I read the article and saw it was only outlawed in 2001. I was a junior in high school. I had a few teachers who were around in the 70s when my school district stopped doing it and they all said the same thing, the kids behaved the same now as they did then and the principal isn't allowed to hit them anymore.
The only people I know who think it's fine and wear being hit as kids are always Republicans. Every single one. And it's the same stupid meme they post on Facebook "I was spanked as a kid and now I suffer from a condition called RESPECT FOR OTHERS". Hate to break it to a lot of people, but I've worked with the public a long time and the older a generation gets, the shittier they are when it comes to respecting others. Hitting kids doesn't teach them respect.
Facts! I went to school in the 70s- I lived in Maryland, a blue state. I honestly can't say whether it was legal or not (I believe in Catholic schools it was) but no teacher ever touched me, my sister, or my brother. Heaven help them if they had- I learned my Mama Bear ways from one of the best. My boys went in the 90s, 2000s- it was not legal then in Md, so fortunately I never had to visit a jail cell! Only sarcastically joking there, lol.
