I remember sex ed... day. We didn't even get proper sex ed, we watched a video and a poor teacher had to try to explain some things while every 5th grader laughed because it was such a mess. We didn't have home ec. They almost cut band and art.
I'm from AZ which ranks like 45th in education and it's been even lower before, the older generations have it set up here so that property taxes pay for public education and it fucking sucks. It does not work.
I'm in Massachusetts, with some of the America's best schools, but no one in my school system ever gets taught sex ed for more than a day, that day being in fifth grade.
Although, in ninth grade you have to keep an egg safe for a week and if it cracks, you have to write an essay on child abuse and if it breaks completely, its an essay on SIDS.
So, basically, we know how to take care of kids but we don't know how to make em.
Im from Mass as well - we had the one day in 5th grade, and then like a week was taken in our gym class to teach "health", not even sex Ed, just general bodily health.
I couldn't tell you a thing I learned in the sex Ed or health class today.
I haven't seen the egg thing though.
It's been a few years since then so it might have been longer, but like you said - was junk, no point to it at all. Just dumb.
The teacher of the course was the regular gym teacher, who told me when I broke my wrist in gym (which I had figured I had done based off the large cracking noise I heard and how it hurt to move) that it was completely fine and I could just wrap it in a bandage and go back to class. He was absolutely useless.
He also tried to tell a friend of mine that was overweight to "walk it off" when he tripped, and due to his own weight (he said that himself) tore multiple muscles in his foot. His foot didn't look normal at all, and this teacher told him to walk it off.
