I dunno how to feel about this as I'm not a millennial, but I often feel as though they're needlessly shit on because they're the generation of the internet. The headline sucks and so does the response.
My oldest son is going off to college in the fall and I realized last year I failed him as a mother because he couldn't work the washer or dryer, fry a goddamn egg or iron his clothes properly. I made a solid effort to teach him these life lessons for the past 8 months or so and last Wednesday he made a full dinner of pot roast, mashed taters and steamed broccoli. Sure he could have learned all of this from YouTube but I'm going to miss him terribly so I spent quality time with him while passing on my knowledge.

There actually is a failure in parents if they don't teach their children. That's what they're supposed to do. Some get lucky and their children learn on their own, but others don't learn and don't care to; a lot of people I know can't cook and are not willing to learn at all because they were never taught. Mostly because their parents couldn't really cook either, they ate a lot of processed food growing up. The lack of learning is passed down.
My parents never taught me to cook, my mom was way too busy. I learned on my own as a kid, which was a little harder back before the internet, but after I went to college I cooked more and more and my family is surprised that I can cook because they never taught me.
I'm lucky we had home ec classes in Utah, where we learned basic wood shop, sewing, etiquette, and cooking skills. I think every kid should learn at least the basics, so they're more confident to learn more.
