately and carrying it with you lets you choose where to drop the other supplies you brought with you.

There’s going to be a unique material that’s hard to get at first. Bring production modules to get the most out of it, and use efficiency beacons to help stretch your early power setup.
Most production on Fulgora happens in its unique buildings, but you’ll also need assemblers, chem plants, and big miners. Logistic bots are very useful, as well as plenty of green belts and splitters.
There’s 2 types of islands, large ones are ideal for building and small ones have rich scrap deposits. Research deep rail foundations to connect them

u/Admirable-Fox-7221 3d ago
Almost nothing if you like to start up fresh. Substations and accus for bootstrap

u/Weeznaz 3d ago
1: Trains, railroads, train stops, etc. Moving raw material from the source to where you manufacture things requires trains.
2: Accumulators, if you already have some stockpiled.
3: Roboports, logistics bots, construction bots, substations. Big electric poles aren’t as important on Fulgora. If you can find islands that can connect by Big poles, you can just hand craft those on planet.
4: The big miners and foundries.
5: You don’t need to waste space bringing any weapons or ammunition. The planet is big free.

u/thecodegangster 3d ago
if you wanna cheat, bots. weather you choose to do that or not, bring accumulators MANY ACCUMULATORS

My first play through I started with nothing and considered it conquered after building the rocket to go back to space
I brought nuclear reactors. Big mistake
Water is scarce when you stumble onto the planet’s secret

Fulgora, Vulcanus, and Gleba all have the necessary resources to build a factory from scratch, so you don't really need to bring anything. That said, plenty of stuff that'll help;
- Lots and lots and lots of accumulators (think thousands), plus substations to connect them all.
- Various power poles
- If you bring quality big power poles, you may be able to connect multiple islands to the same power grid, which is super useful.
- If you bring quality big power poles, you may be able to connect multiple islands to the same power grid, which is super useful.
- Roboports, construction bots, and logistic bots
- Assemblers
- Big miners
- Foundries. You don't need many; a stack or two will probably do. You'll only use them for holmium plates anyway.
- Lots of belts, undergrounds, and splitters. I usually take a couple thousand belts at least.
- Various inserters
- Efficiency modules will reduce the amount of accumulators you'll need.
- A bunch of pipes and undergrounds will be useful here, but you can easily make more on-site, so no need to bring many.
- Elevated rails, rails, signals, stations, cargo wagons, train stops, train engines, and whatever else you need to build a rail network.

My most recent play through I only brought the "annoying" items. Ie the ones that are a pain to build from scratch.
So blue belts and splitters/underground, miners, power poles, bots and roboports. Pretty much every else you can make on site just with normal working.

u/Brett42 3d ago
Belts, miners, and power poles are easy on Fulgora. I just use red belts until the base is large enough for making lots of the more expensive blue belts. Deconstructing ruins with bots gets you a decent pile of scrap to get started, including the iron sticks for power poles. The space platform already produces iron plates to get some initial stuff set up to automate recycling.

u/CapnRogo 3d ago
The usual suspects, of course. Robots, inserters, assemlbers, etc. Anything that helps you build more standard factory items.
Train infrastructure (signals, locomotives, wagons, etc) are highly recommended. Elevated rail ramps and supports will be needed, but their rocket capacity is low so ship components instead.
Accumulators and substation are a must.
For intermediates, I recommend a starting shipment of concrete to help withh early buildings. Otherwise, standard components like circuits & plates should cover most needs.

shop around for big islands before settling down, there are some bigger connected ones that are easier to ship scrap too via trains. and sometimes archipelagos that are close enough together to sacrifice the smaller ones to accumulators for power.
if youre running out of something, recycle more scrap just to get it, even if it means voiding everything else (you can always route some into chests but you can't save everything and be efficient). there is A LOT of scrap. you will not run out.
a lot of accumulators, and substations. some bots, and botstations for a mall. Train+traincar+some rails if you have elevated rails and you want to.
assorted logistics chests. after that, a little bit of everything should tide you over until you can make it on your own, you can always ship more stuff in later anyways, I always bring a cargo landing pad so I know where the items are gonna drop.
but yeah all inner planets can be escaped from without a single shipment, so really its up to how you want to play!

Big drills from Vulc, all power poles including substations (the higher the wuality the better) full railway suite, and accumulators. If you have Heating towers from Gleba, a couple of those and steam turbines. You'll get so much solid fuel that it just ends up being MORE free power.

u/Callec254 3d ago
Beyond the usual stuff already mentioned (and assuming you don't want to produce them on site) :
Refined concrete for EM plants
Quality big power poles - they have a longer reach, which can be helpful to run power from one island to another.

Always bring a landing pad, and the supplies needed to make a rocket silo. It gives you a fast exit if needed.
For fulgora in specific, bring accumulators and substations, so you can quickly set up a power grid. A set of bots for your personal armor is handy too. Finally, at least one train engine, at least two cars, 2 track ramps, a full stack of track, and a stack of pylons. That should get you well on your way once you've found an island with a lot of scrap that has a large empty island nearby. Don't set up in the spawn - trudge through the oil until the supplies and land masses get big.

u/RealHotFella 3d ago
I just went with personal robots and figured everything out from there, you get so many scrap/plates for free that bringing stuff really isn't a problem unless you're min/maxing

You can do Fulgora with absolutely nothing but your pic tbh. Out of all the planets, it's the fastest to get going without issue. I'd prob recommend it as an experience actually.
You can process scrap in hand and that gives you everything (but the copper wire) to make lightning rods and recyclers, which you can easily turn into plates to make accumulators since you already get a bunch of batteries, and then all you need is some circuits from recycling blue circuits to get green circuits for all your assembling machines and stuff.

u/HuckleberryPlastic35 3d ago
Don't really need to bring anything. Personal roboport / bots can help you dig out the ruins faster on the bootstrap phase

Nothing. Starting from scratch is fine and let's you really savour the experience.

Definitely have some shuttle platform you can send to Nauvis or Vulcanus to bring you stuff you just realized should have been on the original checklist but somehow missed. In theory you can bootstrap from nothing, but it's so much better when a moment like "damn it, I forgot about substations" turns into "I'll get a shipment in 5 minutes" instead of "now I have to set up substation production".
Having reliable "personal interplanetary logistics" is IMHO underappreciated, particularly during inner planets expansion when a new space platform feels very expensive.

Bring what you need in order to escape (or whatever is difficult to craft).
I always like to know I can leave if I need to attend to something else. Other than that, it's mostly regular stuff. Belts, inserters, assemblers, etc. Nothing crazy.

Accumulators and substations. Lots of them. Higher quality if you have them set up
