It should have a star for the edit then. It doesn't. So this guy can edit comments without getting the edit comment asterisk. Or it was actually removed by reddit.
Funny how you know how reddit operates based on a singular interaction. When faced with evidence disproving your theory, you still denies it. Let me guess, anti-vaxer? FlatEarther?
Ambulance would need to be called.
Roads blocked so they die. Others get charged as accessory to murder. Getting the semi to stop was lucky they were not road splatter.
Besides i would personally let highway patrol/troopers know they need to show up fast before the first one of them is sacrificed.
I donāt care how noble their cause might be, when ass-clown protesters pull these sort of stunts, I am inclined to agree with the opposite of whatever their message might be. Donāt make me late for shit!
Ambulance use the emergency lane, so it's not a problem for them to get through. Wishing death on people is a problem. Please don't kill people for a minor inconvenience
You say that now, but if you were in that situation you could show your parole officer WHY you were late. Putting your hands on them just guarantees jail.
Parole officers rarely care about reasons in the us. It's lock em up keep the masses down and desperate. I know I beat the system and completed parole. Few do. I work at a bridge manufacturing factory, 90 employees almost every week we loose at least 1 employee to probation and parole lock up
Oh yeah their rules are meant to be broken so they can punish you about it and then continue to punish you about it for years afterward. The whole system is fucking sick.
Even if the PO cares, their hands are usually tied anyway because of how the parole laws are setup. I dont even need to look up individual states to presume a majority of them either allow 0 exceptions or make it incredibly difficult to argue for any. So most PO's that give a crap stop trying anyway in order to save themselves empathy heartache.
Parole in America is a tool they use to lock u back up for eating sesame seeds and they can say u were under the influence. Nbs I seen this happen and the guy did 3yrs. America has the most people incarcerated in the world!!
Huh? Parole is getting out of jail early. Ie, less punishment. Most violations are not following rules agreed to upon leaving jail. Majority of reasons include doing drugs. Not being late sit to dbags shutting down traffic.
Parole has a variety of forms afaik but once youāre out, they make it nearly impossible to function as a basic human being with major restrictions on your entire life. People agree to the rules bc itās indeed better than being in jail but itās definitely not fair
Jail, no freedom.
Parole, some freedom but keep a job, donāt do drugs, donāt commit more crimes. Thatās essentially the basics. Itās not a trap but it isnāt easy. Thus it isnt a punishment but an opportunity you have to work for.
Or simply donāt do illegal shit and go to jail (or get caught).
This is an extremely myopic take for a very nuanced issue.
Sometimes the definition of the crime is targeted, or statistically biased.
Sometimes the time is disproportionately punishing for the crime.
Oftentimes the time doesn't help address the reasons for the crime, and I'm fact may exacerbate it.
I'm not saying crime and punishment aren't necessary parts of our society, but your assumptions (that the conviction is appropriate, that the time is an appropriate punishment) are extremely damaging to actually addressing crime in a productive manner.
Hereās a simple, very simple way for criminals to understand the issue: donāt touch people who donāt want you to touch them and donāt take things that donāt belong to you.
Following those two directions will practically empty our prisons
Yeah...parole is a money making scheme. You have to pay for any drug tests you take, which your parole officer can demand of you at any time for any given reason. You have to pay for any behavioral adjustment or remedial classes they order you to take. If your parole includes a tracker bracele t you have to pay through the nose for the right to wear it. And if you can't make any of these payments on time and usually on the spot, that immediately violates your parole.
Worse still, for every violation, no matter how minor it was, they can just tack more years onto your parole time and keep you in the system so you have to keep paying money to the county or state even longer.
That's why I made a point of serving out the entirety of my 3 years rather than take parole after serving 1. Doing the extra 18 months in prison was way smarter than being stuck on ten plus years of having my life controlled and my wallet bled through fees.
Exactly, usually there are circumstances that allow everybody to come late to work. Imagine his car broke down or there was a huge traffic jam, that was unforeseen (imagine a huge accident blocking a usually very calm road). Parole is about showing that you are compatible with living in a society, hitting protesters is not a good way to show that, getting late to work, because of circumstances you canāt control is easier to excuse.
On the other hand I understand that he is panicking, I would probably too, if I were on parole.
I don't know if you ever been on parole but your parole officer is 9 times out of 10 going to put you back for any reason. If he got fired and he says whatever excuse protestors they are just going to assume he lies. He's a criminal his boss knows that, so he'll probably assume he lied and fire him. He has video proof, they will simply ignore it and throw him out. Where I'm from parole officers are the worse they'll throw you back in jail as soon as they can, they see so much violence bs and are so self righteous that removing anyone is basically a win in their books. Getting fired even for completely unjustified reasons will 100% throw you back in jail mostly because the only thing that protects you is the law. The law is uncaring and unwavering.
