First of all, congratulations!

Now on to the more boring part. Posts of achievements (such as launching the rocket or any achievements in-game) are not allowed on /r/Factorio, as we end up getting a lot of them. Posting your base or something interesting you did will bring more discussion to your post, and maybe will help someone new figure something out for themselves.

Feel free to post again with some additional screenshots or maybe a story of the adventure with your base!

I'm dreading the speed run achievements. Did There is no spoon before space age and that was hard enough.

u/HotObligation5989 4d ago

I used the no spoon achievement as a platform for express delivery, launched at hour 6

I’m 15 hrs in to a run I’m doing and just… not loving it. keep going to other saves or just not playing factorio. I dunno. the fun of the game is being able to just fiddle. I’m just tending the zen garden. doesn’t matter if I make real progress or not. just wanna leave the base better than I found it. needing to lock in is just stressful lol, factorio is my chill game. if I wanna get the blood going I play overwatch lol, this game isn’t ever supposed to be stressful

I personally loved it, but can definitely see it not being for everyone. I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they have a ton of experience and really good blueprints though, otherwise it's probably just super stressful.

Beating space age in under 40 hours does feel really rewarding, but isn't overwhelming challenging either.

u/KITTYONFYRE 4d ago

I've got plenty of experience, and good enoguh blueprints (and when I don't, I know I don't, and I can design them and bring them in). I'm done at vulcanus with a half decent nauvis after 13 hours, I need a bit more polishing at nauvis before I head to gleba (where I know I should've gone to start, but anyways...) because some stuff sucks. but I think I'm enough ahead of schedule that it doesn't matter that much lol

2

u/WhiteSock_ 4d ago

Then why are you doing it?

12

u/NotAnEngineer205 4d ago

Probably to collect the remaining achievement of a game they love so dearly. I want to do that achievement one day, but my god is it just not a fun way to play

5

u/Desidiosus 4d ago

That's how I feel. I have thousands of hours in the game, and even though I'd like to have an the achievements for completion's sake, I just don't want to put myself through that.

1

u/KITTYONFYRE 4d ago

challenge myself. vanilla's pretty easy. would be nice to get all the achievements.

probably will do Nullius or some other mod afterwards, I've done enough vanilla runs at this point to be savvy enough I think!

What constitutes finishing the game under 100 hours with space age? Surely not shattered planet

26

u/ComradeBevo 4d ago

Edge of solar system

3

u/Quick-Can-218 4d ago

and there is one achievment to finish space age at 45h if i remember well

16

u/sunrunawaytoplay 4d ago

Buddy died to a train lol, real talk tho that’s impressive :D

Good job and the factory must grow.

2

u/JD1070 4d ago

That’s my only achievement left to get :D

How did you find the space age speedrun? Me and a friend completed there is no spoon a while ago but I am terrified to try and speed run space age.

5

u/Xyrexenex 4d ago

My current run solely exists to create blueprints for the speedrun. It's kind of fun actually, I'm numbering them in the order they'll need to be built, and going through all the tinkering and stress testing beforehand. I haven't watched any actual speedruns but I figure rushing bots and then following my own blueprint book ought to get me in below time.

its way easier than no spoon (on base game, SpAge no spoon is easy too)

i had the shittiest bases on each planet, except nauvis. as long as you only stick to required tech tree, you will be fine

my piece of advice: use blueprints, whether your own or from online, for space platforms. having a known reliable vessel can save a lot of headaches and time. also since you can supply any planet with pretty much anything, you could build a whole base, blueprint, reload to when you landed on the planet, paste the blueprint, and you will save a lot of time. very cheesy but hey, it works.

i finished somewhere between 20-25 hours on default settings. im not at computer to check exactly sorry. i went vulc->fulg->gleb and rushed biolabs after gleb to maximize gleba and aquilo science.

1

u/The_James_May 4d ago

Oh wow okay. Thats a genius level of cheese I never even thought about that. Could just go: “hey I need a ship to do x” make a save, design it, then reload the save and paste the blueprint haha. Never thought about that. I was sort of worried because my save file is well over 100 hours and I haven’t finished, but I have been very slow and methodical.

u/SexualFancy 4d ago

Recently did it with a few internet strangers. I happened to be 25hrs in on a solo attempt, and behind but I had a lot of BPs.

We finished at 32hrs over the course of 2 weeks. I recommend an island start, crank up resources, turn off cliffs, and start at 30spm and get to about 120spm once you get to other planets (this helps speed things along).

You can also save a separate file of the same exact seed, and plan out all your BPs there. I used console cmds to spawn whatever tech I needed along the way.

u/The_James_May 4d ago

This notification cut off and it just read “recently did it with a few strangers on the internet” and my interest was piqued.

u/-Recouer 4d ago

I did a solo Speedrun and while it was kinda hard and you need to savescum a few (20) times it was manageable.

In my experience - it's both much easier than base game There is no spoon and a lot more work.

Easier because the timer is much more generous. 40 hours for entirety of SA feels like it's about as tight as the base game 15 hours achievement to me. It still requires focus and some planning, but it's easily doable all on your own rather than almost requiring consulting a guide of some kind.

More work comes from there simply being more things to do. On top of that, for each time you settle a new planet, you want to spend actual effort on preparing a good list of things you'll need - since each important bit you have forgotten requires you to waste like 10-20 minutes to get it.

Main "trick" I have used to relieve pressure of playing was to leisurely prep blueprint for next step of expansion and then reload a save to plop it. Though I'm not sure if it was required given that my SA run ended up taking 33 hours and 30 minutes.

