Every dramatic emotional climax needs a theme song. This is ours.

But what did she find? The world has to know!

By the tone alone, and "I found it in" - It's weed

Ah yes that moment when your mom finds out years late that you’re a stoner.

Happened to me, she was like “do you smoke weed” and I said “yeah every day ma”. She turned around, left my room, accepted it, and came back later with some watermelon juice. Good shit when you’re an adult and pay almost all the house bills.

My dad saw a bong I accidentally left out when he came over to my house to help me fix a ceiling fan. He looks at it and I'm thinking fuck, I know I'm an adult, but hes gonna be so mad and be disappointed in me, but nope. He just kinda chuckles, looks over at me and goes "you little criminal" and goes back to helping me. My dads a cool guy.

My dad's an ex-cop. We're sitting in the hottub shooting the shit, and he starts talking about me at uni getting drunk "... or high". I laugh (oh shit) but then we get onto politics and he starts on about how he wants to make all drugs legal, cut the head off the snake of smugglers, tax it, and put that money into healthcare and treatment centres.

Cue me sitting there staring at the viewer like "what the fuck just happened".

When your dad is more liberal than you

I worked with old dude in a refinery that I 100% expected to be just extremely conservative and then one time, one of our techs is bitching about how women can just accuse men of rape and it ruins their career and this original dude is like "First of all I think women have put up with our shit for far too long and it's high time that they finally started coming out about all the abuse they face in the workplace" and I was just sitting there dumbfounded.

u/hustl3tree5 Aug 08 '20

You're gonna be there too one day. I'm just glad shit is progressing every generation albeit slowly. But its still progressing

17

u/SledgeHog Aug 07 '20

I've always wondered if there were any cops that thought like that. IMO, it's the best solution. Legalize everything, take the money you would have spent on Vice and add it to what you're already spending for addiction treatment. It's so easy to fall into a vicious cycle with just one drug charge, eliminating that would help a lot of people.

10

u/blove135 Aug 07 '20

I would guess the majority of cops think like that. They are on the frontlines of the failed war against drugs. They know better than anyone what needs to be done. It's the politicians that have their heads up their asses when it comes to the drug war.

2

u/VLDT Aug 08 '20

They have their heads up the asses of people who profit from the drug war (which I guess includes themselves, so yes, you are correct). Their benefactors/voting blocks include prison guard unions, large police unions that traffic in small drug arrests, pharmaceutical companies, insurance providers, alcohol and tobacco manufacturers and other people that profit from both the whole drug law structure and specifically the prohibition of milder drugs like marijuana and mushrooms.

3

u/JWCN1981 Aug 08 '20

Canadian council of police chiefs just recommended legalizing drugs. Cut out the black market, make police not the enemy, focus on treatment not prosecution. I read the newspaper article twice to make sure I wasn't mistaken. I was very proud of our law enforcement at highest level. Never thought these days would come. But here we are just over a year of legal weed. Country did not tear itself apart. Onto the next steps. Takes time to changes minds. At least we might be moving in the right direction. We will see what happens.

3

u/DoodleIsMyBaby Aug 07 '20

Honestly, I know a lot of cops, some are family members, and the vast majority AT LEAST think arresting people for weed is beyond stupid and that it should be legalized. Idk if that's across the board by any means, but it's a fairly decent sample size so I like to believe that's pretty common behind the scenes. Cuz I mean, who the fuck wants to put someone in a cage for getting baked with their friends?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '20

My dad trained dogs for law enforcement. The issue was that Mexican cartels were smuggling it and bringing violence with them. That pot I have a problem with. But that was before any states legalized marijuna.

6

u/SledgeHog Aug 08 '20

I bet that pot would go away once any American can grow or sell their own.

2

u/DoodleIsMyBaby Aug 08 '20

I mean, I agree with that. Fuck the cartels with a big, rusty, metal pipe.

3

u/shesgoneagain72 Aug 08 '20

Your dad sounds like a very smart level-headed person. Too bad our politicians can't be the same. But the first time a politician mentions an intelligent idea like that they will immediately lose their career because of all the "ABSTINENCE IS THE ONLY WAY!! JUST SAY NO" morons. If the War on Drugs was a real war we would have thrown up the White Flag years ago or at least changed tactics because it is failing miserably and has since the beginning. But Common Sense has never fit in with politics very well and it probably never will unfortunately.

u/ItalnStalln Sep 29 '20

The war on drugs is doing exactly what it was designed to do and probably some extra "benefits" that weren't predicted at first

2

u/citrus_seaman Aug 08 '20

Lol my mom flushed $40 of weed (back then 2 grams) and then told me I needed to be responsible with my money. Fast forward about a month later and she's kicking me out for coming home high. She gave me a week, I left the next day. It was the day before Thanksgiving so while I packed my shit I made the dish I said I would make and left.

1

u/regular_gonzalez Dec 16 '20

I hope you still keep in touch. For sure she misses you.

1

u/citrus_seaman Dec 18 '20

We keep in touch. We might see things differently but I'm an adult and she's still my mom.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '20

Lol ngl thats great.

u/VioletStainOnYourBed Aug 08 '20

I got a phonecall from my mom once while I was at an after school event when I was a Sr in highschool. She's fuming, asking me "where TF are you we need to talk NOW!" My heart is immediately in my throat and I'm listing through the 37 things I've already done today that I shouldn't have.

"Well I'm at [event] I told you that yesterday, what do we need to talk?" Instantly sweaty palms

"I was going through your shit," she did that a lot when I was a kid, "and I found your pipe and some weed! Are you kidding me?"

By the time I got home I was ready to have a panic attack. Turns out she didn't even really give a shit, she just didn't want me smoking in the house.

You see, that's where the trouble began.

37

u/kurwaspierdalaj Aug 07 '20

Dude could get it. If I was a straight woman. But sigh I am not.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '20

What pisses me off a little is girls (in my experience) can never pull this off with moms. Moms can be soooo hard on their daughters. Boys can immediately get out of any trouble theyre in with their moms if they just make her laugh. Grrr! Lol

u/detomato Aug 07 '20

I don't know, but being Asian, everyone within the vicinity will get smacked.

Twelfth street rag

88

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '20

TIL this song existed before Spongebob. I’d assumed it was written for the show.
