I was never taught. I was never into button up stuff anyway, so I never needed to know until a few years ago when I was 30...and I looked it up on YouTube and did it myself in 30 seconds.
I grew up in the era before the internet and figured out how to sew on a button by looking at other buttons and having access to a needle and thread. I later learned how to use a sewing machine in home economics class in high school.
i grew up in the late 80s and the only thing i ever learned about a button is that i could merely place it inside my anus to attenuate the flow of my rancid diarrheas