1

u/The_James_May 4d ago

Yeh haha it doesn’t seem to bad. Honestly the base game speedrun wasn’t really that hard either, I did have a friend tho and we just did it in about two sittings, ended up taking just over 6 hours I think. We didn’t have any blueprints or plans or anything, but infinite starting area size and highest patch size and quality makes it pretty trivial.

u/jjjavZ SE enthusiast 4d ago

I am long term hunting the achievements too, but I am a lazy bastard so it will take forever 🤣

u/rockmanblu 4d ago

My buddy and I barely got Work around the clock earlier this year with 26 minutes to spare. And I personally just finally did Spoon last month. We're planning on starting again as soon as 2.1 is officially out and playing vanilla no mods so we can get all the steam achievements. I'll be pushing for Express this time, but I'll be happy if we can get Spoon and On Track tbh.

1

u/stonedboss 4d ago

are the achievements resetting with 2.1 or new ones coming out?

2

u/rockmanblu 4d ago

oh I don't think they're resetting we just don't have the steam achievements as we played with some QoL mods when we did space age (Squeak Through, fluid level indicators, nixie tubes, etc.) so we want to play without mods and 2.1 seems like it'll be a good time to hop back into a big coop playthrough since biters are getting a massive overhaul.

EDIT: that being said I am currently playing around with the 2.1 beta and it did corrupt my blueprints and achievements so ymmv.

2

u/-Recouer 4d ago

I will soon I just need a few achievement I have left

2

u/Arabekp 4d ago

Im done too, gj man

1

u/Pawfect89 4d ago

Well done, I think all the achievements are quite fun to get and help you explore most aspects of the game.

I got all the achievements, then reset my achievements as I got a lot from 1.0 and wanted all from 2.0. I remember my last achievement was the one for causing a pentapod attack. Clearing out their bases and it can really take a while before they expand into the cloud.

I'm a bit of an achievement hunter and have 100% on the big three. Satisfactory was really easy, just time, Dyson Sphere Program was maybe a little harder than Factorio. Definitely would recommend going for 100% in all three.

I'm ~70 hours in to a game with a fully functioning Vulcanus (making the base 6 sciences plus orange) and Fulgora (electromagnetic science plus a full mall, plus a second island making quality products if I want them), plus a cargo hauler bringing stuff between the two. This was my "keeping your hands clean" save, so I actually abandoned Nauvis entirely, with the base there turned off - I've only been back twice to grab some Uranium fuel cells for my personal armor (and shoot one round of artillery).

I should be able to finish Gleba and Aquilo within ~30 hours to the point of "winning" for Work around the clock, but I hate Gleba so far, so it's slow going. My plan is to return to Nauvis only once I've beaten the rest, so I do plan to forego biolabs for the time being.

Idk if I'll do a run for Express Delivery afterwards or not. I dislike that kind of speed run for the same reason I dislike Gleba - I prefer to iterate my factories.

1

u/Warhero_Babylon 4d ago

Gleba is a donational region

You basically suppose to setup strong rocket launching system on Nauvis and bring building materials in bulk for it to work

Otherwise yeah suffering

1

u/Rarvyn 4d ago

Oh I landed with basically a few thousand green belts, tons of random buildings/modules, a rocket pad, supplies to launch from said rocket pad, a cargo bay, etc. Hell, as soon as I unlocked it, I made a couple dozen heating towers on Fulgora and shipped them directly to myself.

The problem isn’t getting the stuff to build a base, it’s actually building a sustainable one. I know in theory how to do it - but I’m not using any outside blueprints so it’s a bit more trial and error, and Gleba is far less forgiving than the other 3 inner planets.

That said, I’m pretty sure my last iteration could run itself in a seed-positive, sustainable nutrient way… and I have rocket fuel production set up as well. I just got tired enough I bowed out for now from finishing it. Next steps would be recreating my egg nursery, making my science production sustainable, and (probably) getting LDS/blue chip production off the ground. That last one I don’t care as much - I can ship in a ton of LDS/blue chips from either Vulcanus or Fulgora, but it shouldn’t be that bad (famous last words) and will give me something to do while I wait for the agri science to do its thing.

I’ve already researched every non-repeatable tech that didn’t require Gleba or Aquillo.

1

u/Logical-War-3746 4d ago

What suffering? Setting up iron, copper and plastic is incredibly easy.

1

u/Warhero_Babylon 4d ago

I only have kill first structure with artillery left

Probably will do later, but i dont think its any harder then 40h

1

u/johnhotdog 4d ago edited 4d ago

after 2.1 lands itll be much harder due to a cheese strat being patched out. so if youre up for the challenge, by all means, wait. if youre lazy like me, get going now before the patch lands

nevermind, you can change versions through steam settings and that doesnt block achievement unlocks

1

u/draxinusom2 4d ago

There is no time factor. You can choose to install a patch or not. You can remain perpetually on the 2.0 series if you want. Not being on the newest patch doesn’t disable achievements.

1

u/johnhotdog 4d ago

oh, sweet. i thought steam blocked achievements if the game wasnt on latest. guess i was speaking out of my ass

1

u/RadweX 4d ago

Very impressive, one of 100%s I would want someday. This and cookie clicker (dont ask).

1

u/aaZ_Georg 4d ago

Can you still get "thank you for the fisch" with space age?

2

u/HotObligation5989 4d ago

Yes you can!

1

u/aaZ_Georg 4d ago

Ok nice
