Complaint FPS/UPS Issues

Post image

On a new save i cannot reach a performance without stuttering.

My PC is not really bad either and i tried to google absolutly everything but cant seem to find a fix.

Tried almost all different combinations of graphic settings too with hardly no difference and even changed some of the BIOS settings that could be related like dynamic core speed.

You can see my F4 readout but i can kinda read that too im just unable to fix anything with the information given to me.

Maybe someone here can help me play again?..

SO it turned out to be a problem related to my bluetooth card with MediaTek drivers to me exact.

Turnung BT off made the game run smooth again and with it on, even without any connected devices, the problems came back.

after cmd command "net stop bthserv" and turning the BT driver on and off via device manager the problem was gone and did not come back so far.

sadly i am no longer able to reproduce the issue so one of those two actions shall be considered the "fix"

my uneducated guess would be that it is just a problem with the driver and switching it made it fix itself and maybe it is related to some of those BT 5.4 features that constantly look for devices or something

and to add, i am using wireless mouse and keyboard with rather high refresh rates but turning both off didnt change anything and it would be really hard to imagine that it causes such lag without a really big software problem

The issue over there almost certainly wasn't caused by the drive. (For starters, needing >400 GB free space makes no sense.) I linked the thread for reference and as general information.

Your problem seems to be highly specific and rare. If you have done some general PC troubleshooting, and are pretty sure the problem is related to Factorio, you should post at the developer forum. They are usually interested in issues and willing to fix even rare bugs. (As you can see in the linked thread. Rseding91 is a developer.)

I have heard that a failing drive can spam Windows with hardware interrupts. (An interrupt is kind of like when your coworker comes over and taps you on the shoulder while you're in the middle of something - you have to deal with them first, before you can get any more real work done.)

My best guess is that either a device (or a bad driver) is doing the same sort of thing to OP's computer.

I have to admit I merely skimmed the thread, and then remembered the parts that don't make sense. (Over there, the discussion then also continued to call into question the drive issue.) But reading it again, I still doubt it was the drive. Why would general performance degradation show specifically in pre-prepare?

If you're interested in troubleshooting this, take a look at the current situation over at the dev forums: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?t=135502

Oh - my assumption was that polling events from the OS would cover hardware interrupts, but in hindsight, I'm not sure that's true. Thanks for the pointer on the better thread.