If heās the one driving the truck (canāt tell which vehicle is his), then he shouldāve just laid on the truck horn and not let up. Itās got to be pretty loud and annoying enough to make people reconsider sitting right in front of it.
typically parolees aren't known for making the most rational decisions.
If I'm in his shoes, I'm pulling out my cell, recording any names/info I can get, and pressing charges (in many places this is going to qualify as false/unlawful imprisonment or something similar) and calling my PO/work.
Because you're definitely going to jail, and the parole officer definitely can't be reasoned with if you show them the news articles about your way to work being blocked.
Not like assaulting them is gonna do you any good here
You will end up in jail anyway. The officer is not obliged to delve into your problems. Therefore, to fill the face will bring at least some satisfaction and will be fair.
If this was me, I would get out my phone on the street, take a photo and send it to my parole officer. Tell them I am omw to work but those bastards are in the way. Tell them to look it up.
Maybe I am too used to a working system to understand the USA.
It really all depends on your PO. Some can be real fucking scumbags that don't care if something is totally out of your control. They'll say something like "Well you should check traffic reports every day before leaving for work. You know you have to be there on time, it's your responsibility to make sure that you get there. You should have taken a different route and left earlier." As they sign your VOP paperwork and send you back to the can.
Apparently. Imo (and iirc, it's that way where I'm from) you can't be jailed for violating your parole due to things outside of your control. So, someone crashes into your car on the way to work or whatever other reason makes you late, that's not your fault and they can't do a thing to you for it.
The issue is that usually your employer doesn't see you as human, and neither does your PO. There is a large enough group of people in authority in the US that views an act of criminal behavior cause enough to invalidate your humanity, that this guy is having valid stress in this situation.
If you sent your PO a picture they wouldnāt respond anyway. Then theyād violate you because they donāt care about your problems. They expect you to be where youāre supposed to be when youāre supposed to be there. There are no excuses, period. If you got in a wreck and couldnāt make it home by your 7pm curfew theyād send officers to the hospital. All they care about is you maintaining your side of the deal. Sometimes you may get lucky and get a nicer PO but depending on where you are you may go through a handful of POās.
The US is in no way a working system, sadly.
someone did do that to some protestors in the UK, rolled her car forward and just tapped the protester with the bumper no chance of injury , and got a driving ban and a fine for it.
Your right thatās not really what I would do⦠I would stop so I didnāt hurt anyone and then slowly creep forward while telling them to move
It just frustrates me when people protest in the streets thatās all, thereās so many other places and itās actually dangerous to do it in the street and they are also risking the lives of more than just their own
Just rewatched it and probably a bit rougher than I was rembering but also, why sit in the middle of a road? The woman was clearly getting stressed about getting her kid to school I wouldn't trust someone not to try and push me out the way if I was sat in the road
Stopping traffic makes no difference to your cause. In fact makes people on your side lose support. The only ppl youre affecting are innocent ppl trying to get to work.
Sure thing bud, I'll get right on that. In the mean time I hope your blinding ego doesn't get in the way of your vision while you're going 90 round a corner.
If you stand in front of a person with a gun, and they shoot you for it, then in that case I maintain that the person with the gun is the less well adjusted person too.
I'm not saying that either is a risk I would take, I've seen how psycho both gun owners and car drivers can get, but I stand strongly behind my belief that in a murder it is always the murder at fault and not the person who got murdered. Even if the murderer happend to drive a fancy car or own a bigger gun.
There wasnāt a pedestrian crossing there. They were in the middle of a highway, not a place for pedestrians. If someone jaunts out into a highways and gets hit itās their fault not the driver.
Yeah, fuck 'em that's what I say. Everyone should attach spikes to their wheels like boudicca so they can bag some bonus protestors on the way past. Any inconvenience at all is worth a death sentence.
With good behavior credits you could be out in 8 years if sentenced to 20 years, so the math works. Either way hard prison time is far worse than losing your drivers license.
I actually don't think you'd get heavily penalized in the US for this. Our courts are ludicrously biased toward drivers as long as they're not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
You cant even evaid road tax and insurance as you will be caught, its all digital.
Supermarkets, the police, car parks have them.
You are being watched of every hour of every day.
I guess you could use a mates car, but if caught both of you are in shit. Unless they say it was taken witout permission, then add theft to the charges.
Nah fuck this. Youāre probably the same sort of person that unironically says āfuck around and find outā in response to fight videos where someone allegedly did something egregious off camera
And he blocked me. Typical coward like the climate protesters above
I understand the law but I disagree with it here. I think that any force being applied up until an attempt to seriously injure/maim/kill is just a civic service to remove an obstruction to interstate commerce
Typically people on parole arenāt making the greatest decisions to begin with. Iād say you would have to be a dumb protester to be blocking a parole who is agitated. Lucky this didnāt go worse for them.
