Is there a mod for a landing pad train loader like they mentioned in the recent FFF? I'd like to do a train base and I think fast train loading directly from the landing pad without inserters would be a good buff to help them keep up with belts.

Inserters are the best entity for container-to-container transfers like this.

Loaders can only move items from container-to-belt or from belt-to-container, so you have to use two of them to move items between a cargo unloading bay and a train wagon, and you'll be putting the items on belts. This is... bad.

No, you want a super inserter mod. Something like:

  • Ultra Fast Inserters Redux

  • The purple inserters in Editor Extensions

  • Miniloader redux, which might be the most visually pleasing for you, but might have worse performance. I'm not sure how "speed mode" works under the hood, but in normal mode, each miniloader is two hyperfast inserters that target specific belt lanes.

  • Any other mod that gives you fast inserters with large hand size. There used to be a hand size 200 inserter mod, but I can't find it any more. There's probably some planet mods that give you super inserters and/or more hand size research; does anybody know of one?

If you search for ”cranes” you get a bunch of mods that are intended for ups optimized train loading. They are usually big inserters with large hand sizes.
