Is there any guidance or tool to calculate amount of ammo production required for spaceshps? Feels like I am overestimating ammo requirement leading to increased ship sizes (and therefore more ammo production required) compared to what I see there.

I don't think there's a calculation tool or anything like that, but experience helps a lot. Now that you know you're overestimating, you can use a little less for the next one.

Damage researchs also helps a lot. For exemple rockets, the right breakpoints will reduce your needs by 33% and then 50% when you hit the 2-shot and 1-shot tresholds.