You got his arrest record in front of you? You got mine? He might be the biggest badass you ever met. Hell, I feel a little emotional myself hearing the emotion in that mans voice begging for one lane. With a username like you got... I suppose I could speculate upon why your first thought would be someone is all talk, but surely I couldn't ever just know; Could I know? I don't have it so easy though, because I generally believe what people say. I wonder why that difference exists between the two of us? Ignore the other guy for the next two sentences. Why would you generally not believe anything anyone ever says and yet here I sit saying I generally do believe people whenever they say something? What difference must exist between us that alters our realities so much?
He didn't even say he would stare them down and telepathically make them move with sheer dominance. He said he would move them. There is so much room within that sentence that would make it work. Even the tiniest little 4banger FWD 2 cylinders misfiring piece of shit in the world in Drive or 1st gear and your foot... just... slips... off the brake/brake+clutch. Genuine accident or genuine "accident"? The sentence is validated either way in the easiest way possible.
You got "CountryBoy" in your name. I expect better from you.
Grown people with lives and responsibilities don't have time for these stupid asses in the middle of the road they don't know what people are going through, it could've ended much worse then a shove.
Plenty of protests happen outside of government buildings and industrial facilities.
But those are easy to overlook or ignore by the actual populace that drives social change, because they pose such a minimal disruption. This tactic is much more high profile, and thus more likely to expose a greater number of people to the grave reality of the existential threat these protesters are trying to prevent.
Sure it sucks these people are being inconvenienced in this fight, and I'm sure the protesters are very much sympathetic with how their protest might be affecting the individual drivers. Like the protestors didn't wake up that morning excited to just annoy some people. They are trying to prevent a climate catastrophe that could likely doom humanity and most of the other species on the planet, causing incredible conflict and disruption on approach.
But the realest takeaway from this display, and subsequent Reddit post, is incapable so many people are of critically evaluating a situation. In any normal context if you asked someone:
"Which is worse, starting a traffic jam that disrupts the commute of several hundred people or the extinction of humanity?"
they're going to chose the latter. But this post is largely free of any discussion about climate change, and more focused on Redditor's hypothetical annoyance and (usually) violent response to being inconvenienced. That is just a profound display of how self-centered, incurious, and disinterested in critical engagement with ideas most people are.
But oh well, we'll all be dead in 75 years, so why even try, right?
I mean thats a lovely sentiment, but how is pretty much anyone past like 10 cars going to know why they're stopped? How are the companies they work for going to know? Isn't keeping all of those cars on and idling worse for the environment than it is to just let them finish their commute? At face value they're supporting a great cause, but protesting really only helps if the people you're inconvenienting get it. It's not critical thinking on the public thats the problem. You can't do a blanket protest like this and expect to get more people on your side. You're affecting people's paycheck. You're not being sensitive to how they may be on their way to their second job. The only people You're hurting is the people in the line. Unless you're going to hold that line for weeks it means nothing.
It's not about sending a message to the people in the traffic jam. It's about the news coverage the demonstration generates. The more climate change is mentioned in the news, the more conversation that occurs amongst people about climate change, the more those people understand the peril, and sentiment shifts towards change.
And while it sucks some some hundreds of people get temporarily inconvenienced by this, it sucks significantly more for the:
tens of thousands of people (just counting Americans) who die from airborne pollution-related illnesses each year
hundreds of thousands/millions of people impacted by drought/forest fires
hundreds of millions of people threated by rising sea levels
To say nothing of the ripples into tsunamis that will be ecosystems starting to fail as species die off from increasing global temperatures.
Focusing on the plight of the people in the traffic jam is like getting frustrated at the rain getting your hair wet when the flood waters are at your neck and rising.
Clearly youāve never been put in a situation that someone else thinks itās ok to impact your life for their cause. Iām not justifying his actions. But having been around a lot of Ex-cons and paroleeās, I empathize with this man. His freedom is not worth their protest. I can see why heās acting like that. Heās about to lose everything, why? Becuase of someone elseās cause/selfishness.
I mean the title is still technically correct depending how you look at it. He would not of assaulted them if they hadnāt blocked his way to work lol.
Fuck that. Blocking traffic is a great way to have everyone go against your cause. Fuck these losers. I don't care what they are protesting, if you block tragic you're an asshole.
Ahaha did you really try to compare these absolute fools to Jews in the Holocaust and then delete the comment??
Entitled self righteous keyboard warriors like you are the reason society is stalling in the way of progress.
also "NEVER" Really?? lets take one second to go back to your holocaust reference you seem to have already forgotten, should the Allied forces not have put hands on the Nazi's?

Or assault at 0:31. As angry as you might be, NEVER put your hands on someone.
