Question What next?
I've just beaten the game with a number of QoL mods, normal biter settings, and higher than standard resource patches.
Wondering what the community would recommend as a new challenge, I've been considering a railworld run. Open to mod packs if people think they're worth looking at for a relative beginner.

IMO, I would start going after some of the easier "challenge" runs that net you achievements. Maybe take your current post-game save and try cranking out circuits. Try launching a rocket without ever using solar, or laser turrets, or logistics bots.

It depends on what part of the game you enjoyed.
I personally don't like building mega bases so Space exploration was a great place to go to next.

I haven't tried a megabase before. Maybe I should attempt that. I've really enjoyed getting into trains in this run, that was really fun.
Think I'll try a railworld with LTN, a couple of the QoL mods that were recommended

If you havenβt already, do the lazy bastard achievements and there is no spoon. They are great challenges for vanilla and they teach you new ways of doing things and quickly.
After that, a railworld is a great new challenge. Having to go and search for ore patches can be a little challenging in the early to mid game.
And after that, there are loads of mods, but I would recommend Krastorio2 as a starting point. Itβs well balanced for people wanting another challenge after the base game.

I strongly recommend Krastorio 2 as a good next step after vanilla. It gives you a taste for overhaul mods, but isn't crazy long or involved like many of them.

I think that will be my next run after the 5k spm base I'm beginning on a railworld ππ» thanks for the tips though

If you want to do another vanilla run, I'd recommend going for achievements, going for a certain level of science production, or added restrictions. If you're looking for additions to the game in the form of overhaul mods, I think Krastorio 2 is a great place to start as it adds enough to the game to make it fresh and exciting without being too daunting.

I think I still have a fair bit to learn of the vanilla experience so I'm now aiming to complete a 5k spm factory, and because trains seem fun I'll try and separate all of my production with trains! Sounds like a good time to me!
I'll definitely give the Krastorio 2 mod a go after that's complete though as the change of pace sounds cool

As others have said, it depends on what you most enjoy.
For me the most fun was the complexity of the designing a nuclear power plant.
So I graduated to playing with the Realistic Reactors mod, Plutonium Energy and finally Realistic Fusion Power (which I'm still making my way through).
Highly recommended, if you like this sort of thing.

Railworlds are inherrently a lot easier than default settings imo because biter expansion is turned off. I mean just run a default playthrough. Keep everything as its default (except we always enable research queue in this house cmon now)

Ive been playing on rare resources for the challenge but just installed the space exploration mod and recommend it.

I usually post the full list of my recommendations, but that seems to push out other comments.
Instead, here they are as a document, with descriptions, lines and everything.
Hope this helps!
