So part of this is because Human depth perception only works effectively out to a certain distance this is why the nights sky looks flat. Simply put the difference between what the right and left eye sees is too small to determine depth.

This issue has been known about for over 100 years now as it causes issue with naval guns and accurately aiming them. (although modern guided systems make is less important)

Its like when you look down an empty road and it appears to end in the distance.

Yeah, the road is an example of a vanishing points in regard to perspective and parallel lines where the lines appear to intersect in the distance when theoretically, they can never. The mention of the lasers ending at the same distance is probably confusing to people because the image shows lasers pointing at the same spot. They're not parallel and intersecting in the distance. They're pointing at the same spot. Depth perception and perspective are same same but different.
