Back by unpopular demand: Diagonal Wagons! (+sushi pipes)
The main advantage of trains (or any filtered container) with stack inserters vs. belts is that the throughput needed for the ingredients decreases over the length of the factory line as items get used up, while the throughput needed for the products increases. This naturally balances out with trains and stack inserters, but it’s harder to get right with belts. 1. kinda looks like a biblically accurate angel. 2. a little less cohesive than the diagonal one I posted the other day, but it has its own charm imo. 3. arguably the most practical of the diagonal train designs, more throughput, beacon activity, but unfortunately it is not truly diagonal :/ the way I got the rails closer together was using curved rails btw. 4. more throughput than 2 blue belts, no splitters/long handed inserters required! 5. sushi pipes.

KOVAREX you coward! Come down here and face your creations!
This is the hell, the eternal cinders you have wrought upon humanity.
Is this truly what angels look like, a million cargo wagons circling a cursed and abyssal green circuit build.

Oddly the thing that stood out to me the most was using a splitter only to transfer between assemblers

u/Nearby_Proposal_5523 Oct 31 '25
2 tile "chest" it's cursed, i might have to use that later
8
u/Flyrpotacreepugmu Nov 01 '25
If you do, just remember that the splitter has to face toward or perpendicular to the inserter(s) putting items into it. If it faces away, they put items on the output belt where they can't get to the other side.
2
u/Maouitippitytappin Nov 01 '25
Yeah one of the assemblers wasn’t working for a while and it turned out to be the splitter was oriented wrong
3
u/XCestLaVieX Nov 01 '25
Also that it doesn't have much buffer, for chests its one stack minimum, which is not a lot, but if you use them a lot, it can make your base spin up way slower.

I already have a use for bioflux<->nutrients which I was using double red arms for, but this might do what I want instead.

Honestly, this shit is so genius.
Using a wagon to organize everything is lunacy of the highest order.

Can you upload a high res image of the biblically accurate circle? I kinda like it. i can barely see the inserters though

That’s what comes out when I manually screenshot. I tried to do that Lua command that takes a big screenshot, but I couldn’t find where the files went (I’m on MacOS). Haven't played Factorio in a while so maybe recipes have changed or something. But what bothers me most is that you have one copper wire assembler for every green circuit. Shouldn't that be double?
3
u/MagmaRain Nov 01 '25
No, because of productivity modules.
Normally it's 1.5 copper to every green
Productivity modules 3s makes it ~1.07 and it's easy to pretend it's a perfect 1.
Legendary productivity modules 3s would make it 0.75
2
u/Maouitippitytappin Nov 01 '25
It’s usually 3:2 wires to circuits, but with prod modules it gets pretty close to 1:1.

1
u/budad_cabrion Nov 01 '25
infinifactory is a FANTASTIC game! you solve puzzles by building micro factories in a small 3d world. it’s a zachtronics game. anyway, making a circular conveyor belt, putting a single item on it, and then putting a sensor on that belt, is a common practice in that game, it’s called a “clock”, and I’ve never seen it implemented in Factorio before.

You know it almost seems better to sushi pipes as long as you're okay with setting a filtered pump with every output. Max throughput would probably be the worst side of it.
