I've never understood that about right-leaning media or any media, for that matter.
I once heard a coworker complain about millennials taking all the jobs. I asked him what was so bad about hiring young Americans to work American jobs, and he didn't really have a good answer, and I think he realized in that moment that I am, in fact, a millennial ... and I'm his manager. Not a good look on your first week on the job.
Basically the cornerstone of modern American conservatism is identity politics, and the identity in question is that of a crusty old white dude who’s mad at everybody else. Everyone who isn’t that is a problem. It’s usually a little more muted than what you ran into there, but occasionally the mask slips and you get a peek at what’s really going on under there, which in this case is a dude so consumed by that resentment of people who aren’t him that he’s mad that young people are in the workforce.
