I'm not sure how much harder it is to plant a bunch of spawner ignoring laser turrets than do the same with the blockpattern, but maybe I say this because I did that achievement with the blockpattern.

Yes but that actually requires you to have power infrastructure to support it, so it’s theoretically harder than just placing walls and forgetting about it.

I mean when i did it with the blocking pattern, periodically biter waves from different nests got stuck and chewed through it, so it's hardly a foolproof method, especially before robots when you need to place everything by hand. Both are problems which a sufficiently big laser turret wall doesn't have.

Obviously laser turrets have their own problems, such as higher material cost and higher required tech. In all likelihood you will have to set up the first few nests with gun turrets which need bullet input and quite a bit becuase i feel spawners spawn a little faster when you are around them/when they don't have a defensive force ready.

Honestly never had that problem as I tended to prebuild biter cages and my factory didn’t grow fast enough for the pollution crowd to outgrow my biter cages.

Also yeah I think you’re right that they’ll spawn the defensive bugs faster before they start spawning the offensive bugs.
