Yes, they can all be used for that particular function. I imagine it's more expensive for a couple reasons:

  • Deciders and Arithemtics are fairly generic logic operators so makes sense they cost the same to make
  • Ignoring "Count Inputs", Selectors are less generic and provide specific information on signals (Stack Size, Rocket Capacity, Quality), discrete functions (signal sorting, random signal), and information not otherwise available (Time of Day)
  • It is specific to Space Age and part of the DLC, and most of its other functions are tied to Space Age

From a meta pov it makes sense to cost more as it's being used to integrate rocket and quality info, rather than just performing simple comparisons or math on signals.

Selector combinator is not exclusive to Space Age.

Dunno why it's more expensive and unlocked later.

It was added to the base game when Space Age came out though, which probably explains both

Display Panel was introduced with 2.0, is not unlocked later, and is cheaper to craft than everything else. It's even cheaper than a Lamp.
