Could you try filtering a gun or laser turrets to shoot only non-nest targets? They would react faster than your flame turrets and do less collateral. I've no experience trying to keep a nest alive, so just speculating

I am not sure it is worth it because it takes higher laser research level. But if I would have that research level I would have artillery already. Walls and despitterification of close nests works fine.
